Weekly Chat, Sunday April 3 2011

Hi all: very late starting this - was gone most of the day. I saw Odin on the nest - brilliant!  Now off to check on Lady and, hopefully, catch up on chat!

  • I tried to do an EDIT and it didn't work.  Obviously I did something wrong.

I've just phoned the dog warden and 'Wilf' as I called him as it looked like a good name for him was claimed and collected by his owner yesterday.  So thankfully it was a happy ending.

  • It was nice to have a happy ending to your doggy tale Trish2.  Perhaps he just decided to go on walkabout, but got frightened.  It can be a big dark world out there at night.

  • How nice to have a happy ending to Trish's tale of the lost dog.  And your OH was so kind in trying to sleep with him to keep him settled!

Lynette:  So very sorry to hear that your OH is so ill, and in the Hospital - however, at least as someone said, he's in the best place - hope they can find out what is wrong.  Such a worrying time for you. <HUGS>

jsb:  Droll story of the bluetits, attacking mystery invaders!    v. funny!

Tiger:  Fancy remembering being 3 (& a bit)  That is amazing.  Do your remember being there, and what did you think of the sea?

TerryM:  Thanks for keeping the osprey poems - no pressure then, to write some more!!!    ;-)    Nice to hear about your exciting experiences at Whinlatter.   (actually, I see on reading back that I was so quick to type it out, that I put too many 'l' s in one word!)

AQ: Good that you enjoyed your weekend away - we are looking forward to some pics and descriptions!

  • Glad to hear your stray was reclaimed by his owner, Trish2.  Some dogs are great escape artists but there's always the worry that a straying dog has been abandoned.  We have a good animal sanctuary near us (Tweed and Indy both came from it) and they regularly get dogs tied to the gates at night.  Can't understand how anyone ca do that.

Sister's labrador has been checked out by the vet.  The tumour which was causing the greatest problem is now growing outwards, which is the better option.  Vet doesn't want to see her again for 4 weeks.  We're all very relieved.

Very wet and windy here this morning but may clear up later.  I'm waiting to have some stuff collected to go to the local auction rooms, so wouldn't have been going out anyway!

  • Tiger:   I, too was amazed at the ignorance of some of those interviewed -   4 pounds for a stamp?? !!!!  Am disgusted that they have put up the price again, though, and was already incensed that they had been crafty enough previously, not to continue putting the actual price on the stamps themselves.

Thanks to All who have been posting the wonderful pics. of the Decorah cam - some of us just don't have time to watch any other cams than our beloved Osps!  Do appreciate it.  -  & the quality of the pictures is just amazing.

Annette:  Sorry that your Grandson is still suffering, hope that they can sort out his infection easily.  You have had a lot of problems to sort, lately.

patriciat:  Good that your sister's lab is going to be OK for a while - its such a worry when these things happen.

What a shame that Sheila missed Odin's return - says I, who missed it, too!  I think we all felt that he would turn up at the weekend, and he did not let us down, but we do have our lives to get on with at the same time, unfortunately.  At least Heron managed it, this time!  Hope you have a better season this year, Heron, and manage to catch some more of the key moments.

Sorry if I've missed anyone out - there are such a lot of us on here now, but its great!

  • Good morning all have now caught up with things.

Lynette I am thinking of you and your OH and sending my hugs too.  What a worrying time for you.  Hope they find out what the problem is and are able to treat it quickly.

Lindybird lovely Monday Smile,  how on earth did they manage that.

Annette  laughed at your post about the oriols pinching the nectar from the humming bird feeders.  Where there is a will there is a way, craft little devils.

TerryM  sounds like you had an excellent day and now looking forward to your volunteering stint.

patriicat was sorry to read about your sister's Labrador but then saw your post and was pleased that no difficult decision had to be made.  Will still be worring for them though.

Sheila FE stunning pics of the eagle at Decorah with feather detail and the beautiful head shot.

trish 2 was sad to read about the lost dog but then read on and wonderful news that his rightful owner had been found and he was back with them.  How kind of you and your OH to look after him during the night, he must have been feeling rather scared.

