Evening all: Happy New Week!
Morning ALL. How nice to see dibnlib and Heron (Paul) here again. I'll just say I hope OG and Eagle Eye's trip goes well this weekend and hugs to Margo. Lucky Lindy with your hotel upgrade, lovely pics, and I also admired AQ's tales of transparent toilet doors until the lock turns - hope the technology doesn't break down! Must go and do something productive.
Talking of playing a flute in a cave, this vid was made by some people I know - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TE5hx6USi58
Terry in Cumbria
PATRICIA I hope the obedience competition goes well.
Sandra: I just saw the news about Leri. I hope your little Welsh osprey is fine and the problem is with the transmitter. Hope Joe is okay, too.
I'll be back later to catch up with everyone. Really super busy doing housely work. I'll start the new week if no one else is about.
Worrying news about Leri. Just hope she is still OK and maybe will press on, later.
Impressed with all the "housely work" Diane! - you're welcome to come and help with mine! I never seem to get to the end of it.
Nice pic of the beautiful owls again, Sandra. Lovely flute playing on the vid. TerryM.
Thanks for all your good wishes for tomorrow - we are looking forward to it.
Here are some pics of a trip we took into the mountains on holiday - the first is of Argostoli, looking back from the mountain road to where we had come from:
~ it was a cloudy day, as it had been raining, and as we drove up higher we came to parts of the road where the stones had slipped down from the slopes & onto the road - my OH bravely took our little car over them! Here is where we got to:
~ a place called Sami. This view is from the monestary above the town. There were some extremely old ruins there, but they did not look safe - " 'Elf & Safety" would have had a fit! We clambered around, followed by a dear little cat who would not leave me - I did so want to take her home with me! Later we went into the town again for a nice lunch on the front. There were a group of Greeks at the next table, talking loudly and being very lively - I did wish I knew what they were discussing! - perhaps the political situation & the economic problems......
Afternoon all,
Linda : thanks for the pics of Buzz in the water. We used to have a black lab that loved swimming but unfortunately Hamish hates the water and wont even go out in the rain now.
Dibnlib : thanks for the pics of Fingals Cave. It really is a most unusual rock formation. Also nice pic of Dillon and the pom.
Patriciat: I hope all goes well at the agility competition today.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat etc.
Another nice day after a cloudy start but not as warm as forecast. I have been watching Arsenal beat Chelsea 5 - 3 . Another excellent match after last weeks 6 - 1 thrashing of Man U. Lots of goals always make football more exciting. Must remember to change the clocks back tonight.
Disappointing news about Leri but we know from previous years that there would be some bad news sooner or later. Does not make it any easier to take however.
Alan: Do you think that more ospreys fall victim to conditions at their wintering grounds than the actual migration itself, which was conventional wisdom? Do you think that the danger to Leri and Joe might also imperil Bynack? Do you think that in this case the risk is natural (predators, drought, etc.) or human (oil/gas exploration, hostilities between Mauritania and Senegal over the river, etc.)?
Thanks! I always trust your insight.
Diane : It does seem like the migration itself is not the main danger. The young ospreys are encountering new experiences all the time when they arrive in Africa and it takes some experience to learn about all the dangers in their wintering grounds. We are learning all the time but it does seem safer for the juveniles to be on the coast and fishing out to sea rather than inland. Originally I thought that Dulas was in the most dangerous area but now I am not so sure. Bynack is north of the area where Joe and Leri frequented so he may be safer there. I hope so.
Diane & Linda.
I too am hoping that Leri is ok. It will be such a sad loss for the Dyfi Osprey Team who has looked after them and also kept us upto date everyday.
Come on Leri, fly!! you have Welsh blood in those wings!!!
If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
Hi folks, just skimmed through all the news and pics, thanks its always lovely to read what is going on. Sandra thanks for the link for PPOwl. Margo, glad sister had a reasonable night and BiL also managed to get some sleep. Helpers are really rallying round, aren't they?? Hope you make it to see your sister.
OH packed his case yesterday so we are all packed and ready for the off tomorrow morning. Dau# is taking us to the airport(Birmingham) which isn't too far from where we are. All checked in through the internet so just have to drop our bags off and hopefully the assistance we have asked for will be forthcoming and onward until we get to Columbo. Really looking forward to the break and I'm sure everything will fall into place. A few pics from yesterday and today from Africa coming up then will be in touch with all after the 15th Nov.
two big pussy cats!! They are brother and sister.

one of the bushes in flower, quite bright amongst the undergrowth.

Alan: Thanks for responding to my questions. I appreciate it. I, too, hope Bynack is safe, and I'll continue to hope for the best for Leri and Joe.
