Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.
Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.
Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.
Alan -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.
Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!
Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.
Hallo all; Quick look in - again! Went to a house warming get together this afternoon for an old friend who's moved to smaller quarters, then got surprise phone call from other friend saying her son wasn't feeling great and would I like to have his ticket to the LA Philharmonic concert at the Granada Theatre tonight - with Gustavo Dudamel as conductor. Well, got the call en route home (at supermarket) and rushed in to dump goodies for picnic with daughter tomorrow in fridge and point out dinner options for OH. Now off to wipe face and find something a little dressier than denim shirt and pants to wear. This should be a great concert!
AQ: Thanks for starting this thread too. Brilliant!
OG: Spoke sternly the mole this morning; then neighbor out for walk opined that I've got a gopher too, which is really, really bad news since they eat the roots of plants - they will pull an entire bush into the ground while you watch it! So maybe will have to get nasty if that's the case. Haven't tried Trucker Steve today. Lovely pix there!
Djoan: Have fun with your laptop.
Happpy Mother's Day to all who are celebrating it tomorrow (today). Have a lovely Sunday.
Dear Kids, Don't be alarmed, the world isn't coming to an end. I am simply taking a bath. It will take about 30 minutes and will involve soap and water. Yes, I know how to swim. Even if I didn't, forcing myself to drown in a half-inch of lukewarm water is more work than I've got energy for. (Which reminds me, I'm all for science projects, but the next time you want to see if Play-Doh floats, use cold water.) Don't panic if I'm not out right on time. I've heard that people don't dissolve in water and I'd like to test the theory. While I'm in the tub, I'd like you to remember a few things, the large slab of wood between us is called a door. Do not bang to hear my voice. I promise that even though you can't see me, I am on the other side. I'm not digging an escape tunnel and running for the border, no matter what I said a while ago, I didn't mean it. Honest. There will be plenty of time later to tell me about your day. Later means at a time when I am no longer naked, wet, and contemplating bubble gum in the blow dryer. I know you have important things to tell me. Please let one of them be that you have invented a new way to blow bubbles, not a new way to add gum to your hair. Believe it or not, shouting, "TELEPHONE!" through the closed bathroom door will not make the phone stop ringing. Answer it and take a message. Since Amazing Mind-Reading Mom has the day off, you'll need to write that message down. Use paper and a pencil. Do not use your brother and the laundry marker. We can't send him to school with telephone-number tattoos. Water makes me wet, not deaf. I can still tell the difference between the sound of "nothing" and the sound of a child playing the piano with a basketball. I can also hear you tattling at the top of your lungs. I'm choosing not to answer you. Don't call your dad at work and tell him I am unconscious in the bathroom. He didn't appreciate it last time. He won't appreciate it this time. Trust me. No matter how much I would like it, water does not make me forgetful. I remember who you are and why you are grounded. No, you can't go to Shelby's house to play. No, you can't go to Shelby's house to use the bathroom. If someone is in our other bathroom, you will just have to think dry thoughts and wait. Unless you have four feet and a tail, do not think of going outside to "water" the lawn. I know the dog does it. The neighbours don't feel the need to call me when the dog does it. Unless the house catches on fire, stay inside and keep the doors locked. Do not go outside and throw rocks at the bathroom window to get my attention. I know it works in the movies. This is reality, the place where people don't like to sit in a tub while rocks and broken glass rain in on them. Do not set the house on fire. Call me if there is an emergency. Emergencies are: 1. Dad has fallen off the roof. 2. Your brother and/or sister is bleeding. 3. There's a red fire truck in front of our house. Emergencies are not: 1. Dad has fallen asleep. 2. Someone on TV is bleeding. 3. There's a red pickup truck in front of our house. One other thing: Being forced to use the last roll of toilet paper for a towel does not make me happy. It makes me sticky with little white polka dots. In the future, when the tub overflows, use a mop to clean up the water instead of every towel in the house. For my sanity's sake, let's pretend it was the tub, O.K.? No, I don't want to hear the real story. Ever. Especially not while I'm standing in the pool of water you missed. (P.S. All Play-Doh experiments are cancelled.) Be good. Entertain yourselves. Yes, you can do both at the same time. Try colouring, playing a game, or paying that stack of bills on the coffee table. I'll be out soon. Maybe. Love, Mum
AQ Thanks for starting the daily and weekly threads. I love the way that this group has become like a well oiled machine. There is always someone to step in and do the "housework" at the appropiate time.
I have just checked the "Who is online?". It says 1 registered user (me) and 532 guests. They must be reading something. I wonder if it is us?
Tiger Signature
Good Morning All. We had very little rain last night, after all the promised downpours from the Met. Office.
Annette, Lucky you getting those tickets. I am sure you will have enjoyed the concert.
AQ, Thanks for starting the new week. Had a good laugh at Mum's pleas to the children.
