Weekly Chat, Sunday November 29,2009

Evening/morning!. Hope it's a good week for all.  Check the previous blog for the latest adventures of  Emma Peel and Steed plus recent posts from the usual suspects.   :-)

Emma - what a whirl!  Hope daughter's new boyfriend isn't headed back to Afghanistan any time soon.

EDIT: Oh this is interesting, in the following sentence, I typed the name of Germany's controlling political party during the late 30s/early 40s and it was replaced by asterisks!  Just watched a great Netflix DVD - The Rape of Europa - about the pillaging of art by the *** and the subsequent repatriation of (most of) it after the war. Really interesting with footage I'd never seen before. After that, even more leftover Txgiving pie and rerun of Bridget Joans's Diary on telly while perusing latest Xmas catalogs. Have a good Sunday!

  • Lindybird : Alice has amended Richards blog at the beginning. Rothes has returned to the Bijagos Islands.

    FAB

  • That hummingbird on the edge has now wedged back in to the nest, not much room though!

    Terry in Cumbria

  • Happy Birthday Gary and thanks  to everyone  for the St Andrews Day good wishes (from a Scot living in Scotland). Glad you had a good few days away  Margobird.

We lived in furnished, rented RAF housing for the first 4 years of getting married so this enabled us to save like crazy for the furniture we really wanted, some of which we have 30 years later.

Annette  Mum lives in a small village where people look out for each other and she has a very good neighbour. The village shop is opposite and if she or Pat (the neighbour) didn't collect her daily paper and morning roll someone would be over to check PDQ

Saw the pandas on  tv AQ , Aren't they magnificent. Hope you get to see them soon.

Today I swam just 1/2 mile and had a steam. This afternoon I spent 2 hours working as a volunteer at a centre for people with learning difficulties - teaching them literacy skills - so i am feeling very noble. no, not really, it works both ways. Dillon has had his afternoon walk and as Dave is working the rest of the day is my own to slob out. now what can treat myself to for supper?

  • Thank you for your good wished Annette, Margobird and Lindybird. Not too late at all as it's still only 1pm ish here. We went out for a meal last night which was very nice so evening in tonight

Have put up the outside christmas lights this AM before the rain came.

  • Thanks Didnlib. Your swimming is going very well then?

Good for you on the volunteering. Enjoy the treat you have for supper:)

  • Have been watching the hummingbirds: they made me laugh out loud, they are so squashed in that nest, its like a comedy turn.

Are you going to switch on your Christmas lights, then Gary?  or are they just in place, ready for lighting up later?

  • How do those baby humming birds cope in that tiny nest?

  • Just catching up on the last four days of news on here, so thanks for all that. Must just add, A very Happy Birthday to Gary. Will carry on reading now.

  • Gary – phone call this morning to say electrician would be late.  Tiler arrived late afternoon but had to wait for sparky to do his bit.  It worked this time, so then the tiler did his job!  Have to tell son about  “that song” – it’s an honour thing!!!  Happy Birthday (belatedly) from me too – how did Alan know???

Annette – did you really see the gift certificate in the desk or did you dream it?!!!  Hope it will turn up soon.

For St Andrew’s Day, intended to have haggis, but had some Saturday night on our way home, so postponed it and ate a meat pie with the neeps and tatties – it was Galloway beef, so I guess that counts!

Margobird – so pleased you enjoyed Cornwall and stayed upright too!  Sounds like it has invigorated you to begin preparations for Christmas.

Volunteering – been doing stuff here today – forwarding a charity newsletter to snail-mail recipients and then proof-reading/editing our Minister’s Christmas letter and dates newssheet ready for OH to print copies at the weekend.

Signing off for a few days again – visiting and delivering Christmas presents to off-spring in County Durham - daughter #1, granddaughters and unemployed son who stays with them (son-in-law is still working down south).  Also collecting our Christmas presents to ourselves from cabinet maker and hoping to visit Darlington Christmas Market.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
