Weekly Chat, Sunday 22 May 2011

Hi, all. Welcome to a new week!

  • DjoanS ignored the weed but a great pic of the wood pigeon in the bird bath.  They do go in my larger bird bath from time to time and rock themselves from side to side so they manage to get all their feathers wet.

    Margobird

  • My local pigeons do the same, they seem to like to sit in the water!  Great pic, Joan.

margo:  Glad you enjoyed the film -  the first one I saw was called "Cat & Owl Fun" which has the tune of 'Dizzy' to it.  I can't copy links so just put that name in the Search box on YouTube.

  • CIRRUS and MARGOBIRD. Thanks for tips..(why didn't I think of refreshing??). I hardly dare look at the nest to see how far the swallows have got. They are a bit later here than on my daughter's farm in Glos. Her swallows are probably feeding young.

It's much too cold here for the woodpigeon to sit for long in my birdbath......sadly now destroyed by the wind...... he/she goes in for a quick splash about, emptying the bath in the process, and leaves for the wall where he has a good shake. Lovely sharp image DJOAN!

BTW CIRRUS, Matt gets new leg June. Tried it today and walked .....Properly! I burst into tears when I heard! How stupid is that? I should have been all smiles. He's chosen a black one!

The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it's not open.

  • New Blog: Rothes has started moving north!!!!

  • Thanks Auntie.

This is such exciting news and what many of us have been waiting for. Looking forward to following her progress back home.

  • Simple when you know what the jargon means. Shows I'm not jargon orientated.

  • Just read Caroline's blog properly ... skimmed it the first time as I was so excited. Extraordinary that she started heading north on her 2nd birthday!

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Morning all:  Great news about Rothes I see.

Diane: Stay safe! Maybe you should construct your tornado shelter around your bathtub, which seems to be the preferred impromptu shelter among some folks in the Midwest.  All the credit for the good calf count must go to the momma whales.  :-)

Tiger: I see you were setting the record straight even back than (about the Tibet/China time zones).  Are we surprised?  :-)   What!? A birthday?  Thanks Chloe!

Alan: Gorgeous clematis; not sure they're too happy here but I saw one just like it at the garden center last week; certainly stopped me in my tracks!  Hope Tesco was tolerable. They're opening some Fresh&Easy stores here - apparently owned by Tesco. One is going in just a minute or so away, right near Trader Joe's (a fab and very reasonable place to shop).

Lindybird: What a pain about your washing machine. Boo to that kind of expense!  We saw some coverage of Prez and Mrs O'Bama (!) yesterday, though much of our coverage was still on the tornadoes.... Seems like they got a great welcome in Ireland and, as one of our newscasters said about the Buck Palace dinner "when the Brits throw a State Dinner" there's nothing quite as grand.

Hey Gary: Nice to see you; glad you didn't actually fall of the end of the earth.

Margo: Interesting that Billie is obviously well trained; wonder where she learned her good habits...

OG: Oh my - do hope AQ lands okay; hadn't thought of that.  Thanks for the explanation of the Baez lyrics (not hers I understand).  If anyone ever has a chance to watch the Ken Burns special on the American Civil War, it's one of the best documentaries I've ever seen - many diary readings and wonderful photos - just heart-rending (like any war).

Djoan: That wood pigeon will be moving into your bathtub if it gets any fatter!

Do hope the UK weather hasn't destroyed too many gardens and veggie plots.  Gotta get on my horse and get going for the day. Take care all.

  • Well just lost a load of typing because I caught a wrong button.

Been catching up on todays posts.

This morning managed to sort out the main bedroom, the dust!!!!!, turn the beds round and vac ready for the central heating installation in about 10 days time.  Have to do it when the mood takes and OH is out so it makes it easier. He'll have a shock when he comes home, beds now in new position.   Must order new bedroom furniture at the weekend.

Eagle Eye thanks for the techno info, must get myself orientated more on the jargon.

EJ is feeding again and the wee ones. She's snuggled down again as that wind is up.

Keep safe Diane - heard on the 1pm news that one hit near Oklahoma City. You really are having bad storms over there and they are expected to stay until July according to the news!!!

What a gorgeous picture, Alan.   Mum always had clematis growing along the front of our cottage, its still there, has to be cut down now and again as it over-runs everywhere.

Liked Joan Baez too, and a lot of the folk singers of the era.

    Well done Tiger.

They certainly don't make things to last.  Take lawn mowers, I don't know what we do wrong but every 2 years or so we have to change it as it kapputs - try not to get a dear one, maybe that is the problem.  As for washing machines, Lindybird mine don't seem to last more than 5 years or so but were advised when the last one went to get a Tricity Bendix, seems to be going fine at present.

Margobird - so pleased Billie is giving you so much pleasure. Its like the cat who comes to visit my brother at the family home. She only lives next door but doesn't seem to get much affection.  Robin, my brother, has taken a shine to her and her to him and they are great buddies.

Finally got to the end of the posts, hi to all those not mentioned and for your news and pics.

Joan - love the one of the wood pidgeon.

  • I've just lost a long post replying etc to most of you.  Must have pressed the wrong button. Been catching up with all the news.

Thanks for all your news, not going through all the posts again except to say - lovely pic of the clematis Alan. Mum had them at the front of our family home and they take over somewhat but look lovely when in bloom.

Margobird - glad Billie is giving you so much pleasure.

Diane - keep safe.  Heard on the 1pm news that there were more tornados forecast.  One apparently hit near Oklahoma City.

Managed to get bedroom changed round and vacumed, oh the dust!!!! ready for central heating installation in about 10 days time.  Have to do it when the mood takes. All I need to do now is order the bedroom furniture which will do this weekend.

OG - love the wood pidgeon having a bath.

    Great news about Rothes and................

Well done Tiger, 12 years of forum writing.
