LG OSPREY GABFEST

July21, Thursday 9:06 p.m Ohio USA; Friday 2:o6 am UK

BRIGHT & BREEZY, as you see I am acting on your suggestion to update THE GABFEST thread.   Btw, earlier I switched back to the cam to check out the noise you talked about, but by the time I got there all was quiet, as it is now at an empty nest.  Now, at 2:37 I hear a cheep that does not sound like an osprey on the nest.  Also another bird sound that I cannot describe.
SUNSHINE<  I too like it here at THE GABFEST.   I feel a freedom here that I never did on the main blog.  I felt there like my comments always turned out too long & if I wanted to vere off onto another topic I didn't feel I should do that.  Here, who cares?   I do hope we can keep the GABFEST going,  but there is no point in keeping it open if no one else is interested just to  talk to myself.  .  If the three of us keep it open, maybe eventually others will find & join us to chat about what interests them.

Hi Lowry - I know you have connections in the US as we have and trust all your friends are well. Mentioning Naples, Venice and Marco Island - just want to hop on a plane now. We just hire out our home between June and October as it is too hot and humid for me but generally go after October but this year going over next at Christmas. Fox appears to have most of the information on Irene.

  • Keith at least I have not been on the ducking stool in the ouse. I should be whipmawhopma gate. Most streets in the walls end with gate. Micklegate. saviourgate ,whipmwhapmagate.etc. here's a question who can name them all, I am struggling.

My fav place is North Yorkshire Moors,  a friend of mine I used to work with family have the pub at blakley or is it bleakley top..That is remote but no way as remote as when I went to Cape Wrath, had a wonderful holiday in Durness, Sutherland, the weather and the sunsets were absolutey wonderful. Even more wonderful on the way back met a postman and his wife at a Loch before Salen, near Glenfinnan. No where to stay and found a Loch and they were with their dog. Wife did the Glenffinan post and he did the Ardmurchan run .Drove down the Ardmurchan Pennisula, not a good road and stopped to let dog out and post van stopped and said you dont remember me from last night. unbelievable, that when I stopped the postie was passing

  • B & B Love your stories keep some for the long winter nights.

There must be loads of streets within the walls with gate - "Gate" was not a gate but a viking word for street (Gata) so all the streets named by the viking visitors to York named them gate.

I believe the actual gates were named Bars.

After I came to Scotland I worked for years at Faslane Naval Base - they sent me up on to that top northerly coast and was based at Thurso to do all my Nuclear Reactor training - I was there over a year but very young - A young Sailor Engineer up there was a novelty and I got invites to all the dances and was treeted well - great memories.

  • Do you know something I was never taught much about history at School and Keith I am ashamed that you know more than me. Somethings you take for granted on your doorstep however, I used to walk the walls regularly with my father when I was young, I and my brother used to think we were out of Robin Hood and shoothing arrows out of the walls. lol

Anyways all, this is a wonderful place.

Nitey all and here's hoping for a good update on Tore and Bynack soon. Really routing for them.

  • Keith, yes we have relatives in South Carolina, they will have been ok,most of the others are in Virginia and North Carolina, have been corresponding with them for the past two years as we all watch the same Bald Eagle cam in Virginia.I kept up with live news on WVEC it lookes terrible, but all friends were ok when I turned in last night thank goodness. Will see what they have to say later today.

Could just do a walk on Venice beach, lovely.

  • Horrible weather today - all wind and rain - think i might stay in and do some decorating .

  • Got some sun in ''sunny Plymouth'' but a little cold for August!!

  • Cool and breezy in Yorkshire too.

Enjoy decorating Tricky, will keep you out of trouble.

  • Lowry     your concern is touching  -  thank you - this seems to be the best room to spend the winter in.
