Weekly Chat, Sunday, December 20 2009

Hi folks: Don't forget to check the last pages of the previous chat for links, comments, and all the usual twaddle.  :-)

  • Alan: What a festive scene with the robin in your garden; can't believe how much more snow you've got compared to us.

Sue C: Hope you have a great holiday in Portugal and keep those eyes peeled for ospreys, you never know what you might see.

  • Gary I was told by someone that the difference between a good haircut and a bad one is two weeks. Dibnib if you are at the Tesco's in the retail park Borders might be having a closing down sale as they they are supposed to be stopping trading on the 24th. We had about another inch of snow during the night but the main roads are still clear.  Went on shopping expedition for sister in law this morning as earlier on this  year she slipped on ice and broke her arm so she won't go out when it's slippy. Thanks for all the pictures and hope all keep well during this cold spell and those in the southern hemispere have it pleasantly warm.

  • Wow!  Everyone has been busy, both on & off the blog....  Can't reply to all, but here's a try at it:

Auntie, & Sue C:   Have good holidays, & Merry Christmas to you, too.

Annette:  Think 'bonked' has changed its meaning in much the same way as 'gay' has. Clonked is still allowed!

OG:   Sorry to hear about your allergy- you never know these days. What a shame when it was a present.

AQ:   Loved all your 'Christmas Thoughts'   I probably have some sayings in the back of my mind somewhere, but can't dig them out today!

Re Haircuts:   Husband has always resented paying for haircut, so gets it done really short so it will last a long time- I used to say he looked as if he'd just been let out of HM Prison, but don't need to now as fortunately the fashion has changed to really short, & so he looks quite trendy! (which makes a change, as he's not fashion conscous. concius? can't spell now either).

The roads here are OK when on main routes, but pretty treacherous down the lanes etc. It sounds very bad in other parts of UK, so take care, All.  Went to Sainsburys this am. & have never seen such full trolleys in my life-  I passed one woman who almost shouted, triumphantly "That's it!  we're done!!" to the 3 children clinging on for dear life as she negotiated towards the tills.

thanks to those concerned about my bump on the head- it only hurts when I brush my hair, & Husband says it might put some sense into me, so not much sympathy there.

Alan:  Was pottering in the bedroom this morning, & suddenly saw on the TV that they were mentioning ospreys!   Ran downstairs quickly & recorded the programme, as they were indeed doing a bit about the tagging of chicks in Wales, so will watch it later.  ("Animal 24:7" for those who might be able to find it on the iPlayer or something.)

Phew!   Will relate to you later about our 'free' meal last night, which was delicious.....

  • Merry Xmas to everyone and a very Happy New Year. Hopefully I will be blogging over the next few days so that is just in case I don't. OH is off from tomorrow for a few days so we will be out and about weather and roads permitting

  • thanks, dibnlib,  & all the best to you both, too.  Enjoy your out & about trips, but do take care!

  • GEORGE G. Our nearest Tesco is Tesco extra Inverness and they won't be stopping trading. Think they are probably still one of the busiest in the country. It is only 2 miles from us in a big retail park built round it and has unfortunately made a difference to many of the other businesses around. When we first moved here from Shetland there were some lovely privately owned shops, but one by one they are disappearing. Spent a fortune at Marks and Spencer today, and there are only 2 of us!!!!!!

  • LINDYBIRD     Thanks for your good wishes. Bet Buzz is getting more pressies than the 2 of you. I am sure Dillon is!!!!!           Watched the final Morse today and shed a quiet tear at the end

  • Sorry George' completely misunderstood.  Yes bought a few things in Borders when we first heard. It is sad and Tesco is part to blame, and of course the staff of Starbucks and Game lose their jobs aswell, We tend to go to our local garden centre and Tiso. Better coffee, Better cakes and better value.

  • George, good point!

    Alan, enjoyed the pictures, thanks

Dibnlib, merry christmas but hope to see you on here a bit more

Lindybird, glad th head isn't too bad. Try not brushing your hair, that works fine for me....

what is it about cats. Our barn cat, Pud, has water in a heated bowl but he is choosing to lick a filthy piece of ice

  • Typical cat, Gary:   just plain awkward!
