Weekly Chat, Sunday March 27, 2011

Morning all; dinner time here - well getting close - off to check the options; back to catch up later.

  • Hi  i didn't get out after all i went into a hoovering frenzy taking out on the carpets ect...  OH cleaned the top of the conserveotry roof i think that was his way of dealing with things, has EJ been around today and has there been any sign of Odin yet

  • I usually find that a good way to deal with things too ALICAT.

Yes EJ has been around, but not as much and not really expecting Odin just yet.

  • Sorry you didn't get out today Alicat.  At least you have a lovely clean house now.  We clean our conservatory roof about twice a year:  it gets dirty from bits which have blown around the garden, and the rain coming down from the main roof on the house itself.

Had a nice lunch with Eldest, who also had a look at my new printer as I can't figure out how to get it to transfer the photos from my Memory card into the PC.  He said that my PC is too chock full of rubbish and needs a good clean out, so its having problems.  I'll have to find the USB to put my camera on directly, to put on my holiday pics.  (I cooked roast chicken dinner with parsnips, sweetcorn & cauliflower, then we had plum pie made with the very last of last years plums from the freezer.)

Looking at TV's now, as when we came home our old TV in the dining room would not work - this is the one we use in the daytime to catch up on the News etc.  We've had several problems with the digital extra gadget we've had  to install since this area went digital a while ago.  So if we replace the TV it will be going on the Tip, even tho' it may be that the problem lies in the Digibox and not the TV itself, as no-one wants them now unless they are new flat screens with Freeview installed already.

  • Started watching the programme about the Japanese earthquake, very scary and not something which would make me want to ever live on a fault line.

My friend is recovering from her operation earlier this week.  The additonal upsetting part of this, is that before Christmas her next door neighbour was diagnosed with a brain tumour (I may have told you all this, already). I shall call the neighbour Stella, not her real name.  Stella had smoked heavily all her life and is now 63 years old. She recently began to fall over, losing her balance, and the brain tumour was diagnosed - however, this was found to be just a by product of the huge tumour growing in her lungs which was inoperable. She was told that she had between 3 months and 12 months to live, if she had treatment for the brain tumour. So she had that removed, and my Friend had been part of the team built up amongst friends and workmates to take her to many clinics and treatments in the last few months. So my Friend had to tell them that she herself was now to have treatment and could not be of help any more. Poor Stella is now in a Nursing Home and is slowly slipping away, having taken a turn for the worst in the last week.  My Friend went to visit her yesterday, and agreed with me that its best that Stella now goes quickly rather than having to endure more treatments and illnesses.  She is leaving a husband and a sister, but thankfully, they had no children.   Everyone in their village is very shocked at the turn of events for them both.

Sorry to be grim, but I feel better myself for putting this down.  It really does make you value every good day yourself, when others are not so lucky.

  • Gee whizz what a lot to catch up on. Ten hour journey today not helped by clock changes. So unpacked dinner cooked washing on and bed calling. See you all tomorrow.

Alicat...so sorry it is always such a heartbreak. I don't cope to well and am not allowed pets of my own anymore.

  • Went to see photographer friend this afternoon to try out with the Canon extender.  Found out that it isn’t compatible with my Sigma lens – electronics would be fine, but mechanically it doesn’t fit – by about 1mm!  He suggested that, since I don’t want to try to sell my pictures, I am getting good enough magnification and quality working the way I do.  Continued down to the shore when we left, but decided not to wait for the tide – it takes a long time coming because the sands are quite flat, then when it comes it is quite sudden – so only saw a large Duck and a Curlew.  Supervised the planting of recent purchases when we came home, then had to water some plants in containers!  Quite tired this evening – had a disturbed night, probably just because we were so late to bed.

    Thanks for all today’s posts.

Terry – thanks for birthday wishes – will keep them till Thursday!!

Diane – photo comp is not till April!  Entries from 2nd April, results end of that month.  It’s also next month that we go up north – to near Daughter first, then to Grantown, middle of the month.

Dibnlib – used to listen to Hinge and Bracket on radio, then on television.  Saw them live at Harrogate – really good – last year bought a boxed set of DVD’s of TV series and some live material from Harrogate and Buxton.  Patrick died, but I think George is still alive.

Lynette – pleased you had the opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of your church lunch this time – maybe you can arrange for more sports fixtures for your OH!

Alicat – maybe best that you worked out some of your feelings on housework rather than trying to persuade yourself you were taking your mind off your grief by going out.  The pain will go, but be patient with yourself.

Lindy – I thought your Eldest had already cleared out some of your computer rubbish for you – what have you been doing to it?!  Sorry about your friend’s neighbour, who you had mentioned in less detail.  Must have been very difficult for your friend to visit her – and to say how she felt about her prognosis and decline.

Wendy – welcome back – to our chat and to home!  I hope Speyside will have good weather for your Daughter -  Son just told me that locals are still expecting a “lambing storm” next week, but I said I thought that was what came , early, two weeks ago!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi everyone

Thanks for all the news. not much to report my end

Alicat, so sorry to read about Casper. As others have said, you did everything, and more, for him. In time to come, I hope you will look back and only have fond memories. I enjoyed all the pictures you posted of him, he was such a character:))

Linda, very sorry to read about your friends as well. I agree about trying to make the most of each day. It's easy to say and hard to do, we all get wrapped up in life.

AQ, love the photo's of the cats:)

  • Lindybird - sorry to hear about your friends and their problems. It sounds as though it would be better if "Stell" slipped away sooner rather than suffering.

Alicat - glad you could take it out on your carpets and OH on the conservatory roof - its always better to find something to do when a blow like thats hits you.

See that Sam and Brianne won the Dancing on Ice title - he was by far the best contender despite some downs during the last few weeks.

Must look in on the barn owls. LG looks peaceful in the night sky. Will Odin arrive tomorrow?

  • Just looked in at Hilton Head and osprey there and egg!!
