Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.
Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.
Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.
Alan -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.
Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!
Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.
re: Software Upgrade
This is the way I'm seeing it:
Right now, our Weekly Chat and Daily Update threads are located under the "Loch Garten Ospreys Group". After the upgrade, our Weekly Chat and Daily Update threads will be under the "Chat" section.
In other words:
After the upgrade, there will be a separate section of the RSPB website dedicated to "Chat". We should be able to have our Weekly Chat and Daily Update threads in that section. We will just have to identify them as Loch Garten Weekly Chat and Loch Garten Daily Update.
Is that how you all see it?
Diane - I hope that is right! You make it all sound quite simple, by just stating the bit we need to know.
It would be terrible to lose this wonderful group of friends. We are going away Sunday, and back Wednesday, so I shall be out the way while it happens, but will I ever find you all again?
Got back late tonight, so a quick read through all the above - no other replies, but the news of the upgrade had me quite confuddled until I found your post.
Actually, just one other reply, to Patricia - so sorry about your holiday not going ahead. Will contact you soon, meanwhile you can "let it all out" here whenever you need to.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Diane Your explanation is good.
OG Yes this community is very special. I have confidence that we can meet and any challenges which come our way.
Lynette I love the pictures you post. They are so varied.
I think I will start a thread dedicated to the changes which will beginning from 16th May.

Evening all: Another blustery day here; no whale count (boo), but spoke to Mike who was absoutely thrilled that they'd just spotted the 100th calf this year! We still have almost two more weeks in the count, so this looks to be a fabulous improvement over 2010 when we saw only 33 calves! Hurray! Adult count is up too: We saw 534 adults last year by the end of the count, and to date this year have seen 677 adults.
AQ: Hee hee - wonder what Lady P would've done! (Serves me right for having just one handbag.) :-) When are you leaving on your trip (this isn't the Germany trip is it)?
Lindybird: Geez. is that my handbag hanging on the wing mirror of that car?
OG: Maybe I'll buy some of those "cargo" pants that have pockets up and down the legs every inch or two and ditch the bag, but maybe not..... I have enough saggy bits already. Oh dear - that's a very long wedding. Will you leave your son to celebrate while you attend Something Very Important then go back to pick him up? Hmmm. Maybe you have an old schoolfriend you haven't seen for eons who'll just happen to be in Glasgow that night and what an awful shame it would be if you missed her since she lives in - um - Australia and is flying back the next day? Ya think?
Cirrus/OG: That makes three of us going away so far this weekend. I'm off to Arizona to see g-granddaughter.
Diane: Aha! So the perp wasn't just minding his own business, but wielding a camera. Guess he won't be doing that again!
Sheila: The perp probably felt like a real twit, but can't imagine why he didn't decline the TV interview. What is an "SC" holiday? Can't be bad if there's going to be red wine! Oh dear, "see you all on the other side" does sound a bit drastic! :-)
Tiger: Thanks for Karim's pix; shame about Pale Male - didn't he have a new mate?
Margobird: Perhaps your sister has had the same thoughts as you and has decided to enjoy time with her family and a trip to the Isle of Wight rather than put up with all that chemo, etc. I'm so sorry it's such a worry for you. Good that Billie is around to make you smile! I'm not thrilled about the change in the software either, since I'll also be away until the 22nd. Have you seen TIger's thread about how we might cope with the effects of the update?
Alan: Good grief! You're going to be out of town for the upgrade too! There won't be anyone around! Oh dear, bad news from Zurich - wonder what happened to Carla... Those poor birds in Nova Scotia! Good luck with Hamish and his sock.
Tiger: Great idea to start the thread about the upcoming software upgrade - thank you!! I for one also have to thank you and Alan for all the hard-core info on hatchings, etc. on the site - I'm a lightweight when it comes to serious osprey stuff!
Diane (again): Thanks for explaining what might happen with the update - I have to go back and read Graham's note again.
Heather: Do like "bumph" - like you, I'm hoping someone clever will tell us what to do, which will be fine as long as we can find that clever person!
patriciat: None of my business, but please do whatever you can to go to Nethy Bridge! You are not being selfish - au contraire. Your OH will be safe with respite care so please don't take No for an answer. Tell him, "I love you dearly but I'm going to Nethy Bridge, see you in a day or so" and that you'll be a much happier wife if you get to go!
Heron: Fancy seeing you here!
Sorry if I missed anyone (Djoan? Wendy?) oh dear.... hugs to all.
Hello Everyone
Four Annette - Alan goes too - he's going to Betws y Coed
I'm hope I'm panicing about nothing then - thank you Diane
Patricia - You are not selfish. I'm sure you need a break. Your OH may even enjoy respite. Pack your bags and go. When my father was being contrary and difficult, the health experts told me they always take it out on their nearest and dearest because they know that the N & D will always be there.
Oh dear, changes. How do I know how many friends I have on here. If I made a list I might miss one or two or a dozen. Maybe I shall wait till I get back and hope i find you all. Yes, Annette, 'tis Germany & Vienna that I'm heading to (grammar!) with rather a long time in transit in Singapore. I have "wasted" the day making soup and copying photos to CD - a long neglected backup <sigh>
Hello again, I'm not a regular poster here but I do hope I will still be able to find the these daily & weekly chat threads - I rely on your information and pictures to keep me up to date with the happenings whilst I am beavering away at work. I will have to see about getting a new laptop (or fix my old one) as I do not seem to get as much osprey watching as previous - it was last summer that my old laptop gave up.
My sister was visiting the Dyfi osprey centre on the day the second osprey arrived & was there again on the day the first egg was laid. We are hoping to be at Glaslyn next weekend weather permitting.
Janet
Good Morning. This news about the changes to the Site has certainly shaken us all up! I'm hoping that although there may be a new configuration (a long word for this time of the morning!) we will still, as Diane says, be able to form new Chat threads on whatever Pages they leave us with.
Sunny here today, but we are threatened with clouds & shower for the rest of the day - and its quite cold....
Have been reading back, as not been able to spend much time on here for a couple of days--
Brenda: Glad your computer is fixed, even if it's mysterious as to what was wrong
AQ: Your trip sounds exciting - have a great time! And of course we look forward to an interesting Report afterwards, with photos! Glad to see that you have plenty of books to ease the tedium of the actual travelling.
margo: Sorry that there is more news of your sister which is disquieting. I think she is right to go and enjoy her holiday, though. I'm thinking of you all.
patricia: So very sorry to hear about your holiday not being possible. I do hope, like others, that you may still be able to go on your own, as it would surely do you good to have a few days away.
Sorry if I've missed anyone out, but no time to reply to three days worth of posts -
We had a nice Sunday, went out for a carvery lunch at a favourite pub - then had a cup of tea when we returned home and I just flaked out on the sofa after the wine I had at midday! Yesterday, managed to find time for a long walk with Buzz along a path where we saw dog roses, gorse, May flowers and lots and lots of busy, nesting birds. However many times I hear that wonderful Blackbird song, I never tire of it - its just music to my ears. Returned to the car and then Buzz managed to overturn his supposedly 'unspillable ' bowl of water! Put his great foot straight in it! Luckily always have a large bottle of water ready to top it up.
Sweetpea has had his first spoonful of Baby Rice as his first solid food. He is now bouncing around on one of those things which hangs from the doorway, and seems to like it. And I have had some 'phone conversations with him! Not exactly translatable..... ;-)
Have a good day, whatever you are doing, All.
JayMe - you must look out for Alan as he is visiting Glalyn sometime next week - or at the weekend.
