So a new day begins. For Star it is day 26 and for Storm it is day 20
What are the questions for today?
How many fish will Odin bring in?
Will EJ go fishing this year?

The first hard knock of growing up. They don't fit under Mum any more and have to sleep out side . Storm is also outside on the far side of EJ. I just saw a wing stretched over Star

I just cannot wait to hear the names the LG Team have picked for the two chicks, when will that be??? Maybe end of June beginning of July do you think???
My picks would be something along the lines of:
Morlich after the Loch in the CG National Park
Cally after EJ's birthplace
Drumuillie and Cullachie after two places close to Loch Garten (I think we drove through them both when we were at LG in May)
Lairig and Braeriach after two of the mountains in the Cairngorm National Park both of which are said to glow a warm red in the sun (quite fitting given the rich colours of EJ's two chicks)
Anyone else have their picks, my favourite is Cally though, as I have always thought the chicks to be girls and this sounds like a girls name.

Mary - I really like your suggestion of Braeriach. Morlich would also be good. However, someone more knowledgable posted a while back that they are going to use the names picked for last years' chicks (which weren't ringing/ tagged, and so not named). Apparently these are tree names (I think Aspen and Willow were mentioned?) A bit of a come-down after the recent tradition of local placenames, IMO, but ultimately it is up to Richard and the LG team.
As to when: Glaslyn chicks were ringed yesterday (they were the first chicks hatched this year, but can't offhand remember when - don't think they can be much more than a fortnight older than 'our' two), but LG chicks will be tagged as well, and that has to be done much closer to fledging, when they are as close as possible to full growth.
Past time I was getting ready to go out, so no time to check back to last years' blogs, but I'm sure Cirrus (among others) will be able to give us a more precise answer.
Rachel thanks for the info, I must admit if it is Willow and Aspen I would be a wee bit disappointed, I think the tradition of using place names or a name that relates to the area of birth place of the chicks is more suiting, something that sounds fine and strong as these chicks are growing so quickly. Trees can be blown down as we have all seen in recent weeks, so call me a superstitious fool I hope upon all hearts that is not a tree name.
All three were doing a bit of preening there, it is so lovely to see the chicks just doing what Mum is doing.....
Rachel - We found out from the website that they had planned to use the names Aspen and Willow for two of last year's chicks before ringing/tagging was called off, but Richard has never said that he plans to "recycle" these names. His usual practice is to announce the chosen names on the day or just before.
As for the date, I'd bet on Monday 4th July.
Morning everyone! :) I logged on to another prolonged preening session this morning - Storm has finished and is looking up at Star submissively, wanting to be brooded I think. A few distractions later (for me) and they're sharing the egg duty. Really beautiful, they are.
I hope Hazel hasn't gone totally nutz overnight :o Let's see what a good day's sleep will do for her ;)

Thanks, Sue. I knew someone would remember. Have to admit I hope they don't use last year's names - rather agree with Mary about vulnerability, and no, I don't think it is particularly superstitious. Really must go now - I just can't resist the temptation to look in on the family and see how they've grown overnight.
Morning all ... thanks for overnight pics and posts ... particular thanks to Hazel! The family are preening in the sunshine ... probably waiting for breakfast number two. I can't resist posting this pic ... chick showing off ts new tail :-))

Another fish delivery but I missed it, not sure if this is FISH 2 or not.
Have so much to do, laundry etc etc, and I hate to tear myself away from watching the family but I really need to.
So will pop in later when I find a mo!!!
