Hi all:
Lindybird: I responded to your post at the end of the last Weekly Chat.
Hi All! An Important Event in the sporting calendar, Alan! Look forward to more photos, that conker is a stonker! We used to love playing when we were littlies, & found that our conkers got harder if we kept them for a few weeks in Mum's airing cupboard- they often got forgotten though, and then came rolling out when some clean jamas were being searched for!
Annette: Your sisters day at Ely sounds great, these things are good if you can get to them. Those huge carthorses are just wonderful, they have such enormous feet! Sadly, they are getting rarer, as they're only kept for their novelty value nowadays. My Husband used to be a farmer & did once plough with horses (makes him sound about 105 years old!) so he loves to see them. (his horse was not as big as a proper carthorse though).
Not as sunny as forecast today, so got caught out in the drizzle this morning when taking dog-on-a-diet for his walk- he was very interested in some Ramblers' sandwiches, when he found them sitting under a bridge to keep dry while eating their snack. We had to grab him & haul him away from temptation.
Caerann: I often pop in to look at Palemale & Lola, they are so beautiful, and the pics are really well done, he must be a good photographer to catch them so well.
Friends of mine are currently in N. Zealand, having gone round via Dubai, Hong Kong & Sydney: they planned the trip carefully to get lots of breaks in between 'planes & of course its a great excuse to see lots of the world on the way. I keep getting exotic postcards: last one was of Fairy Penguins and a Kookaburra, besides the usual kangaroo & ostrich. The penguins are really cute, AQ.
hi annette
"porridge" is the funniest sitcom about prison life, of all things. it stars ronnie barker who has to be one of the most clever funny men of all time. "only fools and horses" stars david jason and nicholas lyndehurst and is about an unscrupulous london trader and his put upon brother. they always end up in trouble. both are old but timeless comedies. if you ever get the get the chance to see them, please take the opportunity. i think you will laugh your socks off
edencourt is our local theatre and we have tickets to see roy dennis and other wildlife experts giving a talk on "natures homecoming" later on this month
Thanks Carrann. I used to look all the time but haven't recently. Thanks for the kick up the .... LOL
That is chilly there. Are you anywhere where you get the "lake effect snow"?

Aye Gary, living only 2.5 miles west of Lake Michigan means we do get lake effect snow although sometimes not as badly as northern Indiana does. 'Tis far better than being in Buffalo New York or in Ohio along the Lake Erie shoreline though. You couldn't pay me to live in Buffalo or also the Upper Pennisula of Michigan, that's for sure!
Not ploughing, but thought you might like to see these two Percheron brothers, Lewis and Harris
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Hi, folks. Just back from 2 weeks in Strathspey. Too late for ospreys, of course, but red squirrels feeding a few feet from the kitchen window - every day! Also visits from crested tits. Lovely! When we're on the subject of world championships, today was the World Porridge-Making Championship in Carrbridge, just a few miles from Loch Garten - honest! It's hotly (!) contested and the prize is a Golden Spurtle a sputle is a wooden stick for stirring the porridge. Don't we share very arcane information on this forum?
dibnlib: Well, thanks for sorting me out re Porridge and Fools and Horses - cultural gap there - I thought we were talking generic porridge, horses, fools. I'll keep an eye out for the videos on Netflix. :-)
OG: Thanks for pix of plough horses. Near my sister's house there's a farm with some HUGE black horses - don't know what sort - great lovely animals.
Caerann: Being that close to Lake Michigan sounds plenty cool. I'm not sure I could handle Seattle at this point!
Patriciat: Welcome back. Porridge and conkers - what more could we ask for? I had oatmeal (porridge I think) when I went out to breakfast with my daughter this morning (it's cool-weather food).
On the leafblower front, saw an "Earthwise" model today at Orchard Supply. It was tiny and only cost $29.99 - maybe could move a feather?
Hi Annette
I am BACK!!!! Had to get a new PC..old one just died. I feel like a learner again. Had trouble getting connected to net. and lost ALL info. (must do back ups)!!!!
How are the girls getting on...I haven't had time to read any reports. In fact it will probably take me a week to catch up on all blogs.
