Daily Update. Sunday, 5th June, 2011

Hi everyone.

Many thanks for all the posts, pics, and vids on yestarday's thread.  Great to hear of Odin bringing in plenty of fish.  A sevenfer?!  No wonder his offspring seem to grow at roughly the speed of sound.  Super Osprey! :-)

Here's EJ enjoying some rest.  A truce must've broken out between Star and Storm ;-)

  • OMG I hope someone has a video of this one. Odin came in with a large branch and almost killed the family. He even sat on EJ who was brooding . EJ is furious and just took off!! She  yelled at him as she left.

She came back and furiously  pushed on the log and took off again. Odin is bewildered

Edit:  Now she brough a branch to show him she can do it too!

She is frantically moving the branch he brought and he left . That is a lady who is working  off some anger

  • Watch it kids  !!

  • Yes, I saw that Barbara - Odin does seem to handle the branches he brings in better that EJ though, EJ just brought in the stick in picture above (I hope) and dropped it on the chicks.

  • Re 'Chick Stats 2011', I am planning to make the assumption that it is egg #2, that has failed, which would mean that #1 and #3 hatched at 35.78 and 34.57 days respectively. If anyone has a justification for making #2 the hatchling, then that would mean that it hatched at 37.61 days from being laid. Approximately 37 days 9 hours 18 minutes, if we go by the official timings.

Incidentally the egg was being moved by Storm just now as there was some activity in the nest.

LG 7 days; RW & SWT nil; LDOP varies

  • I saw her drop the branch  on the chicks too. This time the chicks must have seen she was  furious and  Star made no attempt to  peck at her. They both just kept their heads down

  • I defer to your judgement JSB in regard to the stats.

Although Storm is rapidly growing perhaps the difference in size indicates he/she came from the third egg.       ?

Thank you for your time and effort where the stats are concerned.

  • Morning all, lots of housework going on at LG.Is this because the wee uns are getting more mobile and adventurous so the sides need building up maybe? I wonder if the dreaded branch to the left of the nest as we look at it is cramping the amount of space the chicks have to move around and EJ and Odin realise this? They are great parents and I feel that they do have the chicks safety in mind. See Odin has been showing off his piscatorial skills by night fishing!!

Son and new daughter in law just rung from airport on their way to Jamaica. *sigh* wish I was going to all that lovely sunshine!!

  •  :)  Su                       Fortunately Jamaica too hot for me but I wish the happy couple a wonderful honeymoon.

Yes, ''that'' stick'' is being a nuisance now - both Odin and EJ have had a good go at shifting it to no avail. I trust Staff will remove it at end of season

  • Morning all ... thanks for earlier reports and pics. Just had my first sight of a chick today ... EJ has been sitting tight!    #1 appeared for a comfort break :-)
