I guess that Blue XD is now set to be part of Loch Garten History. He deserves a page by himself.
Do people have data on his exact arrival time and some videos and pictures.
There has been a blog regarding him here on 28 Mar 2012 5:56 PM
There is still confusion as to his identity but he is said to be the long term partner of Green J or otherwise known as S06
So Blue/White XD may be S18 but there are certain problems with that.
S06 and S18 also parented a chick translocated to Rutland viz. T04
I wrote about Green J here on 3 March 2012

Well, maybe just one more ;-)

Taken when he and EJ were scanning the skies for something, which was probably another osprey judging by Richard's blog comment.

Doesn't he just! Mind you, ospreys always look different from the front. I have to admit that when I was doing a shift up there a couple of years ago we actually mistook EJ for another bird once because we saw her beak-on for the first time and missed the ring! <hangs head> There was much excitement in the centre until they reviewed the video footage we'd taken and realised that it was EJ all along.
XD does seem to have quite a lot of brown breast feathers, on the upper part at least. As others have noticed he also has very similar white patches on his wings to EJ.

Unknown said: Having just found this thread, there's some very interesting information. Thanks particularly to Tiger for the reference to 'Life of Ospreys' which I've just looked up. I will now research S18 as it seems likely he is actually blue XD, although it is strange that a reference hasn't been found to his re-ringing. Has anyone contacted Roy Dennis on the issue yet?

Thank you. I totally agree that Blue XD is S18 but think there is an error somewhere. In my my view the most likely explanation is that S18 was caught a second time. Or perhaps even more likely that an error has lain undetected in S18's webpage for about 12 years.
So poor old Blue XD has possibly ended his short Loch Garten career. He will feel somewhat cheated that EJ cut up rough when she knew Odin was around. I am sure that must be against Osprey Rights!
Still it is back for a fourth season of Odin and EJ
Blue XD quietly leaves the Loch Garten stage with somewhat wounded pride.
One last photo of XD taken on the day of his departure.
Loch Garten stats. and All the important links for LG.
Fair play to Blue XD. He came back to his nest and discovered it was severly damage by winds. Did he sulk? No. He picked himself up and had a major go at becoming resident male at the Loch Garten nest. Of course his pages in LG history may not be long but he has added materials to the nest, mated with EJ, skydanced, brought fish, and certainly had lots of people talking. He may go away having been defeated by Odin. That's no disgrace however because to put things simply, Odin is the superior Osprey. Although XD is no weakling either. Sorry to humanise Osprey emotions (if there is such a thing) but I'm sure Odin has some degree of respect for his rival. Farewell and good luck XD. May you and yours have a succesful 2012 season.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Thank you Tiger for starting this thread. I do feel bad for Blue. Is there anyway we can keep up with what's going on with him?
