Weekly Chat, Sunday March 27, 2011

Morning all; dinner time here - well getting close - off to check the options; back to catch up later.

  • WendyB - so glad you had a nice time down south visiting daughters and friends. Its always nice to get together.

TerryM and OG - Hopefully it does seem the norm when Hope seems to be grabbing one of the youngsters by the throat. You do feel for the little ones though as sometimes a yelp comes from them.

Couldn't get Decorah up tonight but managed Norfolk.

  • Just looked in at Lily's den and the cubs were crying for milk. Mum came in to feed them and Hope really muscles in to try and get some too.

  • Paul - great shot, you managed to get a closeup

  • Looks like its afternoon tea for the cubs and Hope

  • Paul- thanks for advice but we have tried everything we can thik of, we do have windows7 and other people with windows 7 appear to be having problems

Alan P  maybe you could give a wee bit advice on our realplayer problem.

i am fairly new to the "community" but have been watching EJ and her suitors for several years now and do occasionally contribute to the blog

  • Hi everyone

I caught this programme last weekend and there is a small piece on the forests of Abernethy which made me realise how precious the area Richard so often mentions is because of the historic Scots pines.  About 12 minutes in.  A word of warning though, the Grants benefited hugely from slavery which is outlined at the beginning of this programme.  Sadly we can't change the past.

Look forward to 'chatting' more next week when I will be on hols and hopefully Odin will be back!

  • Hi.

Lynette:  Fantastic pics from Norfolk and Lily's den.  You should be able to get the Decorah cam up now.  Its down to just 40,000 viewers LOL

Here's a pic from Decorah, Iowa.

  • mamma g:  Sorry its a Windows 7 problem.  I'm using Vista at the moment.  Its not great but it gets the job done.  Hopefully Microsoft get the Realplayer and Windows 7 issue sorted soon.

Emma Peel:  Thanks for the TV programme link.  Hope you enjoy being on holidays next week.

  • This weekend my friend & I are off to the Riverland, another 2-day WEA trip visiting Waikerie, Barmera, Berri & Renmark. Plus Murray River cruise, Banrock Station environmental centre www.banrockstation.com.au. [Check the Banrock flood images under their 'Recent News' for pics of floods, flora & fauna.] and Olivewood Homestead, home of the Canadian Chaffey Brothers who had set up irrigation settlements in California. It’s a small world, Annette! http://www.murrayriver.com.au/renmark/olivewood/. Our weekend will be longer than usual as it is the end of Daylight Saving. It will be fine & sunny with day temps in low 20’s, nights down to 7 C. Beautiful autumn.
I expect Odin and the Laird will arrive while I’m away.

    Friday Smile

    My forgetter's getting better,
    But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke

For when I'm 'here' I'm wondering
If I really should be 'there'
And, when I try to think it through,
    I haven't got a prayer!

Oft times I walk into a room,
Say 'what am I here for?'
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
    A zero, is my score.

At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
    Is, generally, me!

When shopping I may see someone,
Say 'Hi' and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, who the hell was that?

    Yes, my forgetter's getting better
    While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
    And that isn't any joke.

Please send this to everyone you know
because I don’t remember who I sent this to!

  • Good grief: Five pages to catch up with! Please forgive ultra-long post that follows. Had grandson down here most of the day; took care of his sore bit (poor kid) then his girlfriend picked him up after she got off work. Did not faint or even feel wobbly when called upon to sort him out. What gorgeous cards for OG! You are a clever lot.

OG: Sounds like a pleasant birthday and you didn't have to get dressed up (which I hate) to got out; of course, in California, we rarely dress up for anything. Oh dear, and I thought that barnacles grew on the bottoms of boats. Brilliant synchronised flying event - sounds like another potential Olympic event.

Diane: I found the position of the sun helps figure out compass points; of course, large landmarks (mountains, oceans) help too. Hope your friend's problems are resolved to her liking. Enjoy the big city.

Lindybird: Aha! Very important question re hammock/umbrella! Hammock is quilted with subdued green, red, gold, etc., stripes; umbrella is either goldish or brick at this point. If neither of those work, have my eye on a "salsa" (red) one. These are the kinds of problems I can deal with!  :-)   Granddaughter said tests on Delilah will take a few days. All okay today. Good that Buzz is doing better; must've been those Rich Tea biccies. I see a lot of cuddles and giggles from Sweet Pea in your future.

dibnlib: "gruesome" says it all. A good opportunity to keep upper lip nice and stiff while smiling reassuringly. :-)  Did you sing along to South Pacific?

Sheila: Re the site, haven't had a problem on here but I've been whining away that I can't get LOTL during the day (won't load), but okay at night when no-one is home!

Margobird: I've never missed work either since I retired (at 62). Was ridiculously hot today - a fluke - back to more normal temps tomorrow thank heaven. Enjoy all those shows and, of course, your visit with Rhys.

Alicat: See you mention the possibility of getting another Westie. Sounds like a good plan to wait until after your vacation - he or she will certainly be one lucky dog!

Tiger: I see a note on the Aberfoyle site that the nest cam will be up shortly. Not sure I could cope with all the potential drama about whose nest it is.

Alan: Just read TerryM's note about Hamish not feeling good.  Missed the original post; do hope he's okay. Amazing number of people on the Decorah cam.

Wendy: Fish nibbling your feet to keep them smooth?! Amazing. Did pumice stone go extinct or something? (Clearly I'm waaaaay behind the times.) What kind of fish? Not piranha I hope.   :-)

mamma g: Hallo there - do hope someone on the site can help with RealPlayer problems.

Emma: Maybe Odin will hold off until you're on vacation.

AQ: Chaffey Bros, eh? Must check them out. Have a lovely trip with your friend - and I'll try to remember to send your Friday smile on to ..... to.....  Hmmmm.

Hi to everyone I haven't mentioned; thanks for lovely grebe and eagle pix. Take care all!
