Weekly Soiree Sunday November 22nd

Starting things off this week with a reminder to check the last of the posts for the week of the 15th so you don't miss any of the excellent information being shared. I hope this week we'll have check-ins from Cirrus, George G and some others who have been quiet but to whom I'm sure we all send our good wishes.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

  • dibnlib hi.

My computer is playing tricks, so unless you are also david willington, I apologise for replying to the wrong person about my canine pack!   By the way, lucky you to live within striking distance of LG.  We holiday in Strathspey at least once every year and I'd love to live there.

  • OG, sorry about the lack of action there today, here's hoping you are over run with people tomorrow:)

Alan, I too enjoyed your quip! Thanks for the info about the blog.

Caerann, hope you recover in time. Resting and napping sounds a good plan, and (as my mum tells me), plenty of Vit C!!

Enjoyed the rest of the chat but can't add anything else.

  • Hello.  1st of all,  welcome to tindra who has just joined the LG Ospreys group, hope you enjoy yourself here, as we all do!

Wet here today, and felt cold & damp, although I don't think the temperatures were particularly low really. It stopped my plan of tidying in the garden, and drove me into the house to get started on the Dreaded Christmas Card List, which each year has to be amended before I actually start on the addressing & writing of cards- which once I get started, I quite like doing as it makes me think about each set of people who I might not have seen this year but who we keep in touch with for one reason or another. Like Wattle, I make some of my cards & have to be strict with myself about how many I do, so 'special people' get a more complicated version, whilst some get a simple but I hope effective one, & some only get a charity card.

Dog managed to get completely covered in green slime & wet mud in muddy pond in the park yesterday, so had to be encouraged to jump into the lake to get it all off- smell of wet dog in the house for rest of the day....

AQ:  Loved the ducklings story, & had a good mental picture of them all hopping along that drain! Happy ending.

Annette;  Sorry to hear about the horse, it must be sad when they can't be ridden any more but I'm sure your daughter still gives lots of love. Thought of you on Saturday when we returned from our sons home in pouring rain on the motorway, & had to pass a lot of large trucks/lorries, all spewing spray so badly I was quite frightened, and glad that Husband was manfully doing the driving; especially as it went dark on the way and visibility got worse & worse.

Gary:  Hope your OH has recovered from her migraine now, they are grim, I know.

OG:  One day you may find that ta dah!  your wetroom is all finished. Hope that day comes soon for you. I do know that when these projects are started, it never seems to be the things which you worried about which go wrong: perversely, it's usually something you never thought of at all which crops up to annoy.

Caerann:  Sorry to hear you're ' under the weather' - get yourself well, and hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving trip to your sister. Tell us all about it later, please.

Finally, must add my plea to  Cirrus - if you're out there, we miss you! Hope you are OK.

  • Thanks Lindybird, OH has recovered. She has some pills she gets on prescription which work very well for her. Sorry if you suffer. Hope Dog isn't so green now and just a little smelly!:) You are good making cards. We do it the easy way and buy them!

  • Evening all  Thanks Alan for the new blog notice - good indeed to know all is well

GeorgeG: Problems with contractors are like H1N1 - knows no borders.

patriciat :  Hope you and the mysterious David got your wires uncrossed.  Four border collies? How nice - good luck with the Saturday competition.

Lindybird: Hope the Dreaded Christmas Card list wasn't too hard and that wet dog smell has abated. We don't get rain that often, but at the beginning of the rainy season driving is especially dangerous (apart from the fact that most Californians have no idea how to drive in bad weather!) because the roads are coated with vehicle exhaust and they become very slick. And I'll echo your greetings to Cirrus and may I add Tish and Maureen too?

  • IFC (Independent Film Channel) has started running a lot of the old Monty Python programs. Total hoot!

  • Morning all 9.15am here. Don`t know what have happened to weather, it has been warm (for November) for days, temps near plus 10C and raining every day.

Careann, Kiitos! (=thank you) sorry to say I didn`t figure out the rest of that sentence... Hope you recover soon.

Now I must take Ziggy Stardust (my tiny car) to the town and do some shopping. Have a good day everyone!

  • Dry here this morning!  Terrible pics on the News progs about the poor people who now have  to clear up the mess after the floods up north, and its raining there again today. My heart goes out to them.

(Gary, no I don't get migraines but have known friends who do, & know how debilitating it can be. Glad your OH is feeling better)

Thanks, auntie, great pic in my head of you zooming around in Ziggy!!

  • Annette, Thanks for confirming that the 'Listen Live' works for UK, BBC radio, webcasts in the US. Therefore, when something of interest is scheduled, whether osprey related, or something else, we can post the details in advance for you. We can give it a trial, to see if there is a demand from readers. Note to any 'guests' on this blog, why not register and join us, if you are interested? We would make you welcome and your comments be appreciated I am sure.

Going back to Cumbria, the clear up is under way and the long term damage being assessed, but, there is concern growing as the rain has started again and is likely to be heavy over the area, with 100mm or 4 inches forecast over the fells above the towns and that will feed the rivers directly, as the ground is saturated. The extent of further flooding is difficult to predict, but some further damage may occur. The infrastructure of the region is of major concern, but, one bright spot is that, in the town of Seaton is to have a new railway station at the weekend. It brought a lump to my throat, to hear the spokesman say that it would help the local people, so that they could use the train as tickets are on sale on the train and all they need are temporary platforms to the north of the town. There is no mention of this yet on Google, so there is no link to post yet.  It just goes to show what can be achieved by adopting a 'can do' attitude, by all concerned.

  • Morning all and welcome to tindra our 266th member. You will find this a very friendly and helpful group with a good sense of humour.

Weather here on TI today is dreich. That is the only word I could think of to describe it. It is not raining at the moment but it has been and the ground is wet. I just hope that there is no more flooding in Cumbria as they are due another 4 ins on top of saturated ground.

Nothing major planned for today. We will see what evolves. Most of our Christmas cards have been written just a few stragglers that we will remember at the last minute.
