Weekly Chat, Sunday October 11, 2009

Hi all:

Lindybird: I responded to your post at the end of the last Weekly Chat.

  • Thanks, Diane, for your help.  It worked !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • George g : I totally agree with you about the government being slow to react when big business is involved. They were voted in to represent the people not some vested interest. Half of them are corrupt anyway.

Weather here on TI is dull , cold and miserable. Where is the sunshine we were promised?

    Temp 11.1c , Wind N 9mph , Visibility 45kms , Pressure 1031hPa falling.

Just been out with the dog and it was a bit nippy.

  • Wow, Diane, I didn't know that either, thanks so much!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks, Diane, I didn't know that either ... what fun things we share on  here!!!!!

  • Good Day/Night All!

We finally have some sunshine here in Chicago after many days of gloom and rain. The gloom is another lake effect condition, at least here along Lake Michigan, where most of the winter is overcast in addition to the often bitter cold and snow.

It's nice to see the folks back here this week that had been off the group for awhile!    =O)  We sure do have alot of pages of banter going on here and that's a very good thing indeed.

Diane: I ran across this update on the Peregrines in Burnsville, MN. Seems they've come up with another solution to keep the birds from getting injured or killed there:

"Great news on Blackdog! Xcel Energy decided to put a screen over the natural gas stack to prevent peregrines and other birds from entering and getting trapped. We are so pleased - this will be an expensive endeavor, and while Xcel has been a great partner in peregrine recovery and management, we didn't expect this! They will be putting the screen up sometime in January."

    Happy Saturday/Sunday to all!

  • Hallo all. Spent the early morning entering bill stuff in the computer program, then went off to gym.

Diane: You were up late/very early last night/this morning.

OG: Love all those kinds of music. My husband likes to listen (mostly to classical) at home, but I find there's something very special about live performances.  Your Wood pigeons look a lot like our Ring-necked pigeons, which are huge and throw the hanging feeder off balance when they land, also leaving no room for other birds, but they're pretty, and nowhere near as raucous and greedy as the Acorn woodpeckers or the Shrub jays.

George: Fence sounds perfect - and I suspect we all have the same soapbox!

Caerann: Good news about the natural gas stack. And yes, it's nice to see former regulars back on the blog, but now I'm wondering where Tish went - we only just got Maureen back.

Have a nice afternoon/evening; Back later.

  • Didn't know about the "Lake effect gloom" Caerann, interesting.

Good news about the "stack" Nice to see companies doing things like that and hope they get some good publicity from it.

AQ, great picture of Woody:) Hope he is still doing OK

  • What I described as Baroque music was really Renaissance - I guess a bit earlier than Baroque (some music history buff will put me right!!)  Anyway, it was excellent, played on reproduction instruments of the period, made by one of the players, in various solo, duet, trio, quartet and quintet groupings, and performed in costume.  The group is the Galloway Consort, very local, one plays lute and recorder (not both at once!!), next one does soprano voice and percussion, third (co-leader) does viol, bass viol, sackbutt and recorder (various pitches), next one does viol and bass viol, main leader plays renaissance guitar, bass viol, sackbutt and recorders - and makes their instruments.  After the performance, there is an opportunity to talk and ask questions about the instruments.

It was an afternoon performance, so we completed our time out with dinner on the Solway coast; so here is a picture to give you an impression of a Solway Sunset, though not a particularly spectacular one, and only taken with the third-rate "emergency camera" kept in the car for impulse shots!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG. Very nice shot - pretty and peaceful.  I won't be the music buff to correct you - I don't even know what a sackbutt is!

Weather cooling down here thank heaven; nice cloud cover; quiet evening. Have been lining kitchen shelves and cabinets for what seems like hours; almost time for the early evening glass of wine.

  • Thanks Diane for answering OG's query. I had to laugh at the following rash of italics, bold and those ever-delightful exclamation marks !!!!!!!

Gary: 'Twas not I but OG who posted the pic of woodies. I have yet to learn how to add pics to this chatter page. I have managed on the Galleries because they have an 'Add photo' button.

10.30 am Another blue sky day. Temp 6 C at 7 am, max 20 C expected. Beware, weeds, I'm looking for you.
