Evening all: Been out all day; now starting to think about dinner. Back later to catch up.
Unknown said: Good Afternoon All, Diane, Thanks for the advice and links. I would have to check if we would be allowed to just buy the tablets here. I have just read a question from a person on the internet, asking where she can buy the tablets as she had tried all the main chemists and local herbalists and had been told they do not stock them. Only advice she was given on internet was to try Amazon. I will have to talk to my daughter.
Good Afternoon All,
Diane, Thanks for the advice and links.
Brenda: There are three potassium iodide products that have been approved by the FDA (the U.S. government regulatory agency). In the U.S., the product does not require a doctor's prescription. They are:
iosat It can be purchased from the manufacturer here: http://www.anbex.com/ They ship internationally for a minimal fee.
ThyroSafe https://www.thyrosafe.com/order.asp
ThyroShield http://www.thyroshield.com/
Amazon U.S. sells iosat, but they are out of supply right now. You can also buy perfectly good generic potassium iodide tablets on the internet from reputable sellers of vitamins and nutritional supplements. In the U.S., pharmacists/chemists can order it for you. Make sure you buy potassium iodide and not plain iodine supplements.
People who take thyroid or blood pressure medications and/or diuretics should not take this product without checking with their doctors. They could take in too much potassium. Hope this answers your question.
Evening all: In the garden most of the day - did a bit of rearranging and repotted some plants.
Tiger: Yes, put the clocks forward last night and then, realizing how late it was, promptly went to bed! :-) It's nice that phones, computers and the cable service are automatically updated; that just leaves the oven, the microwave, the coffee pot, the cars, and all the clocks!
Chloe: We had all kinds of crops sprouting under our feeder when it was over soil. I don't know if the "no mess/no waste" birdfood is any tidier, but I've bought a package and plan to use it when the old stuff is gone. When we started the landscaping project, I moved the feeders over a concrete pathway where it's still very messy, but at least nothing is growing.
Diane:Got it! Milk, cereal, wine, and Potassium Iodide. Thanks for the info on where to get it and what to look for. CNN.com is reporting another blast at that Japanese nuclear plant. Wonderful. :-(
Auntie:Hope spring doesn't dilly-dally on the way to your town!
dibnlib:I echo others' sentiments. Do take care!
Alan: Thanks for eaglet pix. It's all mouth! Nice that your favorite dog won Crufts.
Lynette: Nose has been feeling fairly normal all day; though that brick has shown up again this evening; maybe time for another antihistamine? (Probably doesn't help when I've spent the day out in the garden!)
Thanks ALL for pix and posts. Busy week ahead so think I'll head off to bed. Have a good Monday.
Annette: I edited my post to Brenda, after doing more research. See above. I've been doing some reading on this because I just realized that there are several nuclear reactors on the Illinois border (very close to me). And they're all built near the New Madrid Earthquake fault.
I hope you can control your allergy. Not good having a brick on your nose! Glad that you found a lovely, inexpensive stand for your hammock, and congrats on your frying pan. I miss my TJ Maxx store. I bought my last frying pan there, too.
Tiger: Yes, indeedy, I moved the clocks up. Seemed a long time before sunset tonight.Chloe: Sorry, I don't have any info about birdseed mixes. Good luck.dibnlib: Take care of yourself!Alan and Lynette: Thanks for pics!
OG: I hope you're feeling better!!! Also, hope that your son is continuing his progress. I'll send you an email in the next couple of days.
Sorry my last two posts have been depressing, all.

ALAN tried to post yesterday to say thanks for the wonderful pic of the tiny baby with the big big mouth.
I am now going to have a rant at myself. How on earth did I forget the the final day of Crufts was on More 4. I watched "Dancing on Ice" and didn't give Crufts a second thought. Now to compound my felony I see a Flat Coated Retiever won. What a beaut, just wish I had seen it in action instead of just stills!!!!!
Cold start but very sunny so soon warming up. Mostly domestic stuff today - just a short local expedition later for fresh veg and milk.
Lynette – birds here are definitely pairing up too – and singing started at 4:30 this morning!
Annette – pleased you had a good day gardening. The number of clocks we have to alter just shows how our lives are ruled by time. And we actually lose two hours, one to time shift and one to go round the house checking clocks! Then in autumn, we can’t take advantage of our extra hour because that too is lost in changing them! I’m taking my anti-histamines regularly night and morning now, reserving the midday one to add in when things get a bit worse. Take care during your “busy week” – what’s new?!
Chloe – I think you were the originator of the question about no-grow seed. We use RSPB No-Mess seed. With no whole sunflower seeds, they are not viable to grow, and the other seeds also seem to germinate less. Our feeders are now on the decking where we can sweep up a bit more easily than when they were over soil, although it is possible we have a patch of seedlings under the boards!
Dianne – looking forward to your email. Still very weary – but seem to be sleeping better now, had a very good night last night. Son is being dragged down by his cold and infection so am phoning daily, which doesn’t really do me much good! Also spoke to Daughter#2 yesterday; her puppies are now “little dogs” and causing havoc in the garden; Grandson#1 (the geo-physicist) has recently returned from a uni field trip to Texas – connected with alternative fuels. Whose baby is that, giving us the Monday smile!?
Dibnlib – sorry you missed the final day of Crufts! Maybe you did do too much earlier in the day! Take care.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Good morning, OG! That's an Indiana Bald Eagle in the photo. He made me laugh. I just thought someone should stand in for Lindy until she returns. Glad you're sleeping better. Sorry that your poor son is still suffering from his cold/infection. We're due for very warm weather this week. Yay! Hope you all get nice weather, too.
Alan: I loved your screen capture of the tiny eaglet.
Hello all. Beautiful morning today, frosty but very bright. Had a good walk and Mia had lots of fun. Why is it though that folk can't clean up after their dogs? I don't mind washing mud off her legs but having to clean what others have left behind from her claws is no joke.
I did watch the fly ball at Crufts on Saturday's programme but didn't see the final one last night.
Wendyb how much snow did you end up with?
Hello All, Dry this morning but no sunshine as yet. Lynette, We were also very happy with the win for England against Scotland in the rugby yesterday, but they will have to play better when they play Ireland in the next match. Thanks for all your nest captures.
Alan, Thanks for the lovely chick pictures. It is easy to forget the size of the chick against the size of the adult.
Annette, Sorry you are suffering. I am sure all your gardening is not helping but as I was told, when my son was very young, that pollen can travel 30 miles out to sea, there is little chance of escaping from it.
Diane, Thanks for all the advice and links. I had also read all the warnings for those who shouldn't take the tablets. I love that picture of the Indiana Bald Eagle.
OG, Sorry your son is no better. Certainly not the best time for you, when you are not feeling 100% either. I am sure you must be helping him by talking to him every day but you obviously must worry about him.
Trish, You do see most dog owners cleaning up after their pets but it is so annoying to have to clean your pet or your own shoes after some lazy and inconsiderate ******** think they don't have to bother. Where are all the dog wardens ?
