Weekly Chat, Sunday November 15, 2009

Hallo folks. Not much action yesterday afternoon on last week's chat, though SueC quoted a poem by the Wolof fishermen of Senegal about ospreys, which I found reassuring.

  • Margobird, I too enjoy visiting places "out of season" Sometimes it is the best time of year, quiet etc, even if the weather can be against you. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.

  • OG, sounds like the weather is terrible there. Hope you and everyone else stays safe and dry.

  • original goldfinch  have been watching the news and the weather looks just awful for you.  Hope you don't get flooded.  Will be thinkng of you.

  • Morning everyone: The UK weather looks awful; hope anyone in the affected areas doesn't get flooded out or blown away.

OG: All these mobility options sounds fascinating. Sounds smart to cancel that appointment given the conditions.

Diane: Rain would be good (but in moderation).

Wattle: Heard a few muffled shouts as I was working in the garden yesterday but thought it was the neighbors!  :-)    Are the power surges due to the heat and everyone running the a/c? When it gets really hot here they tell us to hold off on running appliances until late in the evening to avoid brown/black-outs.

Alan: Glad to know that TI is still operating; don't here enough about it!  If Gary has had E and H out (which he won't admit to), you may be getting his leaves at some point (for forwarding to Auntie of course).

Margobird: Maybe soccer shoes with cleats for the wet garden? And don't forget the helium balloons. I think off-season is a good time to visit some places; no crowds. As you say, as long as it's not too cold or too wet....

Off to start the day. Whereever you are, hope it's a tolerable day weather-wise.

  • OK Annette, at the risk of ridicule I admit to using Ernest a lot recently:)))) However almost all the trees are bare now and the garden is clear so appart for some "stragglers" I am done......

Hope you have a good day.

  • Gary: Your secret is safe with us!  :-)

  • Hi, all. I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with everyone in the UK who is under the threat of flooding and bad weather today. I hope that all of you stay safe and that your properties sustain no damage!!! I'll send good energy to you!!!

Margobird: I wish I could send you a pair of Indiana farm boots with great big ol' lug soles that bite deep into the dirt/mud and keep you balanced and stable. They provide great traction. Take care. I hope you enjoy the lovely trip you have planned.

Gary: Thank you for your concern! Things are improving here a bit.

Hope everyone has a happy, healthy, productive evening/day!!!

  • Oh, and stay cool, Wattle and aquilareen!!!  Wow, that's a heat wave.

OG: wish I could get my husband to use a mobility scooter!  He's virtually unable to walk, falls quite a lot, even in the house.  Could yours be used by someone with only use of 1 hand!

I have use of two hands but often use only one hand!  Supposed to use RH forward, LH back, but can hook RH thumb round to reverse.  But I think there are adaptations available for one- handed users.  Make sure he gets a four-wheeled model for balance - three wheelers look nifty and are lighter to lift in and out of car, but are less robust and for someone who falls and has balance impaired by lack of use in second arm/hand, four wheels are a necessity.  (There are also some five wheel models on the market, but haven't any experience of them).  Get some advice, possibly from Motability even if you can't use one of their schemes (they do scooters as alternative to cars), and Good Luck!

Thanks so much OG.  We have a store in a nearby town which does aids to living, so I'll onsult them, now that I know a little bit!

  • Diane in Indiana I think I could do with a pair of those boots to keep me upright.  Really looking forward to our trip to North Cornwall next week.  Can't expect brilliant weather at this time of the year but it it was dry that would be fine by me.  We are expecting heavy rain in the South of England overnight but nowhere near as heavy as they are getting in Northern England and Scotland.  It looks teerible up there and I feel so sorry for the people who have been flooded out and in many case not for the first time.

Glad things are improving a bit for you, take care.
