Weekly Soiree Sunday November 22nd

Starting things off this week with a reminder to check the last of the posts for the week of the 15th so you don't miss any of the excellent information being shared. I hope this week we'll have check-ins from Cirrus, George G and some others who have been quiet but to whom I'm sure we all send our good wishes.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Aren't you well-organised!  I can't even find part of my list - will probably have to try to prepare a new one!  Can't quite believe it's just a month away and I haven't yet written to Santa Claus.

  • original goldfinch just catching up on all the posts.  You were rght about the weather yesterday.  We had rain most of the day but at lunchtime it was at its worst.  I have never seen rain like it and it was also accompanied by very high winds.  It was quite frightening for about an hour.  My patio ended up about 4 inches deep in water, the toilet backed up and the drains could not cope with the deluge.  It made me realise how bad it must have been in Cumbria because they had rain like that for a day and a half.   It seems that they are getting very heavy rain again today.  I feel so sorry for them all.  Homes and businesses wrecked and it will take months and months to sort things out.  I don't know how I would cope in the same situation.  I admire them so much for the eay a lot of them are coping.  It crossed my mind that it would be good if some sort of fund could be set up for them to help.  I would be more than willing to donate.

Weather not so wild today althought it is still quite windy.  I am hoping things will calm down for our trip to Cornwall for 3 days on Thursday.  Not keen on travelling when it is wet and windy.

I hasten to add I did not venture out while it was this bad.   I couldn't believe my eyes when it eased because all the sparrows had a bath, I would have thought they had had enough of being wet.  They never fail to amaze me with their resilience to our weather.  I also have 2 squirrels who visit regularly 2 or 3 times a day and they were not going to be put off by the weather, lot os burying of nuts going on.

    Have a good day.

  • Morning Alan and my welcome to tindra as well.

We had the most awful weather here yesterday I have never seen rain like we had for about an hour at lunchtime acccompanies by very high winds.  I found it quite unsettling especially when my paito was flooded to about 4 inches and the toilet started backing up as the drains could not cope with the volume of rain.  Our garage was flooded as well but no damage done.  Luckily it did ease somewhat later and the water started to run away.  It made me reaslise how bad it must have been in Cumbria as they had that torrential rain for a day and a half and those poor folks will be suffering for months to come until they can get back into their homes and businesses.

I must say you are very organised I have done very little towards Christmas.  Had I not had such a bad fall I would probably have been just about done but when I get back from Cornwall I am going to have to throw myself into it big time.  Have a good day.

  • Monring Lindybird like you my heart really goes out to all those people who have been flooded out.  The pictures show just how much damage has been done and it will be such a long time before things are sorted out for them.  What a dreadful time of the year for this to happen with Christmas just around the corner.  As you say they have heavy rain again today so that will probably cause more flooding.

  • Morning auntie your weather sounds a bit strange as well.  The weather in the UK at the moment is terrible with all the rain that has caused so much flooding and distress for the poor people of Cumbria.

Hope you have a good shopping trip.

  • Gary glad OH has recovered.  My late Mum suffered and my youngest sister suffer terribly with migraines.  She gets them so bad she has to have injections for the paid.  It really is not a nice thing to suffer from.

  • patriciat look forward to seeing some pics of the dogs.

  • Hi Margobird:   Heard last night that there is such a thing as the Cumbria Relief Fund -- if you put those words into Google, you get several links telling about it, they have raised quite a lot of money already but of course will need lots as there are so many poor souls affected.  The Furness Building Society seem to be in charge of the fund, so I will be looking into it, with a view of sending a little something to help.

Glad to hear you have stayed indoors in this bad weather, stay safe.

  • morning all. Enjoyed catching up but not much to add really so won't.

Terrible to hear about the floods and also more very heavy rain today. Those poor people. It seems to have brought out the best in people which is nice.

Margobird, that sounds bad with your sister, needing injections:(

Auntie, great name and hope Ziggy behaved himself.

Run around day planned here so must crack on. Have good Tuesday's everyone.
