This is pic of new arrival here at osprey hq - yellow / black 78 left leg I think. Will try to confirm. Are there any records on your spreadsheet?
Many thanks

A bit dark but this new osprey same as post above- with fish
Val, I'm already in awe of you for having your "own" osprey nest and I'm thrilled that you share the news with us on this forum. Now you're giving us great ID on your sightings and photos that show us that, unless you've got the Hubble Space Telescope, you must be getting spectacularly good views of these magnificent birds. Thank you so much!!
Val That is a great picture.
Your query got me thinking. I have been thinking of trying to see if any of the intruding ospreys at Loch Garten have shown up later. One in particular caught my attention and that was Red 7J. Now for some reason it did not immediately click with me that we know Red 7J very well but by the name of Nimrod.
Back in early August 2003 Red 7J intruded on Henry and EJ for three days. Red 7J was only a two year old at the time and thus more evidence that ospreys come back as two year olds.
So Nimrod is another bird with Loch Garten connections.

Val What a beauty your new visitor is, and I hope you can confirm the ID. There's nothing close to Yellow/black 78 on the spreadsheet, which I've been updating to show the returned birds.
However, it still rang a bell. Black on yellow is used for osprey ringing in Spain, and I remembered this recent report of the ringing of a wintering bird in Asturias by Jose Manuel Sayago, who works on the reintroduction project in Andalucia. The ring number used was yellow/black 82 - so had he previously used 78? However, just to confuse matters, it seems that the Spanish usually put the colour ring on the right leg.
If you do manage to get the ID, I expect you know Roy Dennis is the contact.
Sue C. Are you on Twitter? Val has some new fascinating thinking on this problem. :)
Talking of yellow ringed Osprey ringing in Spain. See updated blog from Aberfoyle with details on their female
