Weekly Chat, Sunday September 13, 2009

Happy Sunday folks!

  • Welcome Caerann!  How nice to have someone from Chicago,  Illinois.  (Don't think we have anyone there, do we?)

I tried your link to the peregrine but my computer said I should consider installing Mozilla Firefox (something like that) to be able to view the site.  Decided  against it as I like to keep things as simple as poss.

I shall look forward to your future posts.  Incidentally, I'm curious to know how you found us here??!!

  • Thanks, Lindybird.  Am off toot suite,.

  • Flying C & Caerann:  Had the same problem with the peregrine site, never mind.

Alan:  Will get my wrist smacked now for going on about dogs on the main blog! keep forgetting which one I'm on.....  Our dog loves the car & associates it with exciting adventures. He has been known to stand up all the way to places more than 2 hours away, in case he misses anything, and squeaks when he sees anything remotely green, as it might mean walkies.

  • Hi Annette, my Dell system is only circa 2005 so I think I'll keep it. It's having the Windows platform Server 2003 (I used to create websites) that is the problem. I've actually found my XP disc that came with the system but there is NO WAY I can face a reinstall of all the programs I use. Several thousand shudders!

For the sometime considerable future , I'm stuck with it.

At least I can track Mallachie and Rothes on GE!

Off to get some parsley for dinner tommorrow  .... later

  • Any members from Kent area been lucky enough to see the Crested Puffin

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

Would have been lovely to see it but I am in E. Sussex. Looked at the pictures on Bird Guides. com  together with a radio commentary who said the puffin had gone and hadn't been sighted again. Don't know what situation is now. Plenty of twitchers had arrived.

  • Thanks Flying C and thanks to Lindybird for inviting me to the group.  I'm sorry for the trouble with the Nebraska webcam site. The bird is still there, 90 minutes later, hanging out and preening.

The way I found the RSPB and the Loch Garten Ospreys was through a Peregrine Falcon, actually.  I had been watching the Peregrine webcam at the Xcel Energy Plant in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota. I then found out that same plant  has an Osprey nest (unfortunately I haven't seen any of the youngsters there for 3 days now) thusly I begin tuning in to the still camera images of that nest as well.

Further still, there is a online group attached to or associated with the Xcel birds called The Raptor Resource Project and someone from there posted updates on the Loch Garten Ospreys. I would tune in with all of you but that wasn't until mid to late August, however, I was able to view the lovely Mallachie and Garten for a short while anyway.

I'm happy to be here and look forward to speaking with all of you as we watch the fall migrations and then await the cycle to begin anew.

  • Hello Cirrus glad you enjoyed the post.  I wondered after I had done if I had gone on a bit too much.  I just like having contact with people who are all like minded and care about our wildlife.  Will go and see the latest update now but from the heading it looks good still.  Sorry you still have PC troubles but at least you can track Rothes and Mallachie.  Have a good evening.

  • Hello Cirrus glad you enyoyed my post.  After I had finished I thought I may gone on a bit too much but it is so nice to have contact with like minded people.  Obviously the ospreys brought us together but now we have this weekly chat it is interesting to read about other people and their hobbies and love of animals.  Haven't looked in detail yet at the update but it looks from the heading that things are fine with our precious Rothes and Mallachie.

Sorry to hear you still have PC problems but at least you can track our girls progress.  Have a good evening.

  • Welcome Caerann hope you will enjoy beng with us all.  Glad you got to see Mallachie and Garten for a while.  Unfortunately Garten was not satellite tagged so we have no idea where she is or if she OK.  We like to think so as she was a very feisty girl.  Rothes and Mallachie are doing fine at the moment, obviously fishing to their hearts content.  At some time they will move on again and then we will all start worrying about them again.  Fingers crossed they are going to make it.
