Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

OK, another naive question to you experts.  On 'my page' I could add photos and add favourites.  I'm not too bothered about adding photos, but wondered whether I should add the daily and weekly pages to favourites in case I have difficulty in finding my way in next week.  However, it is not immediately obvious to me how I could do this.  Any ideas?  Or is this not the purpose of Favourites?

If you want to save a link as a favourite it is best to do it on your browser.

Months ago I took forever working out what that "favourites" meant. All I remember is that it was very obscure and not very useful.

  • Have never used the 'Favourites'  button on the site as have all my best pages on my browser Favourites ... also, this helps get into the site sometimes when its being stubborn and I have to use the Back Door method of getting in!

  • Now let's see if I can do it again:

    Osprey to be moved

one interesting fact in this article which I didn't appreciate "A report in the Journal of Wildlife Management found just 233 pairs of ospreys in the mid-Atlantic in 1975. Today, Rauch said there about 6,000 pairs in the area." 6000 pairs (in the area) is amazing.

The report is in the http://www.jstor.org/pss/3800602 hopefully!  Now why did I get Osprey to be moved, but not JWM I wonder, hmmmm!  But will it work

  • Thanks for all the advice about Favourites.  I will leave well alone!

  • Thank you Tiger!

  • No pat on the back for OH re HW after all – but it’s not his fault!  Showers of rain are so short that we decided we could get on with some planting in the g-house with only minor forays to shed for pots, compost etc.  Now indoors for a brief coffee break.  Brilliant sunshine between showers.  A plague of pigeons, then a plague of Sparrows, etc  - it’s all going on here today, I think everyone is feeding young!

Five pages to catch up since I made a “proper” post  - not that I make improper ones!  What I mean is, anything more than one- off replies or messages!  So a very fast read through.

Annette – Pleased GrandSon has nearly fully healed.

Dibnlib – everybody sounds very busy right now – including you – so do take care.  Enjoy the new car!

Tiger – please can you tell me how to change the name of links, rather than copy the original url which I have been using up to now?  Also – how do you find a person’s profile page without clicking their name on a post?  The list of users never goes alphabetical and it takes an age to go through 42 pages!

Lindy – I hope you will be better with the new medication regime.

    Brenda – congrats on GreatNephew!

AQ – when do you set out?  Sorry, I thought it was not for another two weeks, but maybe I got it wrong!

Cirrus – well done with mowing ready to leave – we hope OH can do ours tomorrow – at least we have breezes, so it does dry fairly quickly.  Thanks for noticing sound – must turn my speakers back on!

Sheila – so pleased Osprey has shown interest at a Carsington Water platform – the reservoir is a known stopping off place on migrations, so hopefully a nest one year soon!  Lovely pics of Partridge – and especially like the Frog – we miss ours since moving 7 years ago!

Joan – well done!  Will have to add you to list of known techies on here!

Well, that was a quick catch-up, but left loads of people out – all posts and pics appreciated as usual – now back to work if I can drag OH from his calculations – got our first payment on feedback tariff for solar generation today, more than expected until he remembered rate increased in April.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG - Oh no ... I'm definitely not a techie ... I was following a 'script' ... with pictures and everything highlighted :-)

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

    Index Thread

  • OG  I now cannot find my instructions but I will type them again.

First get the URL you want into your clipboard.

Then choose the name you want like Original Goldfinch.

Then highlight the name by drawing the cursor over the name. You will then notice that the link icon at the top of the message comes up in bold.

You click this icon and a window comes up. You then paste the URL into space where it says link URL.

Then select whether you want the URL to open in the same or new window (I always choose new).

Then click <insert> and job done.

As for finding the names. Well your frinds menu is probably the best place to start looking.

For future reference the link to this post is here.
