Weekly Chat, Sunday April 10, 2011

Evening all: Been out most of the day; just sat down - phew.  Off to check other threads; back in a bit!

  • Have been popping in on EJ, and trying to keep up with all the writing on here - too many to reply to, today.  I did my Friends ironing again today, and we had a nice gossip.  Buzz seems a lot better and is swallowing all his medicines.

Here is a pic of my neighbours lovely magnolia tree, in full bloom just now ( our daffodils are still going, but coming to an end soon, as we are at least a week to ten days later than those of you in South of UK)

ps:   and my OH is OK - he is feeling so much better since they took out that stitch in the eye, and the drops are just an antibiotic to make sure there are no infections.

  • Oh, darn, I've probably missed OG. If you look in again, have a wonderful and safe trip, my friend!!!

  • Lindybird I adore magnolia trees. That one looks lovely.

  • Evening all:

Lynette: Will be fun getting those new appliances - enjoy! Clueless about Sri Lanka I'm afraid.

Wendyb: Your walk sounds lovely - just love those photos!  I love to hear stories from local folk about former neighbors - derelict houses always have me wondering who lived in them, the old "if the walls could speak," etc.... Sounds like you've planned a nice route for Margobird.

OG: Ten meals of rhubarb! The mind boggles.

dibnlib: Hope all that coffee doesn't keep you up tonight.

Sheila: OH's cycling trip seems ambitious - how many miles is that? I have an ancient bike that is really heavy and a bit small for me (I'm almost 5'10"), but don't like men's frames. Keep meaning to buy another one, but never seem to get around to it.

jsb: Thanks for handy reminder (to us all) regarding scams - I had an e-mail, allegedly from my bank, the other week saying there had been unauthorized activity on my credit care and please click here, etc., etc., I forwarded it to my bank's security site.

Lindybird: Magnolia tree is brilliant - my neighbors in LA had one and it used to drop huge leaves at certain times that were really difficult to sweep up!

Took grandson to doc today and he is healing really well; doesn't have to go back for another couple of weeks. Then I came home for nap in garden. LG nest empty right now; haven't been able to get the LOTL cam for a couple of days now....   Back in the a.m.; take care everyone!

  • SHEILAFE   Muckrach Lodge more or less on the edge of Grantown. Your OH obviously loves cycling, hope the weather is kind to you and you can both fit in what you want to do. Love the Lochinver area, esp if you have fine weather and get a good view of that wonderful mountain Sullivan (Know that is not the right spelling, can anyone please help?)

  • LINDY  Glad to hear that both Buzz and OH are improving

  • Hi Everyone: Really can't get going this morning it's dull, cold and wet in other words miserable. Will wait until later to decide on which walk to do today but I am going to reorganise my stick (wood) store ready for my next 6 tons to dry off for next winter. Having a bit of OCD it has to be stacked just so and in rotation. OH is allowed nowhere near it.

A stick in these parts is anything from a cut down tree to a piece of kindling for the fire. Unless it is a straight bit that was being put behind the walls to keep the uprights straight when the guys were refurbing cottage and that was known as a dwang. 10 years on and some of the language is still totally foreign to me.

Hope everyone has a good day and the weather cheers up as I know of at least 4 people who are on their way to Scotland as I type.

I like magnolia trees too -  lovely pic Lindy.

Sheila – your cycling adventure sounds great. Couldn’t do it myself but I really hope the weather is kind to you (and the traffic). I prefer my two feet to two wheels.   :)

It’s dull grey and cold (but not wet so far) here too Wendy. With the CH being off for the duration now I’m holed up in warm dressing gown with my PC cos eventually it warms the room up (spare bedroom)  . Good luck with organising your ‘stick’  stack.

My life is obviously to dull and boring at the moment as I can’t think of a thing to say about me !    :)

I hope you all have a lovely day. Anyone heard from Tish?

  • Morning, All:   Dry here but not bright - a lot colder, too, as promised by the Weatherman.

Have enjoyed all the chat & pics, but too many to put replies. Though I was fascinated by the story of Henrietta Lacks, Annette.

Glad you enjoyed the magnolia pic, here is another of my garden, just our very old Plum Tree and underneath, a Magnolia Stellata which seems to have enjoyed the weather this spring:

--beyond them, you can see our bottom of the garden hedge, and the countryside is beyond that.  And here is a pic of Sweetpea, (taken on our last visit) who is growing fast now!  - He's now 4 months by the way:

    Have a good Wednesday, All.

  • Morning all,

Linda : Thanks for all the lovely pics.

    Sad news for Lily fans...

Jason, Lily's male cub passed away today

Not a lot else to say at the moment.
