Morning all: Late checking tonight. Back later...

  • Lovely photos DjoanS so pleased they stayed around for you to take more photos.

  • Afternoon all,

We had a nice visit to Rutland Water this morning. Spent just over an hour in the Shallow Water hide watching the ospreys. 5R did not stay around for long but Mrs 5R was on the n.est or the T perch the whole time apart from chasing off some Egyptian geese on the shoreline. We were very lucky with the weather as it is a 20 minute walk to the hide and just as we got back to the visitor centre it started to rain. We had our picnic in the car and then came home. There are a couple of osprey pics on th Rutland thread and here is one of 2 juvenile Egyptian geese:

  • Alan glad you missed the rain and love the photo of the juvenile gesse.

  • Have posted this on daily but putting it on here as well.  Great news from LG.  Caroline has changed by pairing to I am now with a lady who has transport and will be able to give me a lift.  Also going to be in the forward hide for my shifts.  Has made me feel very relieved and even more happy than I already am.

  • Coffee time, so another look in here as well as Cams.  Mix of sunshine and cloud – showers are silly little things that only succeed in making it too damp for gardening.

Lindy – enjoyed your poem for Margo’s OH!

Cirrus – that extra sleep this morning should have done you some good, sorry you have not been sleeping well at night.  I don’t think honeymoon at LG would go down too well!  GSon spent all his childhood in the Highlands, and they will both be studying in Aberdeen next year – she continuing medicine and he doing an MSc in Oil Technology.  I think Dau#2 and SiL are paying for a week in Italy for them.

Margo - pleased you enjoyed seeing Rhys, and that he is such a happy boy.  How is his Mum now?

Joan – those Avocets are wonderful – and great photos of them!  You are lucky to see them like that.

Alan – nice young Egyptian Geese – I guess these are younger than the ones that hatched on the Osprey nest?  Glad you didn’t get wet.

Don’t know if everyone will have seen mention on LotL thread – they have issued a press release on this year’s non-hatching.  They also gave an explanation on their Blog, and have withdrawn references to satellite tagging “this year’s chicks”.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Joan - pretty pics of the Avocets - such elegant birds.  Don't apologise for putting pics on!  We can't have too many birds ... or animals.. or dogs..or cats.. or...

Alan:  Never seen that type of gosling. Nice and fuzzy looking.  Glad you missed the rain - I went to the dreaded Supermarket, and got trapped inside! It was lovely and sunny when I went in, but started pouring down as I went around - folk were standing in the doorway saying "well I never!" and watching as it cascaded over the cars in the car park. Really heavy shower.   Good job I had had the foresight to take my small brolly, or I would still be there, I think.

Have just read in the paper that about 15% of the population think that milk comes from male cows, and don't know that tadpoles turn into frogs - what if anything, are they teaching children in the schools these days??

margo - glad that your OH enjoyed the ditty, it was not meant to be too much making fun of him, I hope!

  • Afternoon everyone been out and about today but so pleased to hear from Margobird that they have sorted her transport issues. Why couldn't they do that in the first place as they new of her situation instead of giving her a days worry.

I will easily recognise her when I pick her up at Inverness airport she will be the lady walking 2 feet off the ground:-))))

  • Just been talking with Grandson#1 on the phone.  The proper title of his MSc at Aberdeen next year is "Integrated Petroleum Geosciences".  He will definitely be doing it as he just heard that he got an "Upper Second" in his BSc in Geophysics in Edinburgh.  He was a bit disappointed not to get a "First" - missed it by 2 points.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Great news margobird - just what we were all hoping for, I'm sure. Good egg to Caroline :-))

  • Margo - missed your good news at bottom of previous page, so I'm pleased Wendy mentioned it above.  I am glad that  Caroline sorted the transport issue for you - didn't want anything to spoil your time there!
