Hi everyone. If you didn't catch pages 20 and 21 of last week's blog, check them out for lovely photos of Woodpigeons, sunset at Solway, and a wonderful shot of 10 puppies!! And, of course, interesting and funny posts from fellow bloggers.
Hi, Terry M- Difficult to say, but if your cat in the photo has a very thick tail, it might be a Maine Coon. They have very luxuriant fur and are quite bulky, without being particularly heavy, if you know what I mean. Queenie looks a lovely cat, anyway. I love 'em all, even the mongrels.
Annette: Lightning is great! why have you not shown us him before!! Looks as if he enjoys life with you.
Diane: Thanks for the A B site link- will have a look later.
Weather here today is very mild indeed for October - you could even go for a walk without a coat. Hope we don't pay for it later with bitter cold winds & snow. At least it's saving on the heating bills- Husband is in the mood for saying "just put another sweater on" when I complain about the thermostat.
Here on TI it is very mild for late October. Warm enough for Thunderdog Hamish to drag his blanket out onto the lawn.
Temp 15.8c , Wind SSW 10mph , Visibility 50kms , Pressure 1007 hPa Rising.
Dew point 8.2c , Wet bulb 12.2c , Humidity 62%.
Alan: Glad Thunderdog is enjoying the mild autumn. Has Lady P returned from her mission away? You sound very capable, so I'm sure you both manage well without her, except for missing her company.
Like me, you are probably awaiting the latest report from LG.....
Morning all.
Diane: We have (I just found out) about 10 historic covered bridges remaining in California, mostly in the foothills of the Sierras. Sounds like nasty (but appropriate?) weather for a covered bridge festival. And no, we don't seem to have much piggy flu here - yet. It seems to hit young people hard. Those of us born before 1950 apparently have some kind of immunity left over from a similar strain that was around in the '40s. Thanks for the heads-up re the Aurora cam - at least we won't see car lights now, eh?
Cirrus: I have three varieties of white roses in my bed; two have a very faint fragrance, but only at certain times. Enjoy the central heating!
Wattle: Lightning seems to enjoy the cozy quarters; various parts of her do hang over the sides but she doesn't wake up. That's her "day" bed, which is on top of a file box to facilitate easier petting by hubby while he's at his computer!
OG: Enjoy your contractor-free weekend. We had electricians around yesterday installing exterior lights so we don't topple into bushes while taking out trash after dark, etc. FYI, it took two electricians and my husband to screw in a lightbulb. :-) Is that lovely garden your present one?
TerryM: Looks like elegant Queenie (like that name) would give Lightning a good run for her money. Funny how cats don't "smile" but dogs do.
Everyone else: Take care and have a good afternoon/evening. Off to put stuff (glasses, dishes) in kitchen cupboards. Yippee!
Lindybird : Lady P is back now. It was just an awayday as her sister lives about 20 miles from here. Alice is online now so we wont have long to wait.
FAB
Thanks, Alan - the suspense is killing me!!
NEW BLOG FROM ALICE.......

Is that lovely garden your present one?
That was the patio of our garden previous to this - when we lived in NW England. It was an internal corner at the head of a cu-de-sac so had a fair size garden at the back - room for shed etc, doggy-run (when we had them) , veg patch, back borders and a pond and scree below the small pond on the patio.
Here (since 2003) we are on an external corner, so front garden is larger. There we have mainly lawn with a small shrub bed, a grasses bed and a spring bulb patch under some small trees - in summer, the colour there is in containers. At back, there are raised veg beds, greenhouse, small wildlife area, shed and compost bins to the side, and a large deck behind the house with two small perennial beds and loads of containers. Our plot has no right angles, but kind of diagonals, so between back and side the house is nearer the fence and makes a natural division between "rooms".
Picture taken June 2008 across front of the deck (excuse compost bins - I should have cropped the picture!). Will put more on my page gallery. Containers are great for me as I can reach to look after them when they are moved to edge of deck, so I don't feel useless (greenhouse is also my domain!).
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Annette - PS - enjoy setting out the stuff in your new kitchen - quite an adventure!
Nearly drove me crazy a few years ago, as we moved from a much bigger kitchen & I found it hard to prioritize everything. Some things are still in boxes! Enjoy, Annette, you deserve to have pleasure in it all, now that the worst is over!