Tiger funnily enough I topped up with stamps last week.  That is a huge increase.

Spoke to my sister over the weekend and some good news and some bad news.  The tumouir that was operated on is not showing any signs of returning plus one of the other two they found seems to have disappeared for now.  The third one has grown so more treatment is requited.  They are going to give her a long burst of radiotherapy, 60-70 minutes and she will have to have a cage made for head this time.  The soreness from the last radiotherapy treatment has only just gone so it looks as though she will have to go through that soreness again.   She will have to stay in hospital overnight.  It is now four years since she first had a cancer removed from her back so a long time living in a state of flux for her.  She is still bright but obviously not looklng forward to more treatment although she does know she does not have any other options.  One more appointment tomorrow to see her consultant and the decision will be taken then on what to do next.

Should have been seeing Rhys today but once again he is poorly.  He had a week away from playschool the week before last going back last week and had gone down with something again.  Has been vomiting constantly last night so it would not be a very good idea to bring him out as a car journey would probably make it worse.  Was so looking forward to seeing him.

We enjoyed our magic show last night and what good value we got for a £10 ticket each.  Show lasted 21/2 hours and OH got picked on to help out on the stage.  At one time he would never had done this but he thoroughly enjoys being able help out, only trouble is he can work out how the trick is done.  His stock answer when I probe him about it is "it's magic".  One of the magicians was a lady called Romany who  is famous world wide for her act and we couldn't believe how she did some of the tricks that she did.  She looked a bit like Bette Midler with the same outgoing personality.  Has won awards here in the UK and also in America.

Billy has been much in evidence all weekend and has been around all this morning doing his naughty bits which keep me so amused.  He was sitting in the sun which we had first thing but it has now gone cloudy which is annoying as I have a line of washing out so don't know whether it will get completely dry.

That's enough for my rambles have a good day all and take care.

  • Good morning, all.  Not so good, weatherwise, as Patricia’s rain has come this way, but OH did plant the peas early this morning, so can’t grumble, especially after such a good weekend.  Been busy, but nothing major – sent him to Tesco’s.  Must do some ironing this afternoon.

AQ – glad your weekend was good – looking forward to reading details.

Annette – pleased you had time to enjoy Birds and Garden on Sunday – I hope this week is not too busy – but that Whale count can happen today.

Lindy – thought the family in the smile might be getting away from the Tsunami, but then decided they were somewhere warmer than Japan!  Thought we might see some SweetPea photos today!!  I hope he and his parents were well, and you had reasonable journeys there and back.

Trish – so pleased that you enquired about Dog and that his owner claimed him – thanks for letting us know.

Patricia – news about Labrador is probably the best your Sister could hope for – and good that the Vet said he’ll see him in four weeks.  I hope your auction collection turns up at a sensible hour.

Tiger and Lindy – yes, we invest in extra stamps in March every year!  We wouldn’t be able to do that if price was still printed on –so those who can afford to pre-purchase are at an advantage over people who go to the PO for one stamp at a time – but then, we probably use a lot more and keep the PO in business!  I use a lot because of doing mission mailing every month.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Morning all,

OG : The information came in an email from Elizabeth Tindall at  Wigtown to one of the Facebook members. Sometimes this is the only way we can keep up to date. Some websites are very unreliable.

Linda : Thanks for the monday smile. Amazing pic.

Trish 2 : Glad the dog was returned to its owners. Nice to have a happy ending.

Tiger : Thanks for the stamps info. We bought a few books the other week in advance. Being Scottish if you know what I mean. Also thanks for the Decorah links. I meant to post yesterday about the second hatch but did not get round to it.

Everyone else thanks for the chat.

Started off sunny but now clouded over and rain expected soon. It was quite a momentous weekend with the return of Odin and 7Y. also an amazing 31 osprey sightings on saturday and 22 yesterday. 31 is a record for a single day since I started checking.
