Hi all. Just got this started before zipping off to bluegrass concert. Check out the previous blog for nifty photos of alpacas from OG and more!
George: I don't think I've progressed far beyond the old Brownie box cameras; enjoy experimenting with the new one. My Dad made a crystal set (radio for the young'uns) out of one old box camera.
jsb/Caerann: Re Autumwatch, if anyone in the UK records it, we'd still need a region-free DVD player to see it here. I think it was Diane who said you could buy them on the 'net for not much. We're probably going to do that since we'd like to get some BBC videos.
Carpeting is being installed as I type. Be still my heart!
sorry you can,t get catch up in the states and will not see autumnwatch. i am looking forward to it.
poor dillon has a squiffy tum so had no supper and will get no breaky. i do feel a heel as he is still looking at me pleadingly."mum you forgot my supper"
for me favourite films are more recent "out of africa" "amadeus"(love mozarts music) and "the english patient"
today the weather here was glorious so we took a trip over to beauly where there is a deli called "the square on the corner" where they serve the most delicious fish chowder and it is one of those places where you usually end up talking to the table next to you- today was no exception. then on to house of beauly where they have exclusive clothes and gifts. restrained myself and only bought one small christmas decoration. saw a great gift for a friend (a boxer doorstop) guess what her preferred breed is. she has 2 and a very mismatched basset hound. i was just about to go and buy it but someone beat me to it. they may get another in the 1st week of sept. my friend wants for nothing so is difficult to buy for.!!!!! having said that i bought her a squirrel box for last birthday-they get reds in their garden- and she was thrilled with it.
oh dear a few small cries from dillon (i think i will dig a hole and jump in!!!!!
dibnlib: Assume squiffy turn means upset tummy? Poor Dillon; how about chicken noodle soup? Dry toast? a few doses of antacid? (Well, they work for me). I liked those movies too, especially loved the background music to Out of Africa. I haven't read the book though.
Gary: I kept meaning to mention earlier that Jet Blue is offering allegedly inexpensive fares to Europe as part of their brand new (announced today) hookup with Lufthansa - not sure if you're obliged to fly to Germany or not - but I know you were talking about higher airfares to the UK the other week.
JSB, thanks for the info about the programme but as one of the unfortunates in the US, no luck for me!
Dibnlib, sorry about Dillion, poor guy. Like Annette says, perhaps a few "Tums" will help. I feed them to the horses if they have an upset tummy and it works very well.
Annette, great news on the carpet!!
Just cleaned the gutters before the rain. If there is a worse yard job I'd like to know !!

Thanks Annette, good to know as an option in the future. I "bit the bullet" and booked so am all set.(flying BA) I like to fly direct if I can, I hate to fly past the destination to then come back!! LOL
hi annette correct with upset tummy. i am definitely not his favourite person at the moment. no i haven't read out of africa either but i have visited kenya ( have visited many of the game parks) the background music is of course my favourite mozart
have been listening to the news and they have just been telling of the rare white hart which has been filmed Apparently there are only 2 in the country, it is not an albino, but a mutation of a red dear. she certainly looks beautiful. they are keeping her location secret in case some evil crackpot decides to bag her as a trophy. think i would put his head on a stake. that is after hang drawing and quartering him of course. in case you don't know that is a particularly gruesome form of medieval form of torture and they can bring it back as far as i am concerned for any form of animal cruelty. i am usually quite a mild tempered person but not as far as animals are concerned.
Hi Gary,
Here is a consolation prize...not seen yet on this forum, as far as I know. If you don't 'parlez vous francais' the video does not need translation But, I bet you know by now, what a Balbuzard Pecheur is? I read the webpage source data to ascertain the date it was made, to no avail, I think it was a few years back probably prior to 2006, when I started following osprey migration.

I hope this works, even if Autumnwatch does not!
Regards
jsb.
And to Annette, are you saying that even privately recorded DVD's are region encoded? I must check with my Panasonic shop. (Annette, you know, but others may not know that commercial DVD's and Blu Rays are encoded for the UK as region2, which means that they cannot play on normal US machines.)

Thanks for the link JSB, will check it out shortly. I had an inkling what a "Balbuzard Pecheur" is but had to check to make sure!! LOL
Yes, privately recorded DVD's seem to be "region specific", or so I have found. No idea how or why but when my family send me something they have recorded on the TV, I can only play it in my "chipped" DVD player that plays all regions. You sound much more tech savy than me so may be able to tell me why!
jsb: I'm not sure about privately recorded DVDs, I'm assuming that if it's Region 2 in, it's Region 2 out, but I'm not sure at all.
