Weekly Chat, Sunday November 29,2009

Evening/morning!. Hope it's a good week for all.  Check the previous blog for the latest adventures of  Emma Peel and Steed plus recent posts from the usual suspects.   :-)

Emma - what a whirl!  Hope daughter's new boyfriend isn't headed back to Afghanistan any time soon.

EDIT: Oh this is interesting, in the following sentence, I typed the name of Germany's controlling political party during the late 30s/early 40s and it was replaced by asterisks!  Just watched a great Netflix DVD - The Rape of Europa - about the pillaging of art by the *** and the subsequent repatriation of (most of) it after the war. Really interesting with footage I'd never seen before. After that, even more leftover Txgiving pie and rerun of Bridget Joans's Diary on telly while perusing latest Xmas catalogs. Have a good Sunday!

  • Desperately trying to prod my ageing brain to remember the name of the programme with the talking animals- will come back later with the answer, I hope.

  • lindybird hope you can come up with the name of that programme. It was a bit like an updated animal  magic. Know what you mean about pet pressies. I bought Dillon a cuddly bunny when I already curse about the number of toys I keep having to tidy up

  • Will be found flat out on the floor with a broken neck one day, having tripped over one of his toys yet again! Its worse than whenthe boys were small, and there were bits of lego everywhere.  Have spent five minutes looking thru some old Saturday colour supplements where they print the TV progs in desperation to find the name of that thing, -- it was very funny, wasn't it??!

  • dibnlib and Lindybird: Was the TV program Walk on the Wild Side? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walk_on_the_Wild_Side_(TV_series)

I loved that show, too. It was on briefly over here, but I haven't seen any episodes lately. The animal footage was great!

  • Morning/evening all. Cloudy here today with what passes for rain due the next few days.

Diane: Re the hummingbirds, haven't seen the rose bush shake that hard before but did anyone hear a sort of splash and see something go from the lower right to the upper middle of the screen in the minute before they took off? Didn't notice the rest of the plants in the garden moving....    Glad things are back to "normal" with you.  Wattle! Good to see you - missed you. Fab shot of the moon.  Alan: Let us know if you make that tree record.  jsb: I wouldn't recognise a haggis if it landed on my head! But will try the game anyway .  Aggressive haggii taking prisoners??? That sounds like that BBC "news" clip of eons ago that showed Italians harvesting spaghetti from trees (shown on April 1 one year).  :-)   Caerann: Love rocks too! Have a lovely time.   Lindybird: Watch out or you'll end up rainbow colored like Margobird!

Off to start the day. Take care all.

  • Diane:   Thank you so much!! I'm sure that must have been the title- its been driving me crazy, I nearly forgot a vital ingredient in the dinner, as I was cogitating (great word isnt it?) whilst cooking.

Alan:  Well done, planting your tree.  We don't have a inch of space for another one, but do have a baby Ash tree in a pot which has put itself there & I intend to go & plant it in the hedgerow in nearby fields soon, when we have the time. Suppose that won't count tho as not done today- darn it as our American friends might say.

Annette:    Walk carefully around our house as traps everywhere!  Don't fancy being rainbowed!!

Must get back to important things like cooking now, will look in tomorrow. Happy Weekend, everyone!!!!

  • Trip away Tues-Thurs was mostly successful – spent time with family and delivered their parcels, collected the commissioned magazine racks from cabinet makers (and couldn’t resist ordering a pair of carver chairs!!!) but failed to go to Darlington Christmas Market – much too wet for outdoors.  A66 was closed yet again, so had to come home round by A68 and A69.

AQ – hope you had a great time with the Grandkids.

Bags/Sacks – very few shops in the UK use the big paper sacks (as I would call them) that are seen in the US.  They still give out far too many single-use plastic carrier bags which litter the countryside (and towns), endanger wildlife and “cost the earth” to produce.  We refuse them and use a mix of shopping bags

Humming Birdswow!  Thanks Diane for link to the video of fledging! Re “Flitting” - in Scotland flitting is moving house – guess that was very appropriate for the hummers fledging – “now you see them – now you don’t”!

Dibnlib – still await photo of Dillon with his advent calendar – BTW, saw son here last week, there this week and still forgot the advent calendar – so have had to post it belatedly!

Diane – pleased to hear the Swine flu episode is over, and hope you and Dad will stay well now.  Interesting about the blue moons – hard to get my head around the 31st December/1st January difference!

Wattle (and AQ) – so pleased your weather temperatures are more comfortable for all the rushing around for Christmas.  Love your full moon photo!

Re: Haggi - Did you know that haggi have their right legs shorter than their left, so they can run clockwise round the mountains – but if you chase them anticlockwise they fall over and can be caught more easily?

Well, that's me caught up now! was too busy yesterday - and have even tackled ironing today!!!  Enjoyed all the posts - too many to mention all individually.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • diane  think you are right with "walk on the wild side" do hope they show it again as i only saw 1 or 2 of the programmes.

OG Dave took a couple of photos of Dillon with advent calender today so will get them on a blog soon.Glad you enjoyed your days away

see you all tomorrow  Good night, sleep tight

  • OG, what do you do when you meet mutant haggi which have left legs shorter than right?  Can't get people here to believe me - they think haggi come prepared for the table!  BTW had a lovely walk on the Tide Bank today.  Incredibly high tide and knots doing aerobatic stunts which would have had Simon King and George Buchanan ecstatic and have turned the Red Arrows green with envy!  I can thoroughly recommend Strangford Lough for winter bird watching.

Will post pics of another dog soon.

  • I know it's late for this forum, but must just say thanks to Diane for the hummingbird flit. Haven't been on for two days and they've gone! There is a note now to say that it was a squirrel in the bottom right of the picture, mum was chasing and that made them go, squirrel exits top right at 2:54.

Alan, we planted two little oak trees today at 10.30 and emailed in to Autumnwatch too, OH didn't remember to get a free tree but had these sitting in pots waiting to get a bit bigger before he put them in.

    Lovely moonset, Wattle!
