Hi folks: Don't forget to check the last pages of the previous chat for links, comments, and all the usual twaddle. :-)
Margobird, hope your OH gets on OK, as yes, make sure you stay safe while it is tricky under foot.
OG, yes, those are the dogs I was buying treats for. I am busy, my list never goes down! Hope you and the birds are doing OK. Hope the wet room is working as expected.
Lindybird, hope the chores have magically finnished themselves!! Love the tree.
Caerann, hope you feel better today:)
Sandy, thanks for the pictures of Garten, she is lovely. Forgot what a good looker she is.
Diane, hope you are keeping warm there.
Annette, those trees do sound odd.
Thanks for all the thoughts about the snow but we are well set up for it over here. All the Towns/Villages/States have their own plows so the roads are cleared very quickly. Also , the guys who do landscape work in the summer often plow in the winter so we pay someone to come and plow our driveway to the road. So, although we had that snowfall, within 3 hours of it stoping I could have driven on the roads, down my plowed driveway:) So i can't say it is too bad.
Happy Monday everyone. Like Alan, I am off on a shopping mission later..
OG Goldies dont tend to destroy their cuddly toys they just get a bit squashed after a while.
good morning Caerann, how are you feeling today??
Thanks for the eagle pictures, wonderful to see. You don't get the size when the picture is overhead.
The Chunnel train does seem odd. Going from cold to hot shouldn't make things break. In the UK the famous excuse one year for regular trains not working was "it was the wrong kind of snow"!! I think the phrase you were after, and came so close to, was "knickers in a twist" LOL

Dibnlib, hope you enjoy Morse.
Yes, I hope you got Dillon's permission to remove his toys:) Out of our neighbours 3, only one ALWAYS has a toy in his mouth but not chewed, just hanging there. If you meet him on a walk, you have to find a stick for him to hold or give him a glove or he will grab hold of your clothing. We now have a soft toy in our cars so if we stop to say hello we have a squeeky lobster on hand for him :LOL
Caerann thanks for the pics how we love our birds of prey.
Knickers in a twist is a very apt description re the Channel Tunnel. Heads ought to roll really but at the moment they are blaming the weather, wrong sort of snow. Wonder what sort of snow will make it better.
Margobird
Caerann thanks for the photos and the link. I will add it to my ever increasing list of favourites.
Back from shopping mission to Tesco. Unbelievable amount of veg stacked up in the store. Enough to feed the whole of Africa for a year. It makes me feel uneasy when I see the amount of food people are buying and I wonder how much will get wasted. One woman said to her husband sharply "this trolley is full get me another one". I could not get out of there quick enough.
The weather is slightly milder now and the snow is starting to melt but further snow forecast for tonight followed by ice tomorrow morning.
Alan glad you are back safe and sound from shopping mission. I know how you feel about the amount of food people purchase at this time of the year and I am sure you are right about waste. After all you can only eat so much and the shops do open again, people carry on as though we are under seige. I only buy what I think we will need for the 3 days and top up after Christmas. I sound a miserable so and so don't I but I hate waste especislly when there are so many starving people in the world.
Snow gone from here and has been raining all day but I am dreading the freeze that is supposed to be coming tonight. I will not be venturing out any further than my garden because whatever the weather I have to make sure all my garden birds have plenty to eat and drink. Terrible trying to defrost the bird baths in the morning but my blackbirds seem to like a drink first thing so there I am with a bowl of warm water doing my best for them.
Like you I have an enormous amount stored under favourites, one day it is going to tell me enough is enough. Keep warm and safe.
Apparently, although today is the shortest/longest day, the solstice does not occur until 17:47 pm GMT. Here is a link to a site that not only gives this info, but also features a countdown clock to the event!

Thanks for that Sandy. Your link is missing an l at the end. See http://www.archaeoastronomy.com/countdowns.shtml
Notice that in 2011 the winter solstice occurs on December 22 in the UK.

Sandy - a lovely reminder of Garten Alan - keep the countdown going :)) I'm out for Christmas lunch with a friend today, but fortunately I'm getting a lift. Gary - love the pic of the dogs - so friendly-looking and well-behaved by the look of it! I hope everyone takes care in the ice/snow/wind/heat - whichever applies to you
