Morning all: Late checking tonight. Back later...
It looks lovely at LG this morning. Funny to see the youngsters preening
Hello Everyone
Wonderfup photos of the Acocets Joan - i've never seen them for real. How marvelous. You couldn't possibly bore anyone!!
Enjoyed the Egyptian Goslings Alan
Excellent news, Margo, so glad you won't have to walk each way. Won't it be nice seeing Wendy at Inverness.
Lovely video of Lima feeding her chicks Tiger. But the traffic noise !!! (at least , that's what I assume it is)
JSB - fascinating about the cuckoos. They mentioned Martin and Chris on Springwatch, didn't they ( of course !)
So, the conspiracy continues Diane ...... let's wait for the movie
I suppose I could say the same Lindy. No weather here either Just miserable looking . Rowan and apple tree tossing. Lesser black backed on neighbours roof and woody p on chimney pot of another neighbour.
I'd call it ''brightening'' at LG Trish - it's been a wet night . Yeah LoL, proper little adults the chicks now, aren't they. It's great to see them preen away.
I had an emergency phone call from my friend Brenda yesterday which sent me rushing over there for the day. Sans lunch cos it wasn't a prearranged visit. She was very low . Pains in chest which doc has indicated something about which I couldn't really understand from Brenda's explanation. Going over on Thursday with lunch. Have to admit I came back feeling low myself. My dear long standing friend is just not what she used to be and I can't bear the thought of her going into a home of any sort. Her carers don't seem to care !! And she's lost a lot of weight. Her fridge had practically nothing in it. So I took her shopping , mostly for ''treat'' things (DiL is supposed to sort the main meal food out. It used to be delivered each week, first Iceland then Farm foods - but now, seemingly, nothing delivered. ) I stocked her up on fruit, ice cream and biscuits as DiL doesn't think she should have those ''unnecessary'' things. Well, the ice cream and biscuits. What's life without a treat !!I'm not a family member so I don't always know what's going on . It's all very unsatisfactory. She used to have good carers but now they don't seem to do anything except give her the meds. They used to get lunch for her, even if it was only a ready meal 'nuked'. Oh Well. I hope I can learn a little more on Thursday. At least she was cheered up by the time I left.
Cirrus Glad you saw Lima feeding the chicks. It has to be one of the best stories ever. Yes I assume the noise is traffic in Central Park.

Good Morning ALL. Our weather is what they call sunny intervals but so much cooler, I can even feel odd spots of rain inthe wind.
OG, Thank you so much for your advice on freezing herbs. Well done to your grandson. I hope you feel well enough to enjoy your holiday.
Diane, Lovely to read your wasp update. I think I would be very wary on the day they leave the nest though. I would have all windows and doors shut.
Joan, Great that you were able to see the avocets again and get your lovely photographs.
Lynette, You sound so relaxed about your CH installation. You must have good workmen.
Margo, You must be so relaxed about all your arrangements now. You just need to pack, travel up there, meet Wendy and enjoy yourself.
Linda, Sorry about the water staining the ceiling. Hope you enjoy choosing your new flooring. Our bathroom floors are all just white tiles with bath/shower mats etc. scattered around.
Patricia, I hope any bruising from your fall is not too bad.
Alan, Loved your gosling photographs.
jsb, I saw on the news this morning that we should now pronounce Clements name with a French accent.
Cirrus, You now find yourself in a more worrying situation with Brenda. You really have been a true and caring friend to her. I hope things are sorted out for her and to her satisfaction.
Tiger, Super video on the Pale Male thread.
Congrats to Grandson #1 OG. I used to deal with the awarding of grants for post-grad study and am impressed by his result!
Morning everyone,
Thanks for all the earlier chat etc.
Weather is cloudy at the moment but still dry. I managed to clean the car this morning so no doubt it will rain later. Showers are forecast.
Haveing a day at home today so no doubt catching up on gardening if the weather stays fair. Probably watch a bit of the tennis from Queens later.
Just had our resident young blackbird in the garden again. Another couple of pics:
Fabulous pics of the young blackbird, Alan. Your camera must be as 'posh' as OG's!
Diane: well, I've seen the full video now. Surely, it has to be a hoax ?? The structure superimposed on an image of Mars. Otherwise it defies explanation. It's just not alien. Looks too much like it's been contructed by us.
Alan - a truly beautiful baby B
Great, clear pics Alan.
I've just returned very disappointed from my walk. Very near to our house there are fields that have always been partly crop, partly just left unused. Great for the skylarks etc and for all the locals to exercise themselves and their dogs. I walked round on Sunday and was disappointed that more of it had been ploughed so 2 paths across the field that made a short or a medium circular route had gone. Today I've done the full circle but now the whole lot has been ploughed. There used to be very wide pathways and vast open areas for dogs to run about - no more. In wet weather you'd need waders to get through the grass right at the edge or you'd get soaked. In winter I think it will just be an impassable swamp. I exchanged disappointment with another regular dog walker. It's always just been open land as long as we can remember.
I wondered about whether payments for set aside had stopped but I can't see anything from a quick search. I do wonder if there were active nests there that will have been destroyed.
I see from the RSPB website that Skylarks are fully protected and it's illegal to disturb nests but there's an exception for legitimate farming that cannot wait. Bizarre, it's been like that for donkeys' years, why choose now? Rant, Rant, Rant.......
Tiger thanks for the link to the feed at Pale Male and Lima's nest. So very cute and so wonderful after all the years without offspring when he was wit Lola.
