Hi Tiger, I note that you state that a secret pair bred in the Lake District in 1999, but you credit the same pair with rearing the first English chick for 150 years in 2000. What happened to the clutch in the previous year?
Are the secret pair still breeding and still secret?
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Roy says on page 157 of a Life of Ospreys the nest failed in 1999 so I think he means eggs were laid but no chicks fledged and the pair returned in 2000 and reared one chick and failed to return

Okay, thanks CRossOne. I just wanted to make sure of the facts. I think I shall have to get that book, it contains lots of useful information.

There was one pair breeding in 2002 which was the Bassenthwaite pair.
I do not think we should mess this thread up any more.
We can always carry on in the Osprey chat thread.

Ok, one pair in the breeding table had eggs which failed in 1999 but he also mentions a pair nesting in secret, where no one knew whether they had eggs that failed or had just built a nest and did not breed. So that is two nests in 1999.

Sad news from Dunedin, Florida:
"4/15 - Chick number 2 died last night or today. As difficult as that is for us as viewers, it is more important that the Osprey pair has at least one strong, healthy chick. SJ"
