Morning all: Late checking tonight. Back later...
Did all we intended today. All the rain and sun we had recently means lots of growing going on – this includes weeds, so also did some hoeing and tidying, then some watering. Now having our 8 o’clock coffee after 9 o’clock, as I begin some brief replies.
Annette – glad your Daughter reached Arizona safely (despite detour!) and is with your Granddaughter and Delightful Delilah for a while again. No pickling, and only a few herbs for the freezer thus far – apart from rhubarb done last month! Restaurant OG only served leftovers today!
Kate2 – good to have you along – not so sure we are particularly amazing, just good at making our ordinary lives sound special (unless you mean Diane in the woods and her adventures with Tornados, self-stitching a cut hand and living with the Wild Things under her house!) But we do share a lot, as well as our interest in Ospreys, especially a friendly concern for one another.
Brenda (and those with hot dogs)– I remember a walk with Children and Dog up the Malvern Hills. It hadn’t rained for ages and was hot, dry and dusty – everybody’s water bottle ran dry, even the Dog’s, so we gave up and came back down! Freezing herbs: soft ones like Mint and Parsley – freeze unchopped and crush when frozen crisp; woody ones like Rosemary and Thyme – strip from stems, chopping Rosemary if necessary; others like Sage, Chives, Tarragon – chop before freezing. I use tiny plastic containers for enough for one meal, and wish I could find more of them! Glad you had a good Sunday lunch.
Trish – good that Mrs SH is still about, but not such good news for other birds. We have a Blackbird with what may be an injury from a SH, and often pigeons which look like they had a near miss.
Alan – lucky you, seeing Kingfishers – and then getting such good photos of them. You really are enjoying your new lens! Glad about Hamish’s good news!
Cirrus – good that you got back to chatting after a very busy week – take care rushing around in hot weather. You aren’t the only one who didn’t watch the tennis! Traditionally, when I was at school, we watched during the final week of Wimbledon after our exams, so I always think that is when I should watch – if I start sooner, I am fed up by then! GSon’s wedding is next month – in Glasgow.
Tiger and Chloe – hoping to see some photos!
Margo – hope you had a great time with Sister and Rhys.
Lynette – I hope the work continues as smoothly as it has begun.
Wendy – sorry about the blisters, but could imagine you striding along the Speyside Way!
Heather – good to see you again; sorry you didn’t get an extended osprey day – maybe he’ll go fishing again soon!
Diane – how you are enjoying your Wasps – you will become very knowledgeable about them being able to watch them like that. Thanks for your concern – think it is mainly about coping with the pain and frustration – with a bit of allergy thrown in too! Rather silly to book holiday next week, but will have to use scooter more and say when I need to rest – and at least I’ll have my injection appointment in the diary to look forward to.
Lindy – sorry the shower got through to the living room – not surprised there were sweary words!
Patricia – glad Tweed seems to be recovering. Sorry you got pulled over today. I know it’s difficult, but do try to rest a bit while you are bruised and stiff.
A few things to do tomorrow, but not too much as mustn’t be too tired in the evening to attend a commissioning service for some church workers. Didn’t go to church yesterday as they were having nine hymns/songs in the service – overload! So tomorrow will have to count for yesterday and next week!
This has taken me ages – with a break in the middle – but I have enjoyed reading all the posts.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Just seen how long that is - sorry!
OG Chloe has got some great pictures but has a really slow internet connection just now. I go south tomorrow and hope that I will have very fast connection to post some pictures of mine

Annette Dyfi is Wales newest osprey project. The last two years they had a male but no female. However they were busy making a mate for him at Rutland. How with a first hatching yesterday a new osprey dynasty is born. I doubt if we will ever see the likes again.
Thanks for all the good wishes from everyone else.
Oh, my stars!!! Hey, Space People, look at this!
A viewer using Google Mars (a program like Google Earth that maps the terrain of Mars) has found what looks like a large structure! You can see the video of his discovery by clicking here: Mars Structure
I don't want to sound like a conspiracy nut. However, I have watched the full video, and I have difficulty accepting that this is a "linear streak artifact produced by a cosmic ray" as the experts have claimed.
