Hi All:
jsb: At the end of the previous Weekly Chat are two responses to your posting about the birds with French accents. One is from me and not especially profound. The other is from Diane, and reads as follows : Lovely article. I always have two pairs of house wrens (known as jenny wrens here) who return about the same time in the spring. Even though both females are house wrens, I can always tell which bird is singing, no matter where they are. I don't know whether the slight difference is because they winter in different regions or because individual wrens have distinct sounds. I always put up houses for them, but, this year, one pair decided that it would be more fun to nest in the nook above my propane gas tank, where the dials and controls are. So I had to fiercely guard the nest from the gas company employees who periodically check the gas levels. The gas company guys think I'm looney but they didn't dare to defy me and bother the wrens!
Everyone: AQ posted this one: Adelaide 10.50 am 12 C. Pumpkin soup for lunch thanks to friend giving me 2 large butternuts. Today is the Bay to Birdwood Classic for cars 1956-1977. Once upon a time they left from Glenelg (the Bay), but lack of space means they now leave from West Beach (2 km north). They travel about 70 km (44 miles) to Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills where there is a Motor Museum. Next year is the run for the Vintage cars (pre-1956). A picnic day. A bit chilly today but not as chilly as Wattle's.
And Teresa had this tip: If you delete something by mistake it is worth holding the Ctrl key down and clicking on Z. In lots of instances it undoes your last action - not always though but still worth a try.
AQ and Teresa: Hope it was okay to copy and paste your comments on this page - didn't want anyone to miss them.
Just finished watching the Ken Burns program. Had never seen photos of Hetch-Hetchy, the apparently equally beautiful valley near Yosemite that was eventually damned. :-( Looks like it's on all week, along with a lot of supporting programs in the same vein.... Lucky us! Re John Muir: I'm always amazed at how much difference one person can make - and on such a scale! And lest we forget, John Muir was born in Dunbar, Scotland! Yeah!
Morning all. Absolutely beautiful morning (10am)here. Sun is shining, few white clouds sliding in the sky, temp 11C, trees having their autumn colours, just breathtaking! And the two, yes two, leaf blowers (defenitly horned ones not lesser spotted) just went on their way!
Annette, You asked about the eagles eating habbits, I think they are similar to the bald eagles you have in US; fish, hares, birds. And they are propably trying to keep that nest. There was some fighting last spring between ospreys and sea eagles. But the eagle pair is still quite young(ish), and didn`t have any eggs yet and so they gave up. It is to be seen, what happens next spring. I don`t know, witch nest I would rather have there, eagles or ospreys. Either way, succesfuly nesting is the main thing, `cause they both are wonderful birds and have their place in this world.
I heard that the resent wheather in Australia has something to do with the el Nino beeing strong this year. Hope you all coping where ever you are. It is sometimes hard to really understand what that kind of things do. Because we don`t have anything like that here, we only moan about cold and dark.. what petty minds we sometimes are ;)

CAERANN: Just watched the UTube film whilst eating my breakfast, (must dash off today, a busy day) & just wanted to thank you so much for the link: the birds esp. the owls, wonderful! Did enjoy it. So inspiring to think that people out there are really prepared to put so much effort into caring about them. As you say, if only everyone could be like that.
AUNTIE: See you are posting too. Thanks for interesting info about the osprey/eagle situation: they are all beautiful arent they. Have a good day!
Hi, Lindybird. How is Dog-on-diet coping? My sisters family tried to slim their dog once too. Everytime when they had somebody visiting, the doggie drooped her head found some molded bread piece somewhere, started eating it slightly sighing. You should`ve seen the visitors face! ;)
auntie: Typical dog behaviour! We have this theory that dogs only exist to eat! They are (mostly) so greedy, I suppose because in the wild they wouldnt know where the next meal was coming from, so its built in. He has only been deprived of treats for a few days, so not much difference in his appearance yet. We are not cruel, I hasten to add, folks!, but you do see dogs when you are out & about who are going to have a short life because they have been overfed. (On a diet myself at the same time!) - Did slip him a bit of raw pastry when making rhubarb pie last night (our son visiting, so pudding was served). He still has loads of energy & its a bit like having a hyperactive child at times (I mean the dog, not our son!!!). :-)

Caerann: Watched your YouTube link just now. Can’t speak for tears but my fingers work. Thank God for such people .
Good morning everyone.
Yes, Lindybird, when I've been out walking I've noticed some dog owners just don't seem to have any common sense - their dog has really struggled up a (not very steep) hill; that's unkind isn't it. I once saw an Ad for dietetic cat food!!!!!!! As if the cat fed itself !! Unless they are old or infrim, any dog should be able to 'leap' about, and bound around, - it's in their nature, isn't it. (All rhetorical questions) Mmmm, I reallly enjoy a rhubarb pie :)
Morning everyone, quick "drive by" posting!! LOL
I did record the programme Caerann, thanks for the tip again. Sounds like it was worth it and can't wait to watch it. I will get mum to sit with me as she is very interested in parts of the States that she hasn't been to. I will look at the other clip later but those people sound wonderful
Lindybird, I don't think anyone thought you cruel. It must be very hard to say no to the Dog on a diet:)
Auntie, you asked a while back about our horses. We have 2 at our place, ours, Clover, an Irish Sports Horse, who Alison (my wife) rides and does 3 day eventing (jumping etc). However she has a leg injury at the moment and has been "off" since May. We also have Nancy, a 26 year old thoroughbred who is "loaned" to us as company for Clover. So nothing fancy or comercial just purely fun stuff.
Having a great time with Mum. Hope everyone is is doing well:)
Good afternoon everyone and a very peaceful one it is too. Toys are all back in sheds and most people have gone back to work, school etc.
