Weekly Chat, Sunday 3 Jul 2011

Welcome to a new week. Check back to last week's chat for news. Linda is spending weekend with Tomasz. Annette has been told to slow down . . . by Brenda who sounds just as busy! Alan has been wandering shops again.

  • It's so quiet tonight!  Plenty of time tho ;-)

No more fish yet, but here is a re-post of the 2245hr delivery - with all the waste-of-time minutes cut off the front :-)

  • Oops, I'm in the weekly instead of the daily :-/  Sowwy folks ;)

  • AQ: Thanks for starting the new week!

Thoroughly Blech start to the day here today. Didn't get to sleep until 2 a.m. due to fretting about daughter's friend in the ICU (he couldn't afford his meds; turns out my daughter had been springing for them fairly often); then woke up at 7:30, just in time to turn on telly and see Petra Kvitova take her victory lap around Center Court - so much for my morning tennis plans! (Will set the alarm for tomorrow's Mens' Final, which starts at 6 a.m. our time). Then went out into the garden and discovered the water fountain pump had stopped working; called the store and got a chirpy message saying there were closed for the July 4 holiday weekend and they'd get back to us on Tuesday morning (grrrrr)!  Then the construction crew from the house across the road showed up and started banging away!  GRRRR!!!  My OH called the owner and found there'd been some kind of "misunderstanding" about Saturday hours. Anyway, decided to abandon all plans for a nap in the hammock; instead, did some grocery shopping and other chores. The hammock is on the agenda for tomorrow!

Sorry not to respond to any posts individually; almost ready to call it a day. Take care all.

  • About a year ago I decided I was going to buy one of these little  portable voice recorders so that I could use it to record things when out and about. I finally got around to going out to look at them in the shop last October. Initially I was a bit taken aback by how expensive they were.

Anyway to cut a long story short I ended up paying twice as much as the first one I looked at. I have not regretted it for a single moment. Indeed I would have actually preferred a more elaborate model.

The reason I am thinking of this is that yesterday I downloaded a lot of my messages from my York trip to the computer. I have been sitting here listening to the audio recordings as an aid to writing some of the detail up.

The recorder also acts as an MP3 player. Some of the more sophisticated versions also have a radio.

My model is a Sony ICD-UX200

  • Ok, you give me yours and you can then buy a more elaborate one :)

  • What a scorcher here, 21 degrees at 1100. We had breakfast at local nursery, enjoying the manificent views across the Moray Firth and then again on the 2 mile journey home. Sat outside for a short while then decided the sensible thing would be to come in.

Like Alan I usually find the womens tennis boring but not so yesterday afternoon. Really looking forward to this afternoons match. I think it will be a goodie.

  • Wow, it is so quiet on here. I hope I haven't woken you :-)

Friend arrived early this morning with some raspberries, picked this morning, for our breakfast.

We are going to the bowling green this afternoon for a club competition. The male memebers versus the lady members, followed by food, wine etc. It is all in aid of a local hospice.

Annette, I am not sure what to say about your daughter's friend. I presume if he has no health insurance or means of paying, he can be refused treatment.  So good of your daughter to help him but he obviously needs some very expensive treatment now. Sorry that you are so worried  about him that you are unable to sleep. Is there an alternative for those who just can't afford to pay.

Tiger, I see Chloe has given you a solution, which would ease your conscience about buying a more elaborate model of 'recorder'.

I will catch up later as we are having an early light lunch.

  • Afternoon all,

    Very quiet on here today.

Thanks to all who have posted for their chat.

We went to fineshade woods this morning and had a walk. It was very busy with cyclists and a craft fair on. The hide where we normally go had a wasps nest which is going to be dealt with on tuesday. We went in anyway but nothing much around apart from a couple of grey squirrels. Didnt stay too long in the hide for obvious reasons and went for lunch in the Top Lodge cafe then home and now watching the tennis.

  • Alan   Was there a video involving Thunderbirds and ospreys flapping? It is just that Keith was asking about it on the main blog. I cannot recall it.

  • I did enjoy the video, thank you Scylla.

So grateful for our NHS Annette, I know some slag it and say we should all take out health insurance, but I for one am  so very grateful that's one expense I don't need to meet. I really hope dau friend fully recovers very soon. Oh yes, HAPPY TOMORROW Annette.

Ha ha ha Chloe. Yes, I can see how helpful a voice recorder would be, it' s actually something I've thought about in the remote past Tiger.  Getting down those details of birdies spotted whilst hiking and having a proper record to help me identify them when I get home.

So glad you had a wonder jaunt to see magnificent views across Moray Firth - I envy you that Dibnlig
May the women win and lots of dosh be added to your local hospice Brenda

Ah, a change from Rutland water today then Alan. I've always sighed over your many visits to Rutland and wished I lived closer. How long is the drive?

It's very warm here today. Very hot standing at bus stop at 10 am.

Chilling out this afternoon with a large glass of sherry and maybe some afternoon TV (not tennis) as a respite from floppin PC probs and grateful to be posting on Chat. Off to catch up with DU