Toward the end of the video, as the image fills up the frame, the structure appears well defined to me -- with clear angles, which would indicate that this is not a natural phenomenon. Makes me wonder what NASA is really doing up there.
Or maybe I just want to believe. LOL!!! What do you all think?
Hallo All: Lovely day today; rained last night. Went to gym for modest workout this morning; had brakes put on the Honda and a regular service while it was there. Daughter is going to "officially" babysit Delilah for the first time tomorrow and is really excited at the prospect of having her all to herself!
Jay-Me: Hope the lack of birds in your garden is made a little easier by all the pix on these pages.
Lindybird: Re Monday Smiles: I was trying to figure out which U.S. state licence plate was on the car on the left in the first pix - my first guess would be Texas because they have some strange traffic laws, but that's just a wild guess. Wonder where that tank incident was too, but oh my, the guy with the boat - seems like he and his friend have given up on the truck! Has anyone at LG explained why they've chosen the new dating method? Your bathroom color scheme sounds very summery!
Alan: Good that Hamish has got the all clear. Hope is such a pretty name!
Margobird: As Wendy says, you'll likely find someone willing to help with the schlep to and from your digs once you get to LG. I'm sure the folks at LG are used to dealing with various situations; maybe you can enquire once you get there.
Wendy: Was that a 14-mile roundtrip walk?? No wonder you have a couple of blisters. Hope you're not too sore.
Heather: Had to make a special trip back to the store today for Feta Cheese for salad tonight! THen realized I didn't have any dishwashing liquid! Sigh....
OG: Sorry you weren't feeling well; sounds like you spent your "down" time well with trip brochures.
Lynette: Hope all the work around the house goes without any hang ups.
Diane: I've reported earthquake experiences on the Did You Feel It? page a couple of times. Our weather is very unseasonal - coastal temps in the high 60s this week and over the hill it's going to be even more cool than is normal for June. Huh! No idea what to think about the Mars image. First thought: It's a hoax; Second thought: Space junk (but?) Third, Fourth, Fifth thoughts? Hmmm....
patriciat: Aaack! Poor you, toppling over Tweed. Do hope you don't suffer any long-lasting effects. :-(
Off to bed; have a lovely Tuesday all.
Annette: Like you, my first thought was that the Mars structure is a hoax, and it surely is.
But why won't NASA just calmly and definitively reassure the public, "Look, folks, this image is a hoax." NASA has the coordinates; can't they check their own data and produce their own evidence, instead of wildly speculating about "cosmic ray streaks" and demanding Google's source image? Surely NASA's access to imagery and scientific data is as good as Google's?
Government agencies perpetuate these myths (if this is a myth) because they so obviously refuse to be forthright with the American public (about anything). Officials release blatant, inconsistent, and amateurish lies, and I wonder why they want so much disinformation in the public sphere (or are they really that inept?).
Re space junk: The structure supposedly is very large. Officially, we don't have anything on Mars bigger than those small rovers; it shouldn't be space junk that far from Earth. We probably don't want to know what this government is really up to. LOL
Good Morning Everyone: Dull here, and slightly damp. Things are growing in spite of the temperatures being rather low, now. There is slightly less bird activity in the garden, now that some of the baby birds have gone off on their own to see the world and all that it offers them.
patriciat: Oh dear - don't go falling over. Do hope that your back has recovered from the shock, now.
OG: See that you have been busy - do take it easy, or you will be too tired to enjoy your trip.
Diane: Loved the film of the 'Space Station', and as Annette says, your 1st feeling is that of course its a hoax - however - very intruiging to think that if it isn't , then what on earth (?) is it??? No way is it a strange effect from the lighting! The government do seem to like to be very secretive about such things, so that just makes the speculation worse. Perhaps its a way-station for the Little Green Men to come and Get Us!! I do hope they like bacon and eggs, because that's about all I have in the house at the moment, that's edible.
Off to hose myself down and start on the cleaning again (who makes all this mess? - there's only the 2 of us).
I dunno, Lindy. I'm kind of hoping those little aliens are vegetarians. Otherwise, we might be breakfast! LOLOLOL
Think they would find me somewhat stringy, gristly and inedible, Diane.... also, I would protest so loudly that they would think twice!! (I can shriek for England, as they say here)
