Weekly chat, Sunday 5 February 2012

Welcome to another week. Lots of Dunedin osprey and Hampton eagle pics on last week's thread. Also Margo's Billie and some uncomfortable-looking cats.

  • Thanks Diane.  We got in a lot of groceries yesterday, just in case we were snowed in and didn't fancy travel over the next couple of days. At least our heating is still working.

Did you see the wonderful pics of the latest galaxy discovered, I forget the name they gave it?  Will go now & look for a link to give you....

  • Here is the address for the BBCNews site report:  Its a beautiful sight:

  • LINDY I hope you get your water back on soon.

Not going to go walking with OH and Mia today as still feel slightly odd.  Going to stay inside and get lots of fluids down me.  Have a slightly sore throat but don't think that's connected.  Thanks all for your concern.

There has just been a real fight between 2 blackbirds.  Feathers flying.  As I said before doubtless territorial arguments will be kicking in.

  • Trish - It does sound quite likely that the combination of the cold, the pain and possible no breakfast made you feel faint. Take care of yourself.

Lindy - Hope that you get your water on soon.

Annette - I don't have a sweet tooth but the sound of the white cake made me drool! Alas, nothing exciting like that in my freezer.

No snow here. I heard on the radio about the traffic snarl ups down south. I can't imagine spending over seven hours (thats what it was when I heard the report) stuck in a car in the snow. Must catch up on the news, have only just got out of the shower - shame on me.

  • Thanks AQ for starting us off.

It looks like most of Britain has had the snow.  It started last night here - dau. was out and OH got a bit worried.  Rang her and she said she was on her way - got back safely.   Decided not to risk church this morning as she has to go to work tomorrow so hopefully the main roads will be clear.  Our road and side roads on the estate are pretty aweful.

Took these few pics this morning -

I think this is the female robin - took some yesterday without the snow.

looking for morsels - won't find any on that "carpet"

Do hope everybody keeps warm and Lindybird, hope your water returns soon. At least you have some bottled in the garage for drinks!!

  • Enjoy the family gathering AQ and hope Miss 16 enjoys it too.

  • Good Afternoon ALL. We have had  6" of snow, even deeper in places. The farmer was out with the snow plough earlier and has cleared the lane, which runs across the top of our close to the main village road, where we found that the council had not even gritted the road !! It is even a bus route. This is the scene I awoke to this morning. I took it on my phone, from the end of our front garden towards a lane and a farm.

  • Oh dear Margo, you did have a funny start to the day.  Do hope hands have calmed down and that you are feeling a lot better.

Annette - glad you had a super birthday, its a poor tale if you can't indulge on one day of the year - at least you've got some to look forward to (in the freezer)

Interesting thoughts, Dianne.  Drones could have their uses but as you say "what about the birds" I suppose time will tell!

  • Thank you so much for all my Birthday cards and messages. I have so enjoyed receiving and reading them all.

Linda, I presume there is a burst water main locally. I hope the problem doesn't take too long to repair. Thanks for posting the photo's of Margo's lovely Billie.

Lynette, I was texting my daughter, as I knew she was working until 10pm last night and was driving. We never stop worrying about our children, no matter how old they are. Lovely photographs of your birds in the snow.

Dibnlib, What a joy it must have been to have an empty swimming pool but well done on completing 60 lengths

AQ, Will you be giving your grand daughter some driving lessons :-)

Patricia, So sorry that your OH now has shingles. It is all so unfair for both of you.

Annette,What an over indulgent birthday. I hope you managed to sleep after all that sugar. We have cancelled going to a favourite restaurant tonight because of the snow and ice. The lady who answered the phone said they had had 22 cancellations for tonight.

Heather I am sure your brother welcomes your phone calls. I hope all goes well for his wife's sister.

Alicat, I am sure you made sure that Bobbie enjoyed his birthday.

Diane, My imagination has taken over and I have visions of us all having to duck and weave to avoid all those drones, if they lose control or fly too low.

Trish, Sorry you had such a worrying start to your day. I am sure Heather has given you the correct diagnosis. Take care.

I am watching the rugby, ( latest score,  Ireland 10 Wales 5 . I was so pleased to see that England won yesterday ( England. 13 - Scotland 6 ) as it is a new young team. Time for some tea and cake.

  • Morning all: Slept like a baby last night - wonderful! Am off for a walk in a minute to start burning off all that cake!

Trish: That's disconcerting. Wonder if it had anything to do with going out into the cold straight from warm bed and maybe bending over to clean feeders? Did you glean anything from your internet search?

Lindybird: Smart to have water stashed for emergencies; do hope things get sorted out soon.  The Hubble has provided us with truly magical insights into the universe - and here we are, puny little creatures in a tiny, tiny corner of it.

Lynette: Always a relief when the kids arrive at their destinations safely, even when it's not snowing.  Looks like someone found a snack in your feeder.

BrendaH: That's a nice shot from a phone - very pretty scene.

AQ: How did the birthday party turn out? Very scary indeed when teens get their driving licenses!   We lived behind an ambulance/fire station when my daughter got hers and I could hear the alarms go off whenever they got a call - would rush to the window to try to listen to theirPA system to find out what had happened and where!

SuperBowl Sunday here, which means it will be quiet everywhere, except for those houses in the neighborhood that are hosting parties. Then you hear loud cheers or howls of disappointment.  Off for that walk. Stay warm everyone!
