Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

  • Lucky you, Cirrus - we don't see many Song Thrushes here . Don't know whether there are less around in the north, or whether total numbers may be down from when Song Thrushes and Mistle Thrushes were common when I was young many years ago.

Must go offline for a wee while and then look at overnight posts next time I appear!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • How great to see the juvenile Thrush Cirrus- I would have had to look it up on my Bird Books to make sure what it was.

Oh Dear OG!  Your poor cleaning lady!   Will they send a replacement instead, for now!

  • Cirrus, I have just been to your page and you have written to Sandy saying that you are sending a friend request. I presume you did. I have sent one to him. Sorry I had to read your message to Sandy to verify.

  • Lindy - no replacement cleaner as they don't keep spares, especially as we are not in Dumfries.  If it is a wet afternoon, OH will probably do shower rooms and vac floors.

Now I really am going away from this PC!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG:   Just added the C' verlock link to my already groaning Favourites List!  What a great view of the nest there is.  Thanks so much for the link.

  • Afternoon all,

BrendaH: Hamish is very pleased to have a human baby named after him. LOL

Wendy : Nice pic of the cat. Does not look old at all.

Cirrus : I hope you enjoy your holiday. We are also leaving on saturday morning and returning on the 21st.

AQ : Have a great time on your trip to Germany. I must say you are very brave to boldly go etc.

Thanks to everyone else for the chat and pics

Been busy sorting out the car for the forthcoming holiday. First holiday since last July as we had to cancel the September one due to LadyP s sister being seriously ill at that time.

We have just had our first shower for some time but not enough to wet the ground and the sun is out again.

I would not worry too much about the upgrade as I am sure we will find a way around any problems which the change may cause.

  • Hi folks. Been planting out bedding plants into plant pots to have at the front of the house and also the back.

Finally decided who to have to put in the new central heating system, he has to ring back to arrange a visit before they can go ahead but all being well it will all be done by mid June.

Thanks for all your news. Thanks Tiger for the link for jsb - have sent a friend request.

As Alan has said, I'm sure we will find our way around. Hopefully the media and tech people at RSPB will explain how to go about going to the various places that involve us on here.

Wendy - what a gorgeous cat your farming neighbour has. Its a shame she has kidney falilure but at least she can get some peace in your garden.

  • Perfectly OK Brenda - it's all in the public domain and no secrets from friends   :)

OG thank goodness I got my mow in this morning  !!!!!  I struck whilst the iron was hot  - well, when the lawn was dry LoL  - also swept my patio steps policing up all the dropped seed from the feeder . Should be OK for ten day s now.   Fancy you being that close to Caerlaverock - wonderful !!  Do you visit?  Wish I'd seen the parents snuggled up together aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

We'er away the same time then Alan - have  a good one !!!

  • Good aftrnoon all back from doctor and BP etc OK and weight stable as it has been for a few years ago.  Just the blood test results to come.  I take statins due to the blocked artery I had a few years ago and they can mess your liver up but so far no problems.  I took a chance and let Billie stay in while I was out.  We haven't got a litter tray at the moment as she always goes out at night and during the day she always goes to the door when she wants out.  Found her as I left her fast asleep, probably didn't even realise I was not here.

Cirrus, Lindybird and Tiger thanks for pointing me in the right direction to georgetiger I hadn't thought of looking where you suggested, can never work out the easiest route to do something.

Lindybird so pleased your doctor has changed the medication routine and hopefully things will improve for you.   I was so pleased when I spotted the stills cam but agree it is a bt dark, should make it easier to take captures of the chicks when they arrrive.

WendyB Lovely cat pic of Tiger Lily and so kind of you to provide her with a safe haven where she can be quiet.  Kidney problems in cats are common, at least 3 of the cats we had when we were children passed away from kidney failure.  Hope you enjoy your trip to Elgin and are pleased with the hair cut.  Hope you are successful in obtaining Olympic tickets.  Tiger hope you have some luck with them as well.

OG and Alan thanks for the link to the live Caelaverock cam.  Nice and close but it looks very dark there today.  Love the thought of the pair sitting on the nest together, how sweet.

SheilaFE thanks for spotting the fish delivery, good to know she has had a meal.

BrendaH thanks for the update re the birth of a grandson into the family who has been called Hamish.  See  Alan says Hamish is very honoured to have a human baby named after him

Lindybird  like OG's  words that we are all being gathered together like starlings, looking for a safe haven.  OG sorry about the cleaning lady, she must have had a bad fall.  Do you know when you are likely to get one again if her injuries prevent her from working for a while.

BettyBoo how wonderful that you see red kites they are truly stunning birds and now seem to be doing quite well in some parts of the UK.  Don't think there have been any sightings in Dorset but perhaps one day we will be luckly

Lynette  great captures from the goshawk nest and Chichester peregrines.  So cute all those little balls of fluff.

Alan thanks for the update re the Zurich peregrine chicks.  Hope they will fledge soon.  Have a great holiday and I hope Hamish's sore paw will heal up soon.  Have a safe journey.

dibnlib hope all goes well with the new car.

Annette  pleased to see that grandson's problem is nearly healed.  Have a safe trip and hope you manage to relax a bit.

Have a line of washing out but having to watch the weather as there are very black clouds about.  Feels a little cooler as well.  Have a good day all, must go and do myself some lunch now.

  • Crikey Cirrus  you are really rushing around.  Our rushing around trying to get everything in order will start at the weekend.  OH wants to mow before we go away but may not be able to as we are promised some rain.
