Hallo all. It's a brand new week!

  • 10:30  California time and just got in.

Thanks Diane for lovely seasonal wishes for both hemispheres. Hope you get some rain, but not what they're getting in Atlanta - looks ghastly. Sorry, no contact at all with Oliver S - he's just such a conspiracy freak that I can't use the word  without thinking of him. I'm sure he'd have some theory re UFOs, which are intriguing. Have you ever tried to pinpoint Area 51 on Google Earth? I think it's in New Mexico, but not sure...

    Signing off; goodnight/morning all.

  • Annette: I was just kidding 'bout Oliver Stone. :-) I will confess though: On the outside, I am a very rational, analytical woman grounded in science and reason. But on the inside, I LOVE a good conspiracy theory! I'm crazy about the outer boundaries of science: multiple dimensions, time travel, worm holes, the collective consciousness. I love it all!

By the way, you can, indeed, go to the original, famous Area 51 (in Nevada) on Google Earth. But the rumor is that you can see it because the government has moved all the "good stuff" to a new secret facility. :-))))

  • Morning all (10am in Finland) Another grayish september day here.

FlyingC: yes, it was a man with the leafblower..

    Alan: wind :)))))

Gary: sorry.... (blushing with shame...) Ofcourse leafblowers have their time and place. If you for exemple use a rake too much, your hands wil be filled with callouses and thus be too hard for stroking horses. Horses seem to like some odd stuff. When I was young (and beautiful) I saw some horses eat sourmilk and youghurt! I was told that it was good for their digestion.

    Off now, back later.

  • jsb, thank you for Scotland Revealed. Wonderful program.

Diane, thank you for Equinox wishes. Rain again today, 18 C temp

I had just finished viewing Scotland when our power went off mid pm. So not to waste time I prepared tea - we have a gas stove. With a casserole, pudding & Anzac bikkies oven-ready, I realised the oven is lit with an electric spark. I am fumbling with matches and kitchen tongs when He-Who-Knows-Everything takes over. No success. HWKE announces that I shall just have to wait until the power comes back on. Hm, I wait until gas and HWKE disperse, light oven at 2nd attempt. Five mins later, after 90 mins off, power returns. Ho hum. Now I have all the mess to clear up. . .

    Heart-stoppng moment ...

Local nuisance cat appeared on the decking under the feeding pole and leapt vertically four feet into the air, so near to grabbing seed catcher tray under one of the longer feeders!

Most of the birds had just left (saw it coming?) but one adult goldie was on the nyger feeder, still blissfully unaware.  Attempt was unsuccessful, so cat tried again, right beneath goldie.

Should we wait to avoid scaring goldie or act now to get rid of predator?  When it leapt a third time, we opened the door and it went - goldie left, but returned immediately to continue its breakfast.

    Happy ending.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • auntie, don't worry about the leaf blower thing, I thought it was funny and I like the sort of "going off at a tangent" conversations. Great comments everyone else:)

I hadn't heard that one about horses but it makes sence.

I'm not a great conspiracy theory person I'm afraid but I did like the X Files if that counts!

I don't have as much as a slightly damp bulb either.
