Greetings all. Sunday, almost 9.45 am here. Gorgeous pics of flowers & cats & dog on previous thread.Back later.
Morning Everyone. Having a last look at EJ, Odin and the Goshawks (I presume we lose them. too) for a few days. Hope the techies can keep to time as we'll all be biting our nails waiting for the first hatch.
I seem to have two swallow,s nests. They much prefer to build their own rather than use the posh RSPB ones I put up for them. They've been up for 3 years now and never used.
I'd like to know if the building of new nests means that they are different swallows from the ones who nested last year. Maybe offspring from the previous year's visitors? Last year's nests are still in place and look pretty sound but aren't being used again.
Unfortunately, one pair have chosen to nest in my garden shed which I am in aand out of all the time. Hopefully they will get used to me and stop bursting thro' the door every time I approach.
I'm now off to read some of the earlier posts and admire all the pics. Didn't get on yesterday. Delighted to see that Hamish has got the 'all clear'!
The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it's not open.
Tiger: I read that about 1 July, too. This is a very exciting year!

Hi quietwoman
I'm not sure whether the webcams are regarded as part of the RSPB Community site, but I don't see there would be any problem about watching them on the Carnyx site over the next few days.
Diane and Tiger,
Thanks for the super links on the forthcoming eclipses.

Lorna: Welcome to our chat thread! We talk about birds and other wildlife here, and lots of other topics, too. There are other threads where the discussion is solely about ospreys, including a Daily Update thread that follows events on the Loch Garten nest. We hope to resurrect all of these threads after the software upgrade. Stay with us and nice to see you!!!
Diane: Thanks for your welcome. I look forward to becoming part of your lively, friendly, interesting group!
Lorna Welcome to chat Not sure what form it is going to take after today.
All There has been a bit of a crisis in volving Violet the red tailed hawk on the New York Times webcam. They have decided to leave her on the nest. See here.

Have been wondering if anyone knows what's happened to BigRab74?? who used to make wonderful short videos of the nest. Very clever stuff set to music. This must be the second year without input from him/her.??

I think he became a father. I guess that absorbed lots of his time.
That is the thing about cyberspace. People just disappear. We had someone on my group who was a keen poster. Then After August 2008 was never heard of again. I often wonder what happened.
Look through the old blogs and there are lots of people MIA.
Quick look in before I'm off to church on Junior Church duty.
Thanks for your news.
Diane - thanks for the info on the eclipses have made a note of the sites.
Quietwoman - webcams I understand will not be affected - just the community pages. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure I read on one of the blogs that they are still running so although we will miss these pages for a few days at least we can watch the nests.
I too miss BigRab74's input but daddy's duties take over more so than doing the clips. Just like Odin!!!!
Back to catch up later.
