Carol W said:Surely they would have reported if white YV had been around last year as well.
They were fairly secretive about the second Bassenthwaite pair - only reported (and I think then let slip accidentally!) very late in the season, and with no indication of ID, though it was mentioned, separately, that two of the 2007 chicks had been seen (as we now know YU at Esthwaite, and YV at Bassenthwaite).
Adrian is on the Bassenthwaite protection team (this year and last year), so he should know what he is talking about.

That's beautiful, Alan. What sort of temperatures will they be experiencing?
ALAN, how sad I am not to have "known" the lovely Froona, what a loss she is, and she was quite a young woman :'(

Greeting from the Shetland Islands.
My friend Paula (From LG Ospreys Forum) has PM me tonight with great news there is an egg on the nest already at Lochter. Not so long ago I was posting pictures here of the female returning and mating.
Thank you Paula and if this nest is successful this year we will be spending all our summer eating cakes and drinking tea down there.
I can't remember where this nest is - Museum of Natural History... Nova Scotia? Have looked back thru the pages but must have missed it.
Anyway, the following 10 minutes covers visits by the male bird over 5 hours. Not much nestorising, he's mainly just waiting. At the end he brings a fish but there's no-one to give it to :'( I managed to stop the recording while the bird was on the nest, inexcusable! No sound on this cam. Interesting-looking osprey, IMHO.
syclla Yes that is what we call the Nova Scotia nest. A bit misleading really as the original Oscar seems to have gone to osprey heaven in 2010/2011 and now we have a new Oscar. Also there are lots of osprey nests in Nova Scotia. For a long time we had almost no eastern Canadian posters. Then one turned up on the board in 2008 and introduced us to ospreys from Nova Scotia.
Here is the original Oscar
Notice anything about him?

What a lovely white chest Oscar has, funny his name should start with an "O" as in Odin LOL.
