I think I'm doing this correctly.
Heart in the mouth couple of minutes there!! Here in Edinburgh there was an article this week in our local paper about the number of chicks that had been rescued after being blown from nests in the recent high winds. Could not bear that to happen to our ospreys.
Star out from under EJ
Formerly known as Barbara Jean
OH oh oh. I so agree Barbara. And yes, EJ seemed to take an age to come back to the nest. I'm finding it hard to watch - if they can just endure to about 8 pm . A quieter few days from tomorrow on .
There is no way Odin can fish in this wind. He was barely able to stand on the nest. Even if he did mange to get a fish EJ would not be able to leave the chicks exposed long enough to feed them . Good thing they have had plenty to eat in the past few days .
Hi everyone. Thanks for all the updates and wonderful pics. Haven't dared to look at my garden today yet. More devastation probably. Snow on the mountains and 70 mph wind!!! Poor birds. I noticed a magpie struggling against it a while ago. Not the strongest of fliers. Getting blown all over the place. No wonder Odin was standing head down into the wind.
BTW Can Debut be downloaded free?
The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it's not open.
cirrus I guess Odin knew what he was doing when he dug the nest cup so deep this year. The chicks are a bit sheltered from the wind
Interesting now that Star was exposed to the full force of the wind when EJ took a comfort break, it has decided that staying under EJ is a good idea LOL
Mum knows best
He managed during stronger gusts than these when Storm was hatched Barbara . So I just do think he'll be back with a fish when he can. My hero :)
EDIT but yes, you're right - at least they have eaten well over the last few days.
EDIT again, and yes yes yes again, Barbara - the winds were strong then, were'nt they - he certaily did know what he was doing when he breasted an extra deep nest cup and brought in loads of moss stuff to build up the sides
Hi QW
SU, good luck with the wedding! How exciting. Hope you can relax and enjoy it Weather forecast much better for next week.
EJ knows Odin is in the area and she is not calling for food. She must know that fishing in this wind is treacherous and no one is starving .
OMG Odin brought a huge fish. He just flew away with it . Looks like a rainbow, so he must have visited the fish farm
Maybe he has decided to eat a bit of it first to keep up his strength . It must take a lot of calories to fly in this wind
EJ knows he has a fish if she wants it