Tiger, At this time there are are 9 people signed in and 201 guests.
Our church building is 75 years old, so we are not going to church until 11am followed by lunch in the village hall. The celebrations were actually planned for last December but had to be cancelled due to the snow. It is a small church and mainly only used on Sundays. The main church is in Battle, ( about 10 miles away)where the priest also lives.
'See' you all later and do enjoy your Sunday.
AQ thanks for starting us off and your amusing writeup to your offspring.
Happy Mothers Day to you all over there, we had ours back in April.
Oh Tiger, wonder what is going on. I had to sign in today on the Daily Update - every so often they ask you for it. But you as registered and 532 guests you must have a big house to accommodate all of us.
All quiet on the nest but EJ as usual is keeping an alert eye on things and looking decidedly damp.
Not up to much today, giving church a miss as its only a Family Service. It gives dau a lie in for a change. OH off to County Ground later to commentate on the cricket for those that are blind. Does this voluntarily up to two or three days at a time in the season.
Well, off to do some ironing and then a cuppa. Back later.

Hello everyone I'm back! Haven't been able to read all the missed posts properly have just scanned them. Thanks to those who realised I was missing!
It's been a strange, busy week. I haven't been feeling great, headaches every day. OH been a little under the weather too maybe we've got a bit of a bug. It's been horrendously busy at work with the two long bank holiday weekends. I seem to have been getting home from work and just lazing around quite a bit. Haven't even been looking in on the nest as often as I should.
Don't think I've posted since OH's birthday. I got him gift vouchers to fly a Harris Hawk at a local centre so we're looking forward to arranging that. I've been helping him out at the allotment more than last year too - better make an effort.
The last BH weekend ended badly on the Monday. We'd both been busy in the garden and I carried on while OH went to see his brother. It wasn't long before he arrived back to get me. He had BIL's dog in the car with him. She was a very old member of the family who had suddenly deteriorated badly. We went to the vet who as we expected said there was nothing she could do and asked if we agreed the time had come. BIL had expected this would be the outcome too hence him not feeling able to take her. Once the decision was made OH left the room too as I knew he would. The vet asked me if I'd ever had a dog put to sleep before which I hadn't. Previously it's been cats and horses. Thankfully she slipped away peacefully. I suspect that is the likely reason we've been feeling as we have this week.
Mia is full of beans as usual. She's out with OH and BIL at the moment. They've gone walking with her at Harewood hoping to get the chance to photograph a few Red Kites at the same time. I decided to let them go and I'd stay and do housework - none done so far!
There was a 2nd visit to our own vet on Tuesday though, this time for Mia. For those doggy owners among us - it involved emptying the very unpleasant glands that can cause a problem occasionally. For those of you who have never experineced this you should be very grateful. If there is a next time I think I will take a peg for my nose!!!
I'd better stop wittering on now and get something done but before I go
Alicat love the pics of Bobbie
Gary TT is getting more beautiful every time we see her.
Patriciat so sorry about Nell - Ive been there too this week.
Margo I'm so glad that Billie is so settled now.
Thanks for all the pics and sorry to those I've missed.
Well Said OG - and a lovely card for All. Thanks also to AQ for starting us off for the week - as Tiger says, "we're a well oiled machine now!"
AQ: Had to laugh out loud at your wonderful letter to the kids. I had years when I wondered if they were on a different planet to the rest of us - we had milk bottles which were empty in the fridge, but with the little foil lid placed carefully back on top, apples/and or the cores on just about every surface in the house, year old lunch sandwiches under the beds. (I didn't clean under the beds as you gather - better things to do!)
Dull here today and it rained a lot in the night, so at least things are now back to normal.
Hope everyone has a good Mothers Day, wherever you are.
EDIT: See you have overlapped with me, Trish. So sorry to see you have lost your b. in laws dog in such a sad way. I have been in the vets several times when we have had an animal put down - I can't bear to leave them to leave this world alone, so I stay and hold their paw - they have always just 'gone to sleep' peacefully so I feel that is the least we can do for them. Glad they have gone out today to get some air and see the Red Kites. Nice to hear from you, and hope you can pick up on your health again, now.
Happy Mother's day all you across the pond and in OZ. Loved the letter to the ''erbs'. Trouble is when all that 'fun' stops you rather miss it. I remember an 'emergency' getting me rather smartly out of the shower when one of mine got a peanut stuck up her nose.
Thanks for starting us off today. I'd like to thank Lynette and Alan for all those fascinating pics and clips, and good wishes to George re his health. Hope you can get back to tip top condition soon. Did you have a good hike yesterday, Cirrus? Hope you aren't suffering today.
Have I missed an update on Hamish? I've been worried about him. Fingers crossed that it's not bad news.
Have a happy day everyone.
The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it's not open.
There was an update on Hamish on Friday, I think, quietwoman. He is still under the vet's care for a while.
