Weekly Chat, Sunday November 15, 2009

Hallo folks. Not much action yesterday afternoon on last week's chat, though SueC quoted a poem by the Wolof fishermen of Senegal about ospreys, which I found reassuring.

  • Morning, All:   Hope all in UK are safe and dry.  Glad to hear that the temps are going down at last in Aussie.

Just getting in the car to brave the motorway journey south, to visit married son & wife. Dog very excited as he loves visiting.  Just came in to post, to alert Alan, as last night on the stupendous Children in Need Night programme, they showed a video/dvd which is now going to be on sale, of a compilation of childrens characters from TV over the years, (which was organised by our very funny Peter Kay) - and it featured many characters from Thunderbirds! including Lady P, the car and chauffer, etc. so I got very excited! (a bit sad, really at my age, but then my family are used to me...) There is now talk of reproducing the advertising poster so that children can put it up in their rooms, which seems like a good idea, as it includes many many much loved cartoon and animation characters from TV.

Anyway, to stop rambling, the whole night raised over 20.3 Million pounds, which is not bad in a recession.  Last years total on the night was 21 million, and eventually the grand total later in the year raised over 38 Million, so they are hoping for a similar result. Well done, the British Public.

    Have a Good Day All!

  • dibnlib leaving for Cornwall next Thursday for 3 days and really hopng for better weather than is forecast for this weekend but whatever we will enjoy our short break.

Just want to say thanks to all for the various links,  so much to look at but not a lot of time this weekend.  Looking forward to the weekly update on Monday.

OG, poor you, must be really p...d off with those workers

Annette, I think that those double floor miniature cottages are in a camping area.

  • Congrats to all those who donated/raised money for CIN. Lindybird, I would have got excited about that DVD. In fact, I am going to have to buy it! As it stars Alan, I can tell everyone I know him......

Have a great day with Son, DIL and dog:)

Auntie, glad you enjoyed Tiny christmas. We used to do our work things a little nearer to christmas. Having said that, one of the radio stations here is now playing ONLY christmas music.

    Happy Saturday everyone.

  • hi annette

yip, of  course it is a traditional knotted hanky. don't think he is quite so smug now that the weather has taken a turn for the worse!!!!!. love the sound of that catalogue you mentioned, esp the aliens carrying off a garden gnome. Wonder if there is a website i can log onto

  • Afternoon All,

Thanks to everyone who saw me on the CIN DVD. Spread the word that it is a must for Christmas.

Today we went on a Shopping Recce to Stamford. A Recce is like a Mission but without any Shopping. It was so mild that people were sitting outside street cafes in November?

Later we went to Elton Walled Garden Centre and had some lunch. On the way home we stopped at Notcutts Garden Centre to pick up our free tree. We chose a Rowan. This link will explain:

    Weather : Cloudy , Temp 15.7c , Humidity 84% , Dew Point 13.0c , Pressure 1008hPa falling.

  • Wow, both of those happenings are really awesome Alan!

Hello to everyone and Happy Saturday.     =O)

  • Morning all. Was looking at photos of the receding waters on the BBC website and at all the debris left behind; just a horrible mess. Poor people lugging their sodden furniture out into the street....  We were supposed to get a tiny bit of rain yesterday but all I saw was a hint of a cloud to the north.

Lindybird: Also read about the CIN project on the BBC website. That is a great response during bad economic times.

Alan:  Another worthy cause with the free tree folks; we have similar programs here from time to time. Congrats on the DVD - it's at the top of my Christmas list!  :-)

dibnlib: The catalog is online at thewirelesscatalog.com.  Abduction of garden gnome by aliens is under Home and Garden; Garden Decor.

Off to get organized. Take care everybody.

  • Alan, lucky you to be able to sit outside!  I spent the morning out in a field, in pouring rain and high wind, taking part in a Dog Agility competition!  How mad can we get?  Dog did very well before it had to be called off as we were wading through lakes!

  • On the 'Osprey World' forum I have just posted a link to some Autumnwatch video clips, which I hope will be viewable outside the UK. I am not sure how long they have been there, or, how long they will remain there.

Also they let slip, on the last programme that a Christmas Special is being considered, which may be between Christmas and New Year. Whether it will be a Winterwatch or made up of existing material, is not being stated at the present.
