Weekly Chat, Saturday September 5, 2009

Morning; late nigiht here, just about to crash.

AQ/Teresa: See response to yours on the previous Weekly Chat. Thanks!

Hope you're all staying dry.

  • That is hot! Not easy to sleep as you say. Fans then only blow around warm air.

Not quite as hot for you on TI then Alan:)

Here it is wet and we will struggle to 20 today.

  • Morning all:

VERY happy to see weather conditions on Tracy Island updated - and who is that handsome fella with the blonde coiff?!

AQ: I saw something on tv the other week about the awful drought in Australia that's putting multi-generation farming families in terrible straights. The images were extremely bleak; reminded me of photos of dustbowl years here in the States.  AQ: I forget, are you near the coast or in a steamy part where that doesn't have an influence. And no a/c? If the humidity is low, the high temps are more tolerable.

I'll start a new weekly chat page tonight (or anyone else can if they've a mind to). I'm going to LA tomorrow morning; back Monday afternoon.

  • Hi, folks.

Annette: I hope that you have a good, safe trip to LA. I heard that the fires are now out or under control (although, one can't trust the American news media about anything:-) I don't know HOW you drive in that LA traffic.

AQ: Sorry about the weather conditions there. I know that Wattle has talked about long-term drought in her location. Terrible and very worrisome. I hope you both get relief.

Well, Rothes is eating caviar, and it sounds like Rothiemurchus hitched a ride on a cruise ship. If Rothes and Rothie ever settle on the LG nest, Tesco won't be good enough for them. LOL Seriously, I am so relieved that Rothie made it to land. I was so worried about the little guy, lost and exhausted. R, M, and G had better take a lesson and not wander too far out on the big water. I so hope that they winter in Spain (if France is too cold) and skip the trip to Africa. It does appear that Rothes and Mallachie are playing it very smart, and, of course, Garten knows how to take care of Garten. Bless her.

  • Hey Diane: Good to see you!

The LA trip is to a sort of  wake/get together for friends and family of the husband of a former colleague (and current good friend) who died last week. I'm driving our 1972 Ford 3/4 ton truck, which we bought from his parents some years back. His siblings had very fond memories of summer vacations driving all over the West in the truck when they were growing up, and were sad to see it sold. They haven't seen it since we gave it a pretty spiffy face lift, so it might bring a small smile to someone's face. Who knows.... It's a real workhorse and can take on Hummers and similar monsters that roam LA freeways

I was leaving today to spend the night with a friend in Laguna but there's much ado about new tile for our kitchen floor that have the makings of a prime time soap or a minor news item ("California woman goes berserk over mismatching tile: details at 11.")

Off to beat head against kitchen floor again. Sigh.

  • Hey, Annette:

My sympathies for the loss of your friend. So sorry. Bless your heart, you aren't meant to get your tile floor. Have you thought about hardwood? Laminate? Glazed concrete? Please don't get a concussion...or commit any felonies.

  • Hey Diane: Not really a loss for me, but for my friend who was a wonderful colleague - very dependable. Re tile, we threw up hands about an hour ago and poured a glass of wine and discussed options. Yes, hardwood is lovely, but I've had two leaks in kitchens and don't want water anywhere near wood. Right now, unfinished concrete and no tile contractors looks very good!   :-)

Seems like the girls and Rothie are in good locations for now so at least I don't have to worry about that!

  • Annette, sorry to hear about your loss as well. What a lovely idea about driving the truck:)

The tile saga sounds terrible. I'm sure it will turn out fine in the end and one day you will look back and have a chuckle about it................

Off to bed now so catch up tomorrow and have a safe trip Annette

  • Just started a new weekly chat folks - hope that's okay - we were at 10 pages on this one.

    :-)
