A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Lochter incident is interesting. I wonder if that is what happened at Kielder.
Feeding time in Estonia. Unfortunately Piret is in front of the camera, so impossible to see which of the chicks are being fed.
What is happening at Lochter, Alan?
do wish she wouldn't feed from this position 'cos can't see chicks at all - looks a bit windy there

For those who haven't seen details of this incident: a buzzard was filmed taking a chick from the nest at Lochter (forum regular Keith's local nest): see
RSPB have posted a response emphasising that they have never seen this in all the years the LG nest has been monitored, so it is very rare, but does show why breeding ospreys are so protective of even quite well-grown young.
What an unfortunate event. So sorry this has happened. That buzzard will come back & I am really worried for other chick
One Life - Live It!!
The buzzard incident has just been shown on BBC Scotland. They showed the dead osprey chick which was found near the buzzard nest. Strangly the chick did not show much damage and it doesnt look like the buzzard had any intention of eating it.
Any ideas ?
Oh my goodness, how dreadful! I would never have believed that could happen. No wonder there is usually one or the other of the parents on guard. That was quite a big chick too.
A quick check on our kalakotkas this morning:
