Weekly Chat, 6th December 2009

See that Annette has been too busy perhaps, to start a new week, so I'm doing the honours. Rather wet in this part of the world this morning, so doing lots of tidying & Christmas preparing stuff.

  • patriciat   Your walk sounds wonderful- would have loved to see the knots wheeling about like that. You live in a beautiful part of the UK.

    Alan:   Hope you enjoy your free mince pie- you must be related in some way to my OH, who will go anywhere for a freebie!  Your Garden Centre sounds lively, is it very big? We have a few here which are big enough to spend a good hour trailing around, plus they have good coffee/cafe/restaurants, with lovely home-made type cakes (try to avert my eyes from the glass counter when queueing up for my cup of tea!

  • WELCOME TO  Ev who joined our osprey Group yesterday. Hope you enjoy yourself on this friendly site, Ev.

  • Sunday all. Another grey and wet day here temp. around 0c.

    Lindybird, thanks for "cogitation" got a new word to my vocabulary

    No amazing wonders of nature to tell, there is only black-hooded crows "singing" in a tree outside my window.

    OG, what a marathon you have had with those workers

    Going to friends house for a small party today to celebrate Finland's Independence Day.

  • Hi Auntie.   That's interesting. Do you do anything special to celebrate your Independence Day? (besides the party, hope you enjoy yourself by the way).

  • Lindybird, thanks for getting us going with the new chat:)

    Alan, enjoy the mince pie. I am like you (and Lindybirds OH) nothing like a freebie, even if it costs more in petrol (gas) to get there!! LOL

    Diane, that weather sounds interesting. You can keep it!  We had snow last night but only a coating so not enough to call a "storm" in my book.

    Annette, good luck with the lights.

    OG, good luck with the wet room this week.

    Looking forword to all the dog pictures, with and without advent calenders:)

    Auntie, have a nice time today. Ashamed to say I don't know who you got Independence from so off to check that out.. Update, it was from the Russian Federation. What a learning experience this site is:)

    Happy Sunday everyone.

  • Afternoon everyone,

    Weather has changed remarkably. It is now sunny and very mild for December.

    Managed to get our free sherry and mince pie at Huntingdon G & L. They were even queueing to get in at 10:30. It was quite an enjoyable shopping experience for once. It is a massive place and you can easily spend a couple of hours wandering round looking at stuff. There was even a pipe band there to welcome us in. It was just like Scotland. We bought a few baubles for the tree, some tinsel and some primroses for the garden. Oh and a really scrummy carrot cake which we ate some of when we got home.

    Happy Independance Day Auntie.

    Just watched video of hummers fledging again. Apparentlt it was a squirrel that startled them:

  • Auntie   Hope you enjoy your independance day party. Thanks Gary I should have guessed it was Russia. Sorry but on a political note I do hope we do not end up having an independance day as Alex Salmond would wish. I am quite happy with things as they are.

    Think this will be worth watching on NAT GEO WILD on 11th Jan at 9.00 pm. It is called "The Last Lioness" and the write up says "one of the most moving wildlife stories you are ever likely to read. It will be a happy ending though you may need the tissues along the way.

    Dave is on holiday for the next 7 days, so here's hoping for some decent weather and good trips and meals out and plenty of photo taking opportunities

    By the way thanks for starting a new blog lindybird I saw we needed one but didn't have time before going fo a Sunday swim

  • Hope nobody minds: I have decided to repeat some of my last message on previous chat!

    Diane – amazing mix of weather you are going to encounter in a short space of time – “batten down the hatches”!  Is it normal to have it like that in Indiana?

    Annette – they even market veggie haggis here – I assume they ask the haggi if they are vegetarians before they fall over!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Thanks, Lindybird for starting the new chat.
    Ev - welcome to Osprey Group!!!
    Hyvää Itsenäisyyspäivää! Auntie - and everybody else in Finland.
    Alan – think I misread that – I thought it was tinsel for the garden!!!
    Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
    Thanks for this - I saw a fantastic irridescent green bird - will definitely look again.  (Also useful to have  a time check for a friend in Ecuador!!!)
