Daily update. 23rd May, 2011

Hi everyone.

Many thanks for all the updates, pics etc.  Great to have sound back on but I must admit the weather forecasts and the wind I'm currently hearing on the LG cam, have got me feeling a bit edgy.  I can hear calls but they sound more like small bird than Ospreys (adult or chick).  EJ is currently awake, and just as I was about to say she looks deep in thought, she gave one of those looks :-)

But she does look quite thoughtful though

Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Good morning all and I have found you all, more by good luck than anything else.  I am absolutely delighted we have our first chick but when I first logged in to cam poor EJ was face down in torrential rain and gale force winds.  Relieved to read there has been a fish, what a wonder Odin is managing to catch anything in this weather.  I find it upsetting to watch when the weather is so bad, have turned the sound down a bit but at the moment can hear Radio Chaffinch and the rain seems to have stopped for now.  I have lots of catching up to do but thanks to all for the pics, lovely to have one of the bobblehead.  Going to spend the rest of the day catching up I think.

don't want to appear negative, but ..........  I suppose the other two eggs will hatch, won't they?

's Ok Diane. Yours is a good pic for confirming two eggs and the wee one.

I think a few of us are also wondering if the other two eggs will hatch .

We have been  spoiled in the past years  by all of EJ's egg hatching, but sometimes they don't all hatch .

Well it is beginning to look a bit grim for egg #2

There has not been such a long gap between hatch #1 and hatch #2 at Loch Garten as far as I know.

But if you want miracles. I have one here.

  • Welcome back Margobird!!

Diane, I just read on LoTL blog that eggs can take up to 42 days to hatch which is very very encouraging

  • Hope you  had a great time Margo , welcome home.

  • Hi Margo. Great to see you have found us.

Evening/morning all: Just finished massive pile of ironing and checked in to see EJ settled on nest.  Is everyone's live image a bit like Cinemascope - wider and skinny?

Yep, the video stream seems to have changed to widescreen format, for some reason. I've just noticed that the New Forest Goshawk video is the same (in fact it's even wider at 384x200=1.92:1) so I suspect the change is due to Carnyx.

Robert the Bruce:  Do like that Einstein quote.

Yes, it's a good one isn't it? I'm sure it was influenced by his growing up in Germany in the 1930s, when mob rule triumphed over both intellect and common sense. Somehow I don't think we've seen the last of those times.....

Will probably fade out pretty quick tonight; take care all.

You too Annette. How's the weather over there for the breeding birds? (and humans of course!)
