Weekly Chat, Sunday March 13, 2011

Evening all: Been out all day; now starting to think about dinner.  Back later to catch up.

  • Please excuse me if I get in a practice for when I'm snapping the nest -  I've forgotten how I go about it so here's a snap (hopefully) of the Bald Eagle at Two Harbors incubating her two eggs.

  • Good Morning ALL. Misty, cloudy morning. Forecast says to expect to remain cloudy all day, with no repeat of yesterday's sunshine.

OG, I hope that is the end of any problems with the solar panels. I won't try to comment on why the panels are not earthed, but did think that they would be, so obviously I don't understand. I did laugh at your control panel being in German though.

Annette, How mean of you , not to take some carrots for Molly.  :-)    I noticed that you didn't meet your talkative friend.

I hope Wendy was able to get away on her trip South.

I need to go food shopping this morning. Nothing else planned.

  • Misty but bright – we are generating again.

Son phoned – spent the day in bed yesterday and feels much better – why did it take him a week to do that?  Tried to start his car this morning – belt has frozen again and repair might have to wait until his service and MoT booked in for next Tuesday – will need to go to jobcentre appt in Inverness by bus Monday.

Lynette – thanks for your posts last night – hope your tiredness is not a precursor to an infection.  Those Bobbleheads are so cute.

Annette – does your Grandson still live at home with his Mum, or in a place of his own?  Sorry Miss Molly was not very interested in the no-carrots visit!  Good that the countryside is wearing its spring clothing of emerald green and the beginnings of wildflowers.  Workmen seemed to get on with a very efficient neat job yesterday, once they actually got down to it!

Diane and Annette – rolling news does us no favours in a crisis situation – such as not knowing which fire/explosion/evacuation/return is being referred to!  Our BBC News24 has so much split screening of old news and doesn’t change the running strap often enough that we are even more confused!  I think old news should be totally purged every hour, to give us some idea of the immediate situation.

Good morning, Cirrus, looks like you are now fully up and running and poised for action in 9 days time!

Brenda – me too, I thought everything needed to be earthed – Inverter itself is, but panels are of course DC rather than AC, so maybe that is the difference – OH accepted the explanation, so I am taking his word for it!  Whole installation is German manufacture.

I hope Wendy got underway at 4:30am – she’ll be passing near here very soon on the motorway!

Local Museum opened last week for 2011 season so going to look at its treasures this morning, then need to bake a cake this afternoon for OH’s birthday tomorrow – chocolate cake by request.  Have a good day, all.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Got the timeout message.  When I checked, my post wasn't there, so sent again.  Apologies if it now appears twice!!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Paul, yes sunflower hearts are really popular, I always feed them separately too. These days I buy the chips as there is a lot more waste with the whole ones. The Goldfinches even prefer them to nyjer.

Nice capture of our EJ :)

    Tiger great video link, thanks.

  • OG your lovely picture reminded me.

Here are a couple of pics my beautiful Amaryllis in bloom

  • Sometimes out of tragedy can come something  remarkable. All you dog lovers will love this video.

See  Japanese dog refuses to leave friend behind.

It reminds me of Greyfriars Bobby

and another lovely story of  Hachikō

Glad you all enjoyed the osprey videos.

    Chloe    Those are lovely amaryllises.

  • Morning all,

Patriciat : Sorry to hear you have been unwell. I hope you will be better soon.

OG : I am glad you got your solar heating fixed.

Lynette: Thanks for all the pics.

Cirrus: Thanks for the Two Harbours screenshot.

Chloe : Lovely Amyrillus pics. Our Clivia is almost flowering in the conservatory. Will post a pic when it is out.

Tiger: great clip of Japanese dogs.

Thanks to everyone else for the chat etc.  A warm welcome to new members as I see we are up to 405 now.

Another miserable day here with fog this morning. Current temp. is 6.5c. Took Hamish to vets this morning and he got the sign off. Just need to keep up the eye treatment and gradually come off the steroids.

Brighton peregrines cam is live now:

  • Did anyone else hear on the news that the British ambassador in Japan would not sign the papers for the British rescue teams to go into the area to try and save people because the British government would then be responsible for them if anything happened surely if the rescuers are willing to put their lives on the line to help people in distress the government should back them to the hilt. The last I heard the teams were on their way back home.

Patriciat sorry to hear that you have been laid low with all your problems this is something you could do without. OG glad you have eventually got you solar panels sorted out. Tiger the dogs video shows that dogs are not only mans best friend but also loyal to other dogs.

This morning it was a pleasure to go out walking as it was dry and now we have the sun shining

Thanks to all for the chat and pictures and hope all have a good day

    george g

  • I totally agree with you GeorgeG. Who else do they expect to be responsible for them? Then in the next breath Cameron says the British embassy is doing a great job. Jobs for his schoolboy mates more like.

Now to something that doesn't make me angry.
