Weekly Chat, Sunday November 8

Hi all. Just got this started before zipping off to bluegrass concert. Check out the previous blog for nifty photos of alpacas from OG and more!

  • Glad you had a succesful shopping trip Alan.  Another lovely picture of your goldfinch.

  • Lindybird you post has made me smile about your OH, I have to say I hink most men are stubborn and they don't always know best.

Housework finished for today but I do feel better for doing it, was really starting to worry me.  Sitting down now and will probably watch some tennis stretched out on the settee.

  • Thanks Gary.  Yes it was a really awful fall I had and I go cold when I think about it.  Could have done a lot more damage than I did.  Progressing fairly well now but goodness knows what the eye specialist will say tomorrow when I see him about a cancer I had removed from under my eye.  Husband thinks he will be asking if I am a battered wife but nothing could be further from the truth, I have a wonderful husband who could not do more for me.

  • Lovely picture Alan, all puffed up like that:) Glad the shopping went well. I have my own shopping mission later but don't have the help of my "Lady P" so am going in solo!

Lindybird, glad your OH is off the roof! Can't fault the Dog, he is only doing what comes naturally LOL I bet he looks at you with those big eyes and he is forgiven......

Margobird, good luck at the doctors.

I've sorted the horses out , now wiating for my neighbour to come up and give one of her retreivers a bath in the barn so I can have a stroke:) (of the dog of course..)

  • Talking of food shopping, I don't know if others find this, but when I go on my own I get what is on the list and that is it, but when the "better half" comes we do lots of impulse buying and the bill is twice as much as normal!

  • Of course the Dog gets forgiven everything, Gary!  We spoil him rotten, really.  Let him sleep next to our bed,( usually the bedrm is a  'forbidden zone' just to keep down the doghairs etc) for 4 nights during the worst of the fireworks recently.  Often take him on shopping missions, just because he loves being inthe car, does'nt care where we're going....   Consequence of this, I usually get only a few strides away from the car, when the car alarm goes off, because I forget to switch the motion sensor off.  He is popular with our neighbours, I'm glad to say, because he doesn't bark much, only when he thinks we're being invaded, then he manages a great big WOOOOF which sounds like an even bigger dog!

Glad to hear youre still improving, Margobird. Enjoy the tennis.

  • hello everyone

lindybird we had friends who visited us in shetland. they saw that fingal was digging to oz and when we moved down here they joked not to tell them where we lived as they would just wander round culloden looking for a garden with enormous holes. poor dave spends a lot of time repairing them.

as for going up on roofs, a friend of ourswas not happy that her husband had to go and fix something on their roof. he is only a firefighter so if anyone is qualified to go up on a roof it is charles.

watched the service at westminster this am. very moving and amazing music. our armed forces can of course put on the most amazing ceremonies. tragic about the 6 who were repatriated yesterday

  • Lindybird, Dog certainly is a charactor:) They become so much part of the family.

    Hello Dibnlib

  • hi again

margobird you must have done one heck of a lot of damage. poor you. just don't do it again

great picture alan. have asked for yet another birdfeeder for christmas and niger seeds for christmas hoping to attract them

have checked in my rspb book and it appears their habitat is scattered bushes and small trees. i am afraid that as we are on the doorstep of culloden forest we might not get them.

  • hello djoan s

have checked in my book and it says that the goldfinch is a partial migrant . some do and some do not and it is more likely to be the female who goes to france spain and belgium. so you will certainly see less around in winter
