Weekly Chat, Sunday November 29,2009

Evening/morning!. Hope it's a good week for all.  Check the previous blog for the latest adventures of  Emma Peel and Steed plus recent posts from the usual suspects.   :-)

Emma - what a whirl!  Hope daughter's new boyfriend isn't headed back to Afghanistan any time soon.

EDIT: Oh this is interesting, in the following sentence, I typed the name of Germany's controlling political party during the late 30s/early 40s and it was replaced by asterisks!  Just watched a great Netflix DVD - The Rape of Europa - about the pillaging of art by the *** and the subsequent repatriation of (most of) it after the war. Really interesting with footage I'd never seen before. After that, even more leftover Txgiving pie and rerun of Bridget Joans's Diary on telly while perusing latest Xmas catalogs. Have a good Sunday!

  • Aaack. Hummingbird cam is offline!  And Pete's Pond elephants rushed off as soon as I posted their presence!!

AQ: Oh I'm with you on the "green" bags. I use them all the time, but my knuckles would be grazing the ground at the rate they stuff them - so I "bag" them myself.  We should ban one-time use bags here, which have to be taken back to the supermarket for recycling since the city won't accept them.  We want to plant another tree in our front yard, but think the Liquidamber may be a bit on the large side. OMG, can't believe your neighbor!!  How unfriendly - and discouraging - like a black cloud on the block.  Love that Japanese proverb.

English friend coming for tea and cookies this afternoon; just did a quick whip around the kitchen, which is still sparkling.

  • The hummingbirds are so lovely. Mum has just flown off - probably to get some stilts for her feet LOL

  • AQ, that is terrible about the neighbour. Not a lot more you can do, or want to do I think. There is a fine line between looking out for someone and being chummy and too much.

  • Back now.  Mission 66.6% completed - more tomorrow when less tired!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • 8.30 am. Heigh ho, Heigh Ho, it's off to shopping I go. Lovely day - only 23 C, so I won't need esky to keep food cool. Grandkids arriving tomorrow for sleepover while their elders celebrate at work Christmas Do. My computer may be busy on teenage websites rather than birds LOL. Have a great weekend.

  • Just watched a great programme about Scottish Highlands & the wildlife- lovely pics of Sea Eagles, & black throated Divers. The sea eagles raised 2 chicks & they looked very healthy as there were plenty of fish in the loch. Shan't describe it too much in case anyone hasn't seen it yet, but it is a great film.

AQ:   Sounds like your neighbour should meet one of our neighbours: I've described him in the past as 'Grumpy Neighbour'  : he won't even say Good Morning if you speak to him, so we have given up. Some days he goes jogging, and returns in a terrible puff, so shattered that he has to lean on his front gate, gasping! (how can that be good for you?!)    One day, our next door lady asked him if he was alright as he looked so ill, gasping away, & he told her it was no concern of hers!  I'm glad to say, he's not next door to us but across the road so as he goes out in the car most of the rest of the time, we don't have much to do with him.

We use old fashioned type 'shopping bags' now, or re-use many times, the plastic ones given out by the shops (sometimes reluctantly). Never call them sacks here, sacks are as AQ says, for Santa or the man who delivers coal. Bought what looked like a useful string bag, remembered my mother having one years & years ago, as a handy thing to carry, but Oh Dear! forgot that small things try to escape, & the square packages jab you in the leg as you walk along.

Wrapping parcels for Christmas now, as some have to be posted soon: will be mean & include the Christmas cards in the parcel too. Not feeling Christmassy yet though, even though there are a few Christmas lights winking away further up the road from us. Going to a Christmas Brass Band Concert tomorrow, in a Village Hall a few miles away, so expect to feel more seasonal then.

  • AQ:   Pleased to hear you got chance to see Joanna Lumleys northern lights- isn't it great?

  • Welcome back OG. Look forward to the full briefing tomorrow!

AQ, enjoy the shopping and that is about the perfect temp"

Lindybird, have you got some christmas music on while you wrap? That may get you in the mood. The brass band definately will:)

  • Trying to give Dog his supper, wrap presents, find some letters, retune TV to political prog., so will have to sign off now as too many plates in the air to keep up!  Will let you know how the band sounded (its one I've not heard before so looking forward to hearing them & am promised some mulled wine too, yum!). Bye!
