Weekly Soiree Sunday November 22nd

Starting things off this week with a reminder to check the last of the posts for the week of the 15th so you don't miss any of the excellent information being shared. I hope this week we'll have check-ins from Cirrus, George G and some others who have been quiet but to whom I'm sure we all send our good wishes.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

  • Has anyone seen the upside down trees? The decorations are supposed to hang better. Saw one in Notcutts Garden Centre.

  • never seen one of those Alan, sounds a bit strange.

Just looked on line and not for me I'm afraid.

  • Alan - how do you keep them watered? LOL

    Terry in Cumbria

  • Just lost what I typed. Bother, bother, bother. This week I have been reading quickly and not posting. With the temps dropping to around 30 C I've been catching up on neglected tasks. Such a shock to the system today - had to find warmer clothes - only 14 C at 9 am. Last night we had heavy rain, great for the garden. Windy & showery today.

Alan - Thank you for the hummingbird link. Tho' it took me a while to find the right "our" time to look. First peek and there was mother feeding such fat little bundles. I haven't yet seen anything happening on carcass-cam yet. So many sites to check, so little time LOL

Great fuss in local media as the 2 pandas arrive from China for their 10 year stay at Adelaide Zoo this morning. A planned procession from airport (one would only see the transport truck !!!!! and some fake pandas & the Xmas pageant panda float) and a reception in the city Mall (entertainment, face-painting & other exciting[?] stuff) has been somewhat marred by the late arrival of the plane. Of course the pandas are not invited to the reception. They are going straight to their newly-built $8 million accommodation. First viewing 2 weeks' time. Now that's some jetlag.

  • Evening everyone:  Upside down trees? I've heard of upside down cake.....   Nice cloudy day here and windy this evening - we may even get a splattering of rain!  Today (the Friday after Thanksgiving) was the official start of the Christmas season with stores opening ridiculously early and hoards of mad shoppers who'd been waiting outside all night rushing in to grab bargains.  I was not among them. But must get organized this weekend. I was sorting through my husband's desk looking for stamps and found a gift certificate I'd given him in 1998 - yes! - 11 years ago! - for either a birthday or Christmas!  I called the store (Nordstroms) and found it's still valid, so we're going downtown Sunday and I've threatened to spend it all on me if he doesn't find anything for him. Honestly!  In the meantime, I'm off to investigate the leftover pie situation....

  • Annette - 11 years. I think after that time the gift should revert to the donor LOL. You are lucky they will honour it. Last Xmas a CD/DVD store went into receivership here and refused to pay out on gift vouchers. Not one I had patronised, but it made me think it just may be wiser to give the kids cash rather than a voucher. Besides they are setting up homes and may prefer a hardware store to a CD/DVD. Been raining on and off. Quite windy and from non-usual direction, so they are using the short runway at the airport, hence extra power, extra noise and I am noticing the planes this afternoon.

  • Annette, I could come and help you if you like??? I'm not a shopper but I could spend some serious money in Nordstrom. Not many stores where you have a nice man playing the piano while you shop. Hope hubby finds something even if it's the truffles...........

AQ, sounds great about the pandas, there is something about them. Good point about the vouchers, I think that happened in the UK last year as well. Sorry about the extra noise.

Windy but dry here, off to give the horses their breakfast. Happy Saturday everyone.

  • Afternoon All,

Just got back from Huntingdon Garden & Leisure where there is a countdown clock to Christmas. Dont tell anyone but there are 26 days to go. If anyone wants to know where Santa is he is at H. G&L. No upside down trees there but everything else you could possibly want for Christmas. Next week there are free glasses of sherry and free mince pies.  Being Scottish I will be queuing up waiting for the doors to open.

Weather is more like winter today after all those days with temps above normal it is a bit of a shock to the system.

    Medium level cloud , Temp 5.8c , Wind W 15mph , Visibility 50kms , Pressure 992hPa rising.

  • I'm not Scottish Alan but I'd be next in line with you!! LOL

26 days, wow, that brings it home a bit.
