Weekly Chat, Sunday October 4, 2009

Another week folks. Just in case you missed it, AQ posted the following at 12:41 a.m. Sunday morning:

Good morning. 10.10 am. Yawn. Couldn’t get to sleep last night plus we lost an hour as daylight saving started. Tiring but such an exciting day yesterday watching Daughter#2 look at 100s and try on dozens of wedding dresses. Funny (strange funny), that she wants me involved. For my wedding I was busy fending off my mother as, being the last of the flock to marry, she had developed a set of traditions/customs that were essential. Hm, I won some, lost some. As Dau#2 has been living away from home for several years, I am quite happy to sit back and let her decide her day.

Annette. Until you learn the new appliances are you eating out of a can beside a campfire in the backyard? Or on a diet of salads? LOL

Diane. Later I shall post some photos of Pacific black ducks on the Backyard gallery. Loved the Kakapo video – thanks for the link.

  • I dibnlib, no duplicate  :)   Oh, lucky you, oh happy day when you took a walk through Culloden forest. I've never seen dolphins for real. Oh lucky you, again.

How sad about Fingal (great name!) - well, dibnlib, for my choice it would be the dogs home. You obviously have a happy pet environment  and so many pooches are so in need. I shall be watching your space..  :)

  • Thurs 12.40 pm. Daily temps now range 7 to 17 C. So much to read when I miss a few days !!! Our children's generation (cousins, spouses, partners, whatever) do a Kris Kringle for Xmas gifts. One decent gift instead of lots of little things. Anyway what are we doing talking about Xmas this early, just because the shops are putting on the pressure.  Xmas is a four-letter-word.

The starlings are nesting in our garage again. Lots of wee calls. Frantic shuttling of food supplies.

  • sounds like you are having a great trip Annette. (and thanks jane)

I did see some great colours and i will post a few pictures on my page in the next day or so for those interested.

  • Annette: Your trip sounds lovely! Pretty deer... Continue to have a wonderful time!

This post is for jsb and the others who liked the "birds with accents" story. You may also like reading about this study: "Inferior males get lucky with the birds." Let's hope that EJ comes back with high self esteem! (BTW: I think the study/findings are flawed -- bit too much "human" bias. I also don't like that the birds were put into cages to push buttons!) http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17932-inferior-males-get-lucky-with-the-birds.html

  • Morning all,

Coldest morning so far on TI.

Temp down to 4.0c at 07:00.

    Now it is sunny , Temp 5.9c , Wind W 8mph , Visibility 30km , Barometer 1016 hPa rising.

Nothing definate planned for today. We shall see what evolves.

  • Good morning everyone. Temperature here at 10.00 am Alan is 8 c with a high of (they say) 14 C at 13.00 hours.

Wind 2 to 7 mph (good oh) and it's gong to be a dry day (good on again).

Diane, I read the article in New Scientist - normally my favourite magazine (I don't read magazines but if I did mine would be New Scientist). No comment !!!! (know what you mean).

Enjoy your 'no plans' Alan. My day is to be spent with my aging friend Brenda who has a short term memory situation - not good. We go back a long long way when she was youngish and I was impossibly young (just joking  :)    ) I'm taking lunch for us and a video to share. Executive Decision with Kurt Russel will probably be my choice or Enemy of the State (Will Smith and Gene Hackman) . Brenda does enjoy a 'thriller' and I've watched them before so  I can spend the time 'explaining' the more subtle parts of the plot without losing the plot for myself..     :)

  • Hi, All.  Back from a few days away in warmer climes, but pleased the sun is now shining here in NW England, so I can get the shorts & Tshirts on the washing line.  Been away since 29th Sept., and what a difference there is here in the trees, its really autumnal- but one of my favourite times of year. How beautiful the leaves are, it never ceases to amaze me that they put on such a colourful display.

Dog-on-a-diet has backslid, as he spent his hols with friends who have spoiled him rotten;  he enjoyed a nice swim in nearby river & had to be washed on return to friends home, as he smelled!  He let their grandchildren climb over him with their sticky toys etc. & didn't mind a bit. (This is a dog who barks so loudly when the doorbell is rung that we have had to put up a warning notice: "Beware of the Dog".) Pleased now of course to be back with his beloved Master again, and slept across the doorway last night so we couldn't leave without him again.

Managed to go online at the Hotel & keep up with our 'girls' adventures, they are doing so well, I may be able to uncross my fingers soon...

  • Hello Lindybird glad you have enjoyed some sun while you were away.  Today is a lovely day here in Poole, completely different from yesterday when it poured down with rain all day.  A lot cooler this morning, temperature quite low first thing but warmed up nicely now.  Yes Autumn is a colourful time of the year with all the leaves changing colour and it also brings my birds back to the garden as they have been largely missing for a couple of months.  I know they are back as I keep have to fill the bird baths.

As you will have seen Rothes got a real move on while Mallachie is still "flitting around" as Alice puts it and who knows she might choose to stay in Portugal.  Look forward to another update when Alice/Richard have the time to see whether she has moved on.

  • Afternoon all,

Just got back from more shopping then lunch and a walk in the woods. While we were out sightings included 3 Red Kites , 2 baby rabbits , 1 squirrel and a leaf blower on migration.

Thunderdog Hamish has had his walk and is resting in the garden. Temp has risen to 13.9c and we have sunny intervals at the moment.

  • Alan that was funny "leaf blower on migration".  Sounds as though you had a nice walk and saw red kites, I am really envious and baby rabbits ah.  Termperature at 8.00 this morning was only 7c but has warmed up nicely now.  Glad Thunderdog Hamish has had his walk and is now resting, has he dragged his blanket out to lay on?
