Hallo folks. Not much action yesterday afternoon on last week's chat, though SueC quoted a poem by the Wolof fishermen of Senegal about ospreys, which I found reassuring.
Hi, Annette! I could send you rain. It has been raining here for a week and more is predicted. Aquilareen and Caerann: I just loved the owl pictures. Wonderful! AQ: I don't know how you stand that heat. We usually have a few days of extreme heat in the summer, and I get cranky really fast. Take care of yourself. Drink lots of water.
Hi everybody! It's 8.00 pm here and still 35 degrees. AQ's weather has moved further east and is with us in earnest now. We had 41 degrees today and expect the same or higher tomorrow. We were supposed to be going to a night photographic shoot with our camera club about now, but the heat would maek it a chore instead of a pleasure, so we all mutually called it off!
The heat has 'cooked' the battery in my external backup powe supply, so until I can find another battery, I'm running the computer and all its bits off a series of 3 surge protected power boards. they won't help me with the sudden drops in power we often experience here, so I'm not on for long at the moment. I've been reading my notifications to keep up with you all, and shouting responses, but I guess you haven't heard any of them, have you? AQ, I hope you had a bit of respite from the heat today.
Cheers, Jan.
Smiles, Jan.
Good Morning Alan I watched this video yesterday afternoon, wonderful close ups of magnificent birds.
Margobird
'Morning All. auntie: I too loved the saying about the 2 dusks facing each other- have you any more like that? Hope you're keeping warm there.
OG: Sorry to hear about your cleaner problems, these things are sent to try us, as they say. At least it sounds like you have a lovely OH there, he's doing a great job. Hope you have a successful day ordering your new mobility chariot! They have a lot of new features these days, don't they, a bit like buying a new car, I should think. Let us know how you get on.
Alan: Thanks for the link to the Buzzard cam- I've just been watching it. They were indeed very wary wern't they, they seemed to know something was a just a bit too good to be true- & how they put up their wings, as if to scare away any unseen dangers! Interesting to see their behaviour up close, as we have a resident pair near to us, but can never catch them on camera or bins, near enough. Will watch the fox cam later when I find the time.
Loved the owl photos, everyone. Hope everyone in UK is ok in these bad floods; what weather we're having! Thinking hard about cooler temps for you in Australia, Wattle & AQ, don't know how you cope.
Off to do boring housework & even more boring phone calls to be made: Looking forward to later today when going to cinema with Extravagent Friend, to see film about Charles Darwin, called 'Creation'. Will make comments on it tomorrow! Have a Good Day, Everyone.
ps Hi, Margobird! See you are online. Hope you are recovering a bit from your aches, these things take longer as we get older, I find :-( At least its not so cold today, so I'm still hoping we can put off the real winter weather for a bit longer. Have a good day.

New vehicle is a car! I use the whole of my disabled living allowance (and a bit more) to have a car of my choice provided under the Motability scheme (new every three years).
My mobility scooters are my own - one up to 8mph road-worthy and fit for countryside use, the other 4mph and useful only in supermarkets and shopping malls (nominally a pavement scooter, but can't cope with camber, gradient and general unsuitablity of UK pavements!!!).
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
OG: Sorry, misunderstood. How exciting! Knew there are better allowances nowadays but not sure how they worked. Hope you find something to your liking. Do you even get your choice of colour, etc? Don't get blown away in these high winds whilst you're out!
OG: wish I could get my husband to use a mobility scooter! He's virtually unable to walk, falls quite a lot, even in the house. Could yours be used by someone with only use of 1 hand!
All: if you are in UK and north and west of Northern Ireland, batten down the hatches and get the boat ready! Like Diane in Indiana, we've had a week of rain and more to come! Severe weather warnings for today and Saturday.
Morning Lindybird. Last of the bruising now fading away. It really did shake me up and it is only now 3 weeks on that I am feeling more like my old self. You are right about getting older it does take longer to get over things. Of course since then I have had 2 more falls in the garden, the last one being yesterday. Both times I had wellies on and with all the rain we have had wellies and wet grass do not seem to go together. Will have to get some spiked wellies or put socks over them. These were only minor falls so no damage done.
It is a sunny day here but if the weather forecast is to be believed we are in for heavy rain tomorrow and Saturday. My garden has just about dried out ready for another soaking.
I do spend a lot of time on line (once housework done). We have so many different links and videos to watch it is easy to while away a couple of hours just looking at those I also spend quite a bit of time watching the birds and squirrels who visit my garden and get immense pleasure from it.
Off to Cornwall for a short break next Thursday. Husband is 50 so we decided to treat ourselves to a min break in a part of the country we love. As long as it is dry and reasonably warm I will be happy. I really do not like the cold weather. Have very poor circulation so it is hard to stay warm. I look like a Michelin man with so many layers of clothing on.
Hope your day is good.
Original goldfinch my late Dad had his 2 scooters which gave him a new lease of life. He would have a taxi to the shops and take his scooter with him. That meant he could be independent right up to the day he died. Had to ask him to stop as he did not have much feeling in his feet and it worried us still that he was still driving his car. You are so right about pavements in the UK you really have to watch yourself especially when it is dark. I am glad that you are still able to drive anyway.
